RF10 finish update! The custom 12K carbon fabric arrived at Light Cycling this week! 🔥

12K carbon weave to be laid at 45 degrees in gloss, with matching seatposts. Hopefully it turns out as planned! :D

The 12K finish was the reason for going with the RF10 over the Tan Tan x68.
I originally asked Tantan whether they could do the X68 in this particular 12K weave, but they said no.

When I asked Daniel, he initially said it wouldn't be a problem. However, I think he then realised they didn't have the material available and it was more difficult than planned , so it had to be sourced. It took around a week, but the fabric has now arrived. So I take my hat off to him sorting that out which I'm impressed with.

The weave has 8 × 8 mm squares, and I've specifically asked for it to be laid at 45 degrees to give it a diamond pattern rather than the usual square appearance. The frame, fork and both seatposts (I have ordered both set backs) will have the same 12K finish with a gloss clearcoat. Basically I am copy and Instagrammer Le Pedaler Quick Pro GR ONE that is finished like this.

For the logos the LIGHT CYCLING lettering on the downtube has a 1 mm outline rather than solid lettering, allowing the carbon weave to show throughabd this is including the head tube logo and the surger rf10 logo.

All the logos will be Pantone Cool Gray 7 C, including the LC head tube logo and the smaller SURGE RF10 lettering on the seat stay.

I have mentioned  to Daniel that his head tube logo, although it's meant to represent an L and a C, looks a bit like a G to me. Personally, I think a small break where the two letters meet would make it clearer. I don't think he's planning to change it, but hopefully it'll look better once it's on the frame.

I also changed my Tavelo Rise bar order down to a 110 mm from 120 mm after going round in circles for two days reading information online about how these bloody bars are sized!
Tavelo seem to measure their stem lengths differently for some reason, so the effective stem length ends up being around 10 mm longer compared with some other brands. From what I've seen, the measurement isn't taken from the centre of the steerer clamp bolt but slightly further forward. And I also found my old bike mechanics you tube video where he measured two Tarmac SL8 using a laser through the centre of the fork thru axles one bike with the rapid bar and one with the Tavelo Avro and the Tavelo comes up 10mm longer.
Now I'm sure some will say it's right and other will say it wrong makes no difference now the order has been changed.  And I may attempt myself to strip the Matt paint from the bars and finish them in RAW UD gloss not sure if I am brave enough to attempt it yet! Lol

Will also give a carbon Ryet saddle ago was £35 on Ali so worth a go!

Current estimates put the bike at 6.6kg. A 54cm frame is 850g estimated and the 12K finish is heavier I have been told buy 70-100g. I'm aware this Finnish would add weight so it definitely will be interesting to see where it ends up could end up being a 1kg frame but I have used 950g in the estimate and 1275g wheelset.

Patrick when are you expecting the seat post to arrive!

i've been looking at the available "SL9 clone" options.

To me the RF10 and the Spcycle R099 seem identical. Even the tech. drawings published are the same. Since Daniel doesn't produce himself, i assume he sources from Shenzhen Disai Industrial Co., Ltd? I am not an expert on chinese production facilities and the ties btw. the various companies, but am i wrong on this? what do you think?

Same mold, different lay-up perhaps?

Well the RF10 uses the FSA ACR system of spacers so provided this is ACR compatible it should work

Yes, it's exactly the same frame. The RF10 is an open-mould frameset.

I've actually spoken to Daniel at Light Cycling about this as I thought it was exclusive to them, and he was very open about it.

So I did ask why should anyone buy from him over anyone else.

The difference is more in the preparation, finishing and attention to detail rather than the actual frame itself.

Daniel explained that Light Cycling works closely with the factory and he has a very close relationship with them, and has also contributed to certain aspects of the product, including developing its own zero-offset seatpost.

He also explained that they carry out additional preparation before shipping. For example, they clean and re-cut the T47 bottom bracket threads using the correct tooling, use professional cleaning agents and pre-install the internal cable guides.

But if the 0 offset is exclusive to LC thats a bonus.
I will contact SPcycle myself and see what they say

According to Daniel, these are additional steps that other sellers offering the same frameset don't necessarily carry out.

So make of that what you will!

Quote from: Sander2177 on October 12, 2026, 08:10:57 AMIdeally, I'd like to see if they can produce an integrated solution so I can get the bars slammed as much as possible. The Surge geometry is pretty much identical to the SL8/SL9, only around 3mm lower. On my SL9 I already run a 10mm and 5mm spacer with a 3mm handlebar spacer (18mm) so I'm definitely not looking to end up with 20mm plus another 25mm of rise.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

I have to ask the obvious. If you're worried about stack height being too high, why in the heck are you even considering a riser bar? That makes no sense. The obvious solution seems to be just get a normal bar. Am I missing something here?

It's not a FSA ACR top cap or spacers. I thought it was too but it's slightly different. Just a heads up.

Frameset came in today. Initial inspection is really good but I couldn't get it built up. A couple quick weights below. Size 58, glossy clear coat over raw carbon.

Frame: 936g bare
Fork: 421g uncut
Seatpost: 174g

Seatpost looks identical to SL8, SL9, Crux. Could drop some weight their with a lightweight option but I don't care too much. Finish is impeccable. I've had a TanTan frame in the past and it was garbage in comparison. This looks comparable to high end western brands. Brake caliper mounts look clean and flat, BB threads are clean.

One note that got me was that the headset top cap and spacers are not FSA ACR. I bought an FSA to Roval transition spacer and it doesn't match up. I had to modify one of the LightCycling spacers to get it to work and the shape is completely different. It'll work but it doesn't look super clean which is a bummer.

Groupset I'm using will be the Sentyeh ECS Pro (WhaleRoad R7) 12-14 speed with the levers that look like SRAM E1. I have a Goldix 12s 10-28t, a SRAM 12s 10-33t, and a SRAM 13s 10-46t that I'll be switching back and forth as needed. Going with a 50t front for now on SRAM Red cranks because that's what I have laying around.

More pictures to come in the next few days.

Are these patches on the rear triangle normal ?

These are the joints where the front and rear triangles meet... this is normal😉
They are usually hidden beneath the paint, but they are there.
Unless the frame is made using monocoque construction, in which case the entire frame is crafted as a single piece.

Yo he comprado el LightCycling Surge RF10, aunque todavía no lo he recibido.

Left is the Light Cycling Spacer. Right is FSA ACR. Also noticed the LC spacer the hose holes aren't connected to the fork hole. So you can't remove/add spacers without messing with the hoses. I might cut the spacers to allow this. Not a great design for integrated systems.

Gracias por compartir to experiencia. Por cierto, ese acabado 12k es espectacular 👌
