Re: Help me doublecheck my nooby first enduro build FM10
What a deal breaker.
But there are quite a few hubs that can be converted from QR to through axle, just by changing the end caps. So he could upgrade the fork without changing the wheel.
However a 110mm boost need some shims and is clunky.
Yeah I'm well aware of that, having just gone through the process of buying budget wheels.   The problem I see with that is if you are shimming to use a non-boost wheel in a boost frame or fork then you kind of defeat the purpose of boost. The whole point of boost is that it puts the spoke flanges wider which allows you to build a stronger wheel with less flex because the spokes are coming in at a wider angle. If the flange width isn't changing then you're not getting the benefit of the boost wheel.

They actually have a 100mm x 15mm thru axle version. So I could just get that.

EDIT: updated the build list

That would be a better option but you'll then have a boost rear non boost front unless you order the non-boost version of the FM10.  Nothing at all wrong with that, I almost did, but I decided that if I have to get new wheels anyway, as I do to take advantage of the 27.5 + size tyre profile, then I may as well go boost as well.

Not sure what country you are in but in Aus the 2nd hand market is flooded with Roval traverse 29 wheelsets for a reasonable price, if you're Stateside I would have thought you would pick up a set of them very cheap.  Have you looked at places like Pink bike? I wish the DT Swiss were as cheap here as they are in Europe.

Re: Suggestions to bring a build under $2k - ICAN P9 Frame
then try these 35mm internal

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32959294068.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.710c27327NP4s5&algo_pvid=56d0519c-24b1-4685-b354-be09cb3dda31&algo_expid=56d0519c-24b1-4685-b354-be09cb3dda31-0&btsid=0bb0622e16028720517206584e0840&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_

That looks a lot more promising but I'm not to sure about that seller.  I then found this one, from the same seller, same fork name USD 6, same description, black lowers instead of bronze and $240A more. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000033355098.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000060.2.41e63369tYqYbN&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreThisSeller&scm=1007.13339.169870.0&scm_id=1007.13339.169870.0&scm-url=1007.13339.169870.0&pvid=1991ebbd-59b9-45ab-b026-9891485c4d7b&_t=gps-id:pcDetailBottomMoreThisSeller,scm-url:1007.13339.169870.0,pvid:1991ebbd-59b9-45ab-b026-9891485c4d7b,tpp_buckets:668%230%23131923%2377_668%23808%233772%23408_668%23888%233325%232_668%232846%238107%2323_668%232717%237562%23500_668%231000022185%231000066059%230_668%233468%2315614%23576

At this point I'm thinking no rebound and why don't they do boost and will they take a + tyre so I check for a DNM website.  This is now looking far more promising but pricing is also now in the ball bark of 2nd hand branded stuff from Fox, RS and DVO. All bases covered here and with an accurate description, with a weight now pushing 3kg.  https://www.dnmshock.com/products.php?func=p_detail&p_id=10&pc_parent=7

Edit: Just noticed the one on the DNM website is USD-6A  not USD-6  Can't find a 6A on Aliexpress, nor anywhere else with google.

Re: TanTan FM10 29/27.5+
So I have ordered this frame, but it doesnt look like the rear shock rubbing issue has been resolved.  Can someone confirm if this has been resolved and what is the correct size shock?  Is it 185x55 Fox DPX2 Trunnion?

Sorry mate, I haven't been here much of late. I have just built up this bike and am using  a 2019 DPX2 185 55 without any issues. I'm running Duroc 50's with 27.5 x 2.8 Maxxis Rekon+ on it.  Plenty of room between shock and arm throughout entire compression range and plenty of space between rubber and back of seat tube at full compression.

I'll be doing a build report soon but I'll post it in the 27.5+ forum as that is what I am running the bike as.

Re: Pulled the Trigger on an FM10 from TanTan Nice one mate.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of mine as well. Even my boy and all of his mates were drooling over how good it looked and they are "brand snobs".

Just remember to strip it down and lube / loctite all of the fittings as required.

Re: Groupset Stock (or lack of!) YEs, two purchases now, no problem but for the usual slow Alie Express shipping when they use UBY tracking but I think that is an Aliexpress thing as it was never an issue before late last year but a lot of the stuff I have ordered recently has been shipped with that service.

Re: Bb386 cranksets
You can fit pretty much any crank in a BB386 bottom bracket shell. The "BB386" only refers to dimensions of the BB shell in your frame. It has nothing to do with the crank itself. So as carbonazza said, you can e.g. buy a DUB crankset and a DUB bottom bracket for a BB386 frame.

Or you can use a Shimano crankset, with this BB: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32899151818.html

Or you can use a Praxis crankset, with one of their BBs.

I had issues with that bb and "shimano" compatible cranksets. The thickness of the flanges that allow it to be tool tightened are too wide, about twice the thickness of pf versions. The result is that the crank spindle isn't long enough to allow you to engage enough of the thread for the loads that get transferred through it.  Replaced mine with a dub pf bb and crankset and everything fit prefectly.
