Title: Any ZIPP 303 XPLR clones out there?
Post by: c4ndyman on July 11, 2025, 07:38:59 PM
I’m looking for a carbon wheelset but I want them wide, like 30mm internal and a deep aero profile for gravel racing.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Heaps of options - CSC or Elite Wheels for a budget option with 30mm+ internal, Nextie or Light Bicycle for more premium options. XMCarbonSpeed good as well but only up to 28mm internal (still great for gravel).

Am I understanding this right that the $836 price is for a wheelset (two wheels)?

That is correct and usually cheaper on AliExpress if you wait for a sale,?15-20% off regularly

Yes, but they're not the wide internal wheels - those are only on their AliExpress store (and it's cheaper than those):

EASEDON makes gravel wheels with 30mm inner width. You can find them on Ali

Thank you for the link. Do you have any info on what hubs they are using?

Just their own in-house one that's a copy of the DT Swiss ratchet style that pretty much every Chinese wheel manufacturer is using now.

We have 4 wheelsets from Elite bought on AliX in use with no problems.

So I have the new Gravel wheels in the link with 32mm internal width on order at the moment, seems they are still ramping up prodcution so the time until shipment is longer than usual. Ordered them during the summer sales and they where around 480 US$ including shipping to Switzerland. They come with a 50T ratchet system vs. the 36T I have currently in use.
Will report once they arrrive.

What tires do you guys intend to ride? I've read some don't perform on rims that wide.

Wheels this wide will result in noticeable more sidewall cuts. I would steer away from the 303 XPLR and elite aero gravel wheels.

I am waiting for a set of rims from EASEDON - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009009144525.html

Went for hooked version, I believe main issue with Zipp's and flats is the shape of hook and way they are exposed with narrower tire, that can cut the sidewall.

I wonder how those wide rims look after few months riding them on rocks. Gotta be scratched af or am I tripping?

Not really, they are designed to be ridden not to look at anyway ;). My wheelset from 2017 has many scratches in paint, but that's all and even on road you get some rock strikes from group so what is the difference? I will use them with 45mm tires so no way the rim will be exposed.

I placed an order for the Elite 'XPLR' wheels on 24 June, which have finally shipped today. GBP 387.55 delivered (for this price was worth a 'punt') with DPD tax free shipping. Will be putting them on my Crux. Hopefully have them in next couple of weeks and be able to install/ride.

Anyone else who ordered them received theirs yet?

Easedon rims came, 64mm deep flyweight version, without any holes in rim bed came at 471 and 480g. It was relace from cracked rims so nothing fancy but a bit over 1500g with bitex straightpull hubs, pillar 1420 spokes and brass nipples. Tires are marked as 44, were 45mm on 25mm ID rim and now are 47mm with TPU tubes.

After first ride I am impressed, they will be more prone to crosswinds than my narrower 65mm set.

How are you guys getting those Elite Wheels with 32 ID for so cheap?
I see them for 680 euros with 80 euro shipping, which is still good price, but noway close to 400 pounds and such I see on forums lol.

The price you see is with tax, once you put in in basket it will be deducted, add some coupons for discound and only extra fee is sellers shipping method, which includes all taxes and import duties for europe.

^ this.

I picked up a set last week and they were shipped yesterday.
I intended to go with lightbikes WGs but these were too cheap to pass on.

Stick um in your basket and the price will appear minus the VAT etc

If I put them in the cart, I see 700 euro (in my local currency).
If I got to checkout (click checkout a couple times, just never click "Pay Now") and add the promo code (Choice day promo code) it's €505.

There might be more Aliexpress magic to be done, coins and shit or some super-codes. I don't know. But they can be had for a solid price for sure.
