There are very fewchinese d2c manufacturers making rims like that. Farsports make some gravel rims that wide, nextie, lightbicycle. Though the profiles aren't the best aerodynamically, particularly nextie. Ideally you want the rim edge to be wider than the tyre and then the rim to ulge out a bit before tapeting off so the cross section of the tire and rim is as eliptical as possible.

Speed carbon has such rims (Peter from speed carbon on the forum)
Yuanan as well (OEM for Elite, also on the forum)
Farsports for sure
Basically you want rims that are at least 31-32-33-34mm wide.

Hi, thanks a lot for your fast replies

Are there any wider rims with more then 25mm internal as this seems to be the sweetspot for 28mm tires, i guess 28mm would be perfect internally.

What's your suggestion

Thanks mates

Ask them. Peter by email and Leon by WhatsApp. Their details are on the forum

28mm internal would be insane and not at all fit for 28c tyres. You don't really wan't a crazy wide internal anyway

Look into gravel wheels. I just got a set of Elitewheels that are 35x31. There are some MTB wheels that are even wider but they are not very aero (and often have a very high spoke count)

Hello there. This is Peter from Xiamen Carbon Speed. What depth rim do you prefer?

As well as Farsports Hyper road wheels, LightBicycle WR series

Personally the 25mm internal/32mm external rim that appeals to me the most is the Lightbicycle WR50. Has a profile that is a bit reminiscent of HED Vanquish or ENVE's SES wheels, more teardrop shaped than elliptical or blunt-edged.

Side note, personally I think the sweet spot for 28mm tires is at 21mm internal. I think most of the wheels that test the fastest, like DT Swiss, Roval, HED, run 21mm internal. I think the lead engineer for Roval made a comment in an interview suggesting that the trend for 25int/32ext wide rims is really driven by companies selling hookless rims that need more tire volume to work at a lower pressure.

I'm just curious, were those recent race blowouts with hookless wheels on 25mm internal width wheels? At least on my gravel bike running 25mm internal width on 38c tires, that tire is on so tight even if it were to break the bead, I don't see the tire coming off. It was already hard getting them on and I was able to bead the tire with just a regular floor pump. Hookless at least for gravel has been great for me.

I would consider hookless on my road bikes, but I tend to prefer 25c tires since I feel more agile road climbing at that width.

big difference between 28 and 38c, but ofc you're not gonna just get them off by hand, if that's enough that tyre was going anyway

Naw, I would go straight to 30c or even 32c tires if on a hookless 25mm internal. Though wide tires on road bikes aren't my thing unless I was doing more of an endurance style build.

There isn't really any drawback on a wide rear tyre. There's barely any aero penaly because it's at the back, has better comfort, puncture resistance, less rolling resistance
