Most "Carbon'd Out" MTB???

I was just thinking about all of the different carbon parts that are now available.. stems, bars, pedals, rims, forks, brake levers, brake pads, seats, etc., and got to wondering how close we are to a COMPLETELY carbon bike? I'm talking 100% carbon here, except hoses, tires and stuff like that. Although tires and hoses may even be in the future of carbon mtb:




So then I got thinking that maybe, possibly there already is a pretty much completely carbon bike, but even if not I thought it might be fun to start a thread to possibly see some bikes that are mostly carbon components.

So, if any of you know of some specific examples of some MTBs (or really any kind of bike, I suppose) that are closer than average to being total carbon, I'd love to see them! Thanks.

Cool thread idea.

Throw in some possible fundamental shifts in suspension design, and now a full carbon, full suspension becomes a possible reality. Throw some electronic components on there and now we're talking.

Electronic shifting is cool as heck as a tech junkie.No issues with those against it.
What on planet earth am I looking at with those shocks ?
Are there carbon hubs compatible with disc brakes ?

Yeah, when I was day dreaming this thread up.. I was wondering about the hubs. Too lazy to Google it (bad I know) but never heard of pure carbon hubs. I'm sure if they aren't already available, then they will be soon enough.

Not sure about that suspension fork. First I've seen of it. Looks like a tuning fork or something - Pretty wild, and I'd assume they could make a frame that had that for the rear suspension, as well. I bet travel is pretty limited. Not knocking it, just saying.

The forks are Lauf brand - lightest out there with suspension - great for XC racing....max 110kg user weight

Those are some interesting forks thats for sure. No way to dampen or lockout seems like not much versatility though.

I like the forks, then again I also like the seat post with similar design function. Idk, just like the idea of a small amount of responsive travel in an extremely light weight package. 2.18 pounds for a suspension fork is pretty sweet.

Wow, $1,000 for a set of hubs that are built with carbon, that is pricey.  I think I will wait for the Chinese carbon hubs that will cost $250.  Watched the video, my 6-pawl/27 tooth ratchet ring Bitex hubs sound similar.  However, the Kappi hubs claim 240 engagement points.

That Kappius carbon hub looks sweeeet!

380 grams total weight for front and rear and for only one thousand dollars they can be yours! Just for comparison the front hub is about 70 grams lighter than a front Hope Pro 2 Evo. That's pretty significant. But yeah.. that's pricey.

I find this thread pretty interesting.. I'm curious if we will see a bike that is completely carbon. Even the hoses could be carbon versions of the iLink Gator hoses like below. Eventually all chain rings could be carbon, too. Now that carbon hubs will start trickling down over the next few years.. I look forward to seeing a bike completely "carbon'd out"

Never really looked at the weight of my hubs:

Bitex 401F/R: 275g rear + 183g front = 458g

DT Swiss 240: 235g rear + 120g front = 355g

The Bitex are about 80g heavier.

The DT Swiss are 25g lighter and the DT Swiss have a star ratchet system, which IMHO is an excellent design.

Oh, so they DT Swiss hubs are actually lighter than those carbon ones. Interesting. I'm sure, with time and innovation, that will change though.

I have a set of dt swiss hubs on a Roval wheelset, and the star ratchet is amazing.. So easy to service also..

hmm I'm pretty surprised that the DT hubs weigh less than a set of carbon ones. Pretty impressive. I guess DT hubs seem to be the way to go for best bang for your buck performance. Or that seems to be the consensus at least.
