Chainrings vs noise
« on: July 04, 2026, 06:24:31 PM »
I have a couple chainrings that have vastly different noise levels and since it annoys me quite a bit, thought I share my experience.

I ride a 1 by GRX group set. Haven’t dropped a chain on either ring, even on bumpy single tracks.
The black anodizing rubbed off on all rings. Not really any difference there.

The original GRX chainring is fine. Minimal noise.

Passquest oval.
Looks good, nice machining.
More noise, but not by much.

I then switched to cranks with SRAM bolts.
ZRace round. Totally quiet.
Even more so than the GRX.

Wuzei round.
Noisy but tolerable.

VXM oval
Intolerable noisy.
It’s like if the chain drags over the derailleur cage.
I cannot ride like this.
