Re: Difference in quality between ~600$ and ~1200$ frames? Ended up ordering the Velobuild 186 and a set of 38's. Will post a review and thoughts on how it compares to my 2017 sworks tarmac disc. Hopefully there will be more parts available in the coming months.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame

I also have a question around cable routing, specifically on the HB011 bar, how are you guys doing this?
  • Are you using the exit holes that are to the left and right of the computer mount (Example A image)
  • Are you using the single hole that is near the steerer tube (Example B image)
  • Are you using a mix of both, such as gear cables exit the steerer tube holes, brake cables (I'm running cable discs) exiting the computer mount holes

I'm just collating all of the parts I need for the build and am trying to visual how I'm going to put it all together  :)

Also curious about how people are running their cables and how many are using shift cable housing? I am currently having issues using disc brakes and jagwire shift cable housing to all fit at a 90 degree bend. I ended up taking the smallest spacer and cutting the front part of the spacer so that my brake cables can be non integrated into the handlebar.

Another question for those fitting hydraulic brake hose and shift cable housing, how did you get you headset/fork to stay straight? All the cables in the headtube keep pushing my fork and handlebars to the left.

Re: SEKA Bikes? Out of contact? Thank you for all the replies, I just heard back from the main email. And they did say due to the lockdown in Shanghai there may be delays until May.

Have you tried a zero setback seatpost for your vbr177?

I haven't tried that yet but I'll see if I can find one. Thanks!

Re: New Carbon Spoke Wheels(Hyper/Elite Drive) vs Sapim Spoke Wheels?
Having also used both carbon-bladed spokes (Hyper 65s) and Sapim spokes (Farsports Ventoux and Scribe Wheels)...

I can say yes carbon spokes are lighter and marginally stiffer, but aren't as readily available if you need to replace a spoke. And like 1Sigma said most people don't ever push their frames/wheels to the limit to actually benefit from the marginal gains.

Thanks for the reply Pat! Watched your latest video and am definitely grateful for the hills in California haha.

Re: I Am Slowly Getting Fed Up (Crybaby Rant) +1 for StiffWeenies being an absolute legend! And Pat for sharing some quality info on youtube!  ;D

There’s a buyers risk when purchasing these products and I’m hoping that in the future we can see that risk reduced. It would be awesome to see some of these companies step up their customer support and I think having that assurance of a hassle free warranty would be a tipping point for a wave of new of customers. Perhaps with higher margins companies will be able to offer better customer support? For now I’m happy to take on that risk and be an early adopter of what could be a sizeable shift in the cycling industry.

I discovered Chinese frames a few years back when I switched from MTB to road. I got an incredible deal on a used sworks SL5 disc right before the spike in bike prices and the more I rode the more I had an itch to build my own bike. 5 Chinese frames later, I'd have to say this has been quite the adventure that I wouldn't recommend to most, however it’s been fun building and customizing bikes to my liking.

Re: Pulled the trigger on the Elite Wheel DRIVE wheelset Just received my drive 50s with Black decals and they gave me the updated hub as well. They look fantastic, excited to have them on the SEKA  build once that frame arrives.

Re: Pulled the trigger on the Elite Wheel DRIVE wheelset
Any of you 2 in US?  Just curious how long it took for them to arrive.  Elite sent me my UPS tracking number on 7/4 but hasn't been scanned in yet so I assume it's still on a boat somewhere.

Yep I'm in the US and it took about 3 weeks after getting the tracking. It went from "label created" to arriving in 2 days after it got scanned. Guessing they came via boat.

Re: Recommendations for a carbon saddle?
I just received a saddle from the MIXED store on AliX

Carbon with dense padding, 135g, really nice build quality and finish.

These mixed saddles look promising, gonna pick up the 7D version. Thanks Sigma!
