Title: Loud Unaas wheels ratchet replacement
Post by: maertin27 on June 20, 2025, 02:16:33 AM
Hi Everyone,

I've recently bought the Unaas UNAAS Pro2 Wave Rim and they seem great for now, very light  and they spin smoothly but the one downside is that they are obnoxiously loud.
They seem to use some DT swiss type ratchets but with one spring pulling the ratchets together instead of 2 springs pushing them together like in the normal DT swiss hubs. This spring seems way stronger than it should be which I think is the reason that they are so loud.

Does anyone have any experience with replacing the ratchets in such kind hubs with the normal DT swiss ratchets? My main purpose is to silence them a bit because on a group ride I can now barely have a conversation when keeping my legs still.

You can add thicker grease, those should lower the noise substantially
The dog killer Oz has some videos showing the difference. Please turn on an add blocker before watching his videos.

I’ve found that packing the hubs with Shimano freehub grease can quiet down a ratchet hub to the likes of a 4-pawl freehub.

If the system is the same that elite wheels uses, the rstchets and 1 spring go in a red metal cilinder, it can be replaced with DT ratchets, you can buy ratchet LN kit.
