Hello,
I am looking to replace/upgrade the cheapo square taper 1X crank-set on my gravel bike with a sensible budget choice.
Pretty much the only criteria for the cranks were that they have to have a 24mm steel axle for durability and BB availability both online and in shops.
The three options that I have narrowed down and their pros/cons are:
- Senicx PR3/GR3: (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008941660681.html)
Pros: lots of recommendations, probably the lightest option, direct mount chainrings are sexy
Cons: reports of installation issues regarding the axle length. (IDK if I can post links to other forums/reddit, but I have found 3 posts regarding the axle length maybe not being enough.)
- Prowheel DMA (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009155259629.html)
Pros:Theoretically perfect chainline (47.5 mm), known OEM manufacturer, direct mount chainrings are sexy
Cons: not many reviews on the product, branding is a bit much
- Shimano CUES FC-U6030-1 (https://bike.shimano.com/products/components/pdp.P-FC-U6030-1.html)
Pros: Very well known brand, bought form a closer shop, steel chainring (durability)
Cons: mystery weight (most likely not the lightest), spider mount does not look as clean
Two questions:
- Which do you think is the better choice, all of them will cost about the same (+/- 5 EUR), so it is just about the quality/features.
- Are there any other option I should consider?

Senicx Gr2 has done well on my gravel bike for several years. Trace Velo speaks highly of them as well.

I’ve had good experiences with Senicx crankset on 2 bikes.
