Author Topic: Sub 300 grams 700c rims tubless with hook recommendations?  (Read 2857 times)

Hello everybody
Any advise on sub 300 grams 700c rims tubless with hooks? Preferred IW 24mm  or 25 mm.
Lightbicycle AX25 seem to be discontinued, I wrote them an email but no response yet.
All other sub 300 grams rims I've found are XC without hooks, like Fiberin with 280 grams or Carbonbeam with 270 grams.
Thanks.

Lightbicycle answered me, they have a successor of the AR25 rim, calles AR25 plus.
https://www.lightbicycle.com/AR25-Disc-Plus-Carbon-Gravel-Bike-Rim-700c-24mm-Wide-25mm-Deep.html
marketed as allroad and gravel rim, but limited to 90km rider weight on flat grounds.
The come at 289 USD per piece.

Anyone knowing alternative options?

Thanks for the link, that's Carbonbeam. They to offer very competitive prices for what you get. I've already build a set of allroad wheels 40mm with their rims, but not an ultrallight set.

DFS carbon have these
SUXL 120KG
UXL 130KG
Moulded spoke holes rims not sure how much though

I was chatting via whats app with Angler about hubs and rims this week and got the latest catalog.

I am seeing a different weight rating from them 100kg (rider) is the UXL, and SUXL not carrying a rating based on just that term. I will ask for clarification to better understand this from a safety perspective.

Re: sub 300 grams. DFS has their u shape 35mm (24mm iw, 31mm ew at the hooks) at 305 for the UXL and 280 for the SUXL, the 40mm in SUXL comes out to 300g. Those would be my top candidates for a rim this weight

Reached out to DFS Carbon and Angler wrote back immediatley, he was very informative. They sell their super light Ghost II series rims for 249 USD at the moment. Looks like a better option than the Nextie AR 25 Plus to me, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

you also have these just released/announced by Nextie
https://www.nextie.com/carbon-road-bike-rim-supreme-alpha-40?sort=p.model&order=ASC&page=6&limit=mdgmrxmkts

Available in 40mm at 300g and 50mm at 335g

Nextie writes 130kg weight limit on every single rim which is hard to believe when Duke has very similar rims, same weight and specifications and they have like 90 or 100kg weight limit...

But 300g for 40mm is bonkers :D

Thank you for the link. Very interestinig rims. But I'm a bit surprised that Nextie seems to offer this rims with 20 holes only. This could mean that these rims will have laminated nipple holes. But compared to DSF Carbon, the latter has wider internal width (IW 25mm) and a much more competitive price.

A guy on WW forum pre-ordered a set with Nextie wheelset, carbon spokes and their own 226g hubs (for the pair) at 1345 EUR, that including a 10% pre-order discount

So 1500 EUR for a complete set shipped, approx as light it is technically possible to build.

I see DFS offer a 999 EUR hub pair at 199 gram, expensive and quite unclear how reliable and safe it is. Also way more expensive really. Their other hubs are very heavy in todays standard.
DFS is just a reseller, aren't they?

DFS has their RT220 hub, 20 spokes f + b, 220 grams total for 249 USD. That's a light set of hubs by todays standart IMHO, and pricing is in the range of Goldix R180 Ultra.

Oh that is really sweet, really really good!

Assuming they do not post everything on their website?

I cound't find RT220 hubs on their website, but Angler wrote me name, weight and price for these hubs on whatsapp.

RT220 with 20 spoke holes exists also, and weights a bit more, 245 grams.

R2 hubs weight 285 grams the pair.
