Title: Ace Sprint carbon wheels on Aliexpress
Post by: Jet the Panda on January 24, 2024, 07:18:41 PM
Does anyone have any experience with them? Their price point is on the more budget friendly side compared to elite / light bicycle
I've not seen or heard of them before today.

I have a pair of wheels and a disc rear ordered. They are very responsive!!  One of the best. Ended up doing some customizations with decals and mismatch rims. Haven't shipped yet but I'm looking forward to getting them. Seems like you can pretty much built them how you want and they'll accommodate.

I can keep this post updated if people want.

I ordered their carbon spoke x weave 19 IW wheels with rim brakes and star ratchet hubs. 60F 75R. I asked for custom logos (I've ordered rims and hubs from a number of suppliers on Ali and elsewhere.... And built them for my bikes, family, and friends).  I also ordered a Disc Rear wheel with the same rim width.

Total price was around $1450 for all three.  Custom logo placement added about $100.  Attached are renderings of the logos on the wheels.

I'm definitely curious on these.  If they check out good, I'd say it's been a good experience.  I had a ton of questions and they answered everything in a timely fashion. If the product is good, I'd endorse them. Still waiting to find out though.

Please do keep us updated! I'm very interested in this company and their wheels! The finishes look similar to what Lightbicycle are providing but the price point is even lower and being able to purchase from Aliexpress gives us a layer of protection.

Got a message from them yesterday. Decals and rear disc are done. Should have pics of the others later this week.

Best communication I've had from any seller. So far buying process has been superb.

Just got another update on the 60/75 combo. All done. Shipping today.

Was hoping for slightly darker grey logos since I'm not huge on big bling, but these will look spinning!

do you know how the hubs are? I asked them if they were Goldix but they said it was their own hubs

They do look really cool!

If you're happy with them, I'll keep them in mind for my next purchase!

I can't say for sure on all of their wheels, but these carbon spoke wheels have hubs made by chosen. Bearings S&S ceramic. Hub design is star ratchet.

I can confirms that once I get the wheels.

I looked at a lot of carbon spoke wheels and it seems as though this is a very commonly used hub on rim brake variants. As long as it's machined well, I don't see that it's hard to mess up. Especially if they are using the star ratchet design as is in DT Swiss.  DT Swiss is my preferred hub on bikes. They just work and are easy to service.

From what I could gather the bearings looked to be common 6802 and 6902 variants. If that's the case, then if issues arrive with bearings it's an easy swap.

Wheels came in today!  First impression is WOW!  Finish and build is fantastic. I really wasn't expecting the logos to be of high quality but they are maybe some of the best I've seen on wheels. They are not busy stick on decals.

Weight for 60/75 came in at 1320 gr.  That's in line with climbing wheels from a decade ago!

Disc is 963gr with valve stem.

Shipping was about 8 days.  Shipped via FedEx to the USA.

Pictures below.

I won't be able to report on ride for a while. It's winter here and roads are a mixed bag.

My only complaint would be that I was expecting the rear hub to be a star ratchet with ceramic bearings.  It's a 3 pawl hub with what look like standard steel bearings. This isn't the end of the world but different than what was communicated.

I've been using and riding a wheelset with the same parts (hub, aero carbon spokes and lightweight rims) as Ace Sprint carbon wheels. And trust me, the combination is marvelous and the wheelset itself is great. I believe Ace Sprint wheelset will give the same feels.

I'm surprised you're okay with the incorrect hubs. It's not a minor mix up but entirely different to what you communicated and expected to purchase

Looking at the bearings they do look to be ceramic. Says right on them.

The hub drive is a 36t ratchet with pawls... not a star ratchet. Reading through my communications, I only asked about a star ratchet specifically for the disc wheel. And that hub is exactly a described.

Given we were going back and forth between the disc rear and carbon spoke rear, I think I just made the assumption out was a star ratchet.

They were quick to respond to my clarifying question about it and apologetic for the confusion. I don't think there is anything misleading intentionally. The only thing that I am missing from my original thoughts is that the rear hub is not a star ratchet. It really isn't a big deal to me. I've never had a 3 pawl hub fail.  This will be on a tri bike and I'm not likely going to be standing and sprinting, so I'm not upset. My HED and Vision wheels use basically the exact same freehub drive.  I have 1000s of miles on them with zero issues.

Quick update on these. Had a chance to go for a short spin on these.  They're quick!  Definitely can feel the roughly 1 lb less weight than my prior set on getting them up to speed. There were some very small spoke adjustments I made to get the trueness perfect. These, and I'm sure most carbon spoke wheels, require a 5.5mm hex socket wrench from the rim side to adjust spoke nipples. Took me a bit to figure that out.  I like the design, but it does require retaping to adjust spokes.

I'll have to report back after some longer term use but initial rides were positive.

Any chance of a longer term update?

Any chance of a longer term update?

I've got about 300 miles on them.  Zero issues. Ended up getting a different bike with disc brakes and I've got another order in with them.

Not quite as quick on the second order in term of delivery due to some delays in spoke availability, but I like them enough that I didn't hesitate on a second set.

