Title: IIIPRO ROTORS
Post by: alex.tomazov on May 02, 2024, 11:37:17 AM
I bought these IIIPRO Bike Brake Disc rotors, the rotors do not brake as they should, I bedin them for two weeks, cleaned them, pumped the brakes, changed the pads (sram code rsc) and nothing helps, the rotors brake very poorly by their own, after these I installed TRP and Shimano rt66 rotors and they brake well

I have a brand new pair I haven't used yer.  Instead, I am using several other brands of  "floating" rotors with aluminum center and steel outer disc.

Strange. I'm no engineer but I wonder, given that steel is steel, why rotors would perform drastically differently. Maybe hardness / durability, heat dissipation, resistance to warping and what not, but I would have thought a steel rotor is a steel rotor, outside of "extreme" use (super long descent, heavy rider...).
I don't have enough experience with disc brakes myself to have formed a view from experience.
Given the price difference between my rotors and what Shimano charges though, there would have to be quite literally a magical difference in performance for me to try Shimano ones.

Edit: was price, not prince :p

Ah, The "prince difference" is what matters, his metal version of rotors obviously are not "prince worthy", and sold only to us commoners.

I'll chime in and say also avoid Zoom rotors

I got Avids from AliExpress for $10/pair instead, they are great.

I'm nearly an engineer and steel is definitely not just steel. The same steel alloy can have a factor of 4-5x difference in yield strength depending on how it is processed. A very famous example (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_ship#Problems) of variation in material properties is the ductile-brittle transition temperature. This transition temperature changes with the specific alloy of steel used. I'm not sure what properties make a good brake rotor but if you forced me to take a stab in the dark, I'd guess hardness is quite important. Again, this can have a very large spread across different steel alloys and even a pretty large spread within how those individual alloys are processed.

i've had mine for almost a year, and they're good.  used them with iiipro and zrace calipers.  they do need some time to break in, and then they'll bite.  big difference over rim brakes during winter moisture/water.  I even went down to 140mm, road bike.

I know multiple people here said to have ordered some but never posted a review to my knowledge. I've put them through 300km with 8500m of elevation and I'm very, very happy with them. They've replaced RT64s on my gravel bike and I never imagined rotors could make such a braking performance improvement. I will buy another pair for my road wheels with ultegra too.

I have a set installed about 2 weeks ago on my gravel bike. Unfortunately I have not used them at all as I have been putting big miles on my new road bike (XM Carbon) Glad to hear they work great!

I have a 180 on the front and a 160 on the rear of my full suspension bike.  They took a while to bed in, but work well now.
I have a 180 on the front of my Hardtail, and it has been on this bike for over a year and has seen a lot of heavy braking.   So far, it has worked well.

I have centerlock discs from them in 160/140 and I'm happy with the performance.

Where did you find this in a 180? I could only find 140/160. I would use these on my gravel bike if I could find a 180.

I have the same pair of centerlock 160mm rotors on two of my road bikes. They work great especially for the price. Though I never saw them in 180mm.

I have the same in 140mm coming in next week to replace my 105 group 140/160mm on road bike. Will post the results.

Mine are 6 bolt rather than Centerlock.  The title of the thread is IIIPro Rotors, No differentiation of centerlock or 6-bolt mounting. I commented on my IIIPro floating rotors that have worked well to date.

What pads are people liking with these? Just ordered a pair.

Swiss stop 34RS, SRAM, and MTX Red have all worked well for me.

I got 2 pairs of 160mm in blue which matches my bikes. They offer plenty of bite especially with my JuinTech ETF (4 pistons) road brakes due to plenty of braking material on the rotor.
Also, I switched the default Juintech brake pads for SwissStop 27- organic pads. They really stop well too.

Just spent 3 days in Mallorca with these 160mm rotors including descends down San Salvador monastry and Sa Colabra mountain. Both brake calipers are Juin-Tech ETFs with SwissStop 27 resin pads (Yellow).

The rotors did not warp or fade under extreme descending for both cases. Also there was no brake squeal probably due to proper alignment helping out. Braking feel was absolute and sure, firm and responsive. Though not a great descender, it gave me immense confidence to deal with the very long descends, especially from the top of Sa Colabra until the coast line.

These rotors held true and performed so well that I ordered 2 new ones for the next replacements.

I can kinda relate. Installed this https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/S69b7786428564bfa997bbf2c9f0a2941j.jpg (https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/S69b7786428564bfa997bbf2c9f0a2941j.jpg) centerlock rotor a few days ago and it just doesn't have a bite at all, only noise. When i install the old bucklos rotor back i can easily go over the bars if wanted. The rear 180 disc stops me better than the 203 front.

Does anyone know the actual weight for these rotors in 140mm and 160mm?
https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005010764777755.html (https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c4W3UAGH)
They look light, but AliExpress weights are usually... optimistic.

I have a pair in 160 mm, and while don't remember the exact weight i know they where close to the advertised one (a couple of grams above or bellow)

Mine were 98g and 114g respectively plus 10g each for the lockrings. Used with Shimano R8170 calipers and L05A resin pads on steep, technical, if fairly short road descents and they've been as good as gold.

Just swapped them out for Galfer Waves to trim a few grams and I'll be happy if the Galfers are nearly as good.

Thanks a lot!! How do you like them so far?

Their fine after 1000km. Haven't done long descents on them yet but they feel like any other decent rotor.

Slight update: Put the rotor on a belt sander to rough up the surface and now the ceramic pads grip into it like the old rotor.

These rotors are marked on the surface with note -  "Resin Pad only". So not sure if your problem could have been exerbated by using ceramic pads or a case of misalignment/breaking in.

Yeah. Maybe I should just try some resin pads.

Rough up the rotor surface with sand paper and check the pads for contamination.

Great! I used SwissStop Resin Pads (yellow) with great braking feel and stopping power in Mallorca in March.

I think you will find better results with quality pads. All the best.