Hey, I am thinking about ordering a Ace Sprint full disc wheel aswell. Is your disc still fine? Which shipping did you choose? The seller recommended me the dpd shipping for 75 dollar. Thank you in advance!

I will keep you posted, when i ordered it! Current price is around 395 dollar incl. dpd shipping (hopefully custom declaration free to germany) for 28mm full disc, disc brake wheel incl. normal 36t ratchet.

Have since sold that wheel and bike but my wife and I both used it for the entire summer race season without any issue. $395 is a great price. I would suggest the upgraded shipping. It only takes about a week vs sometimes 3 or more weeks.

I've also had good experiences with gozone.

I got their Super light Disc and newer Tri spoke (they upgraded me to the newer one after I bought the older one, maybe they didn’t make it anymore or would have taken longer who knows). Ordered Tri Spoke during Choice Day and Disc during 11.11 and stacked those discounts with some coins to get them both for sub £600.

Fingers crossed they’re decent enough quality

Interested to see the Tri spoke.

The disc is good quality. It's exactly the same as the nine velo disc which is in the $1200 range. Just be aware that with the ultra light weight, it sacrifices a bit of lateral stiffness. So if you have super tight clearance on your rear stays, you might get a bit of brake or tire rub on hard efforts (standing up hill).  Personally it can be an issue on my Cervelo p3x.

I went with a different disc on the p3x which was from Gozone.  It's about 200gr leaving but stiffer.  I prefer this gozone disc overall. It gives a bit more clearance on the drive side so if you are running an OSPW RD you don't have as much a chance of rubbing against the disc. I personally prefer the Gozone disc wheel for that reason but it is more expensive.

I have 3 other sets of wheels from Ace sprint varying from 60mm to 80mm depths. All carbon spokes. They're great wheels. Well built with smooth hubs. No complaints at all. Shipping can take a little longer if you make customizations like decals or finishes, but Edwin communicated well.

Post a pick of trispoke if you received it.

Best pic I have of it at the moment. Will post pic of bike with it on when I get round to taking it. GP5000 S TR installed very easy on both Tri Spoke and Disc wheel.

Disc wheel seems pretty decent quality, no dodgy bits of carbon sticking out or rough edges. Not ridden it yet to test ride feel etc. Both wheels will be getting road tested this weekend.
Rather interestingly, Evolve Aero (formerly Revolver) have just released a new superlight disc wheel dubbed the Helikon (https://www.evolveaero.com/shop/disc-brake-wheels/helikon-disc-wheel/).
This looks identical to the Acesprint disc i received. My disc came out at 1017g, with a standard hub. Evolve disc; 950g+/- 30g with a DT Swiss hub, make of that what you will...

I also asked in the other thread about the frame/bike, but will ask here as well if you have widths for the trispoke (inner, outer, max)? :)

Also, is there a direction of the spokes? It looks like they're oriented the wrong way, but hard to tell for sure on the picture.

Didn’t take any measurements, was really bothered by dims. I’m running S TR’s in 28 mm and they have a nice profile w/ wheel.

Well it’s a disc brake wheel so can only be used in 1 direction so it will always be how you see it

Is the 60/75 set 26mm wide at the brake track? I'm looking for set of wheels for my Venge and I did have Ace Sprint wheels in my radar, but ended up passing on them.

I no longer have those wheels since I ordered disc brake wheels, but yes they were 26 wide at the track.

Disc brake versions you can get 26 or 28.

Thanks for pointing me towards this manufacturer.

As I am fairly new to components and bikes in general. What would be the best hubs when it comes to value? I see a lot of mention around DT 240, but weight wise the 36R Carbon is equally light

If I were to go most bang for the buck what would you advice me to buy for a disc wheel set from Ace Sprint as of now?

How deep of a wheel?

I'm a big fan of carbon spoked wheels and for just all around riding 50-60mm depth. 28+mm external width.

Go zone makes a nice wheel as well.  And Superteam is a great value.

I have experience with all three.  All have been good for me. All are somewhat similar.

Placed an order for a single 30mm front rim for $190 AUD shipped including tax. Incredibly cheap compared to all other options. A full wheelset is more cost effective but I didn't really want to splash out any more money on rim brake bikes.

Communication with the Acesprint is great. Whoever runs it has great English and is easy to communicate with.

The only downside is its not mentioned anywhere it will take 2 weeks to manufacture on top of the 2-3 weeks for shipping. This was only mentioned when asking for an update when the wheel hadn't shipped in about 10 days. I was hoping to have a spare wheel for an upcoming tri in case of strong winds.
I initially cancelled the order. With Easter coupons I ended up reordering the wheel saving about $30 from my first order.

I wish their aliexpress store had a more user friendly layout. It's a bit here and there trying to compare different combinations of wheels

Will update when the rim arrives

I'm not sure what they'll use for shipping service, but Edwin at acesprint  shipped mine via FedEx and it only took about 6 days to USA. Super quick actually. Might be worth asking if they can do the same for you?
Title: Re: Ace Sprint carbon wheels on Aliexpress

AceSprint only charged $8 shipping vs all other stores starting at $50. They did offer the option for EMS but that was $60 USD, after exchange its about $100 AUD, making a single rim cost over $300.
Might as well buy a cheapy wheelset
