Title: Converting Gloss Black to Matte?

Is there an easy way to convert gloss black to matte?

Forgot to confirm I wanted a Matte seatpost and bars, and I recieved gloss. My bad I suppose

Can I use abrasives (sandpaper/scotchbrite) to convert it to matte?

Would probably just knock the shine off it.  I think even scotchbrite would look awful.

you can just spray a matte clear coat on top of the gloss

try p3000 sandpaper, maybe with water.. if that's not enough, you can use a matte clear coat.

I would also opt for this. The current clear coat must be sanded a bit ,especially the seat post should not get a wrong dimension by that. There are very good 2K spray cans, so that the new finish will get strong and can last.

"Sanding" it down with the melamine foam sponge.. will for sure leave visible traces.

you can't apply the matt clear directly on the gloss, sanding is necessary in any case

Spraymax and other genuine 2k-in-a-can variants are just as dangerous as "real 2k" so do read up and take appropriate precautions.

A sponge is an extremely fine abrasive and less hard than si-carbide of any grit. But - having just tried it out of curiosity - to my surprise it's not hard enough to touch the gloss on a Ritchey carbon post at all.  So I confess it was a useless suggestion!

I’ve had great results using 000 wire wool.
I had some very glossy integrated bars that were annoying in bright daylight so a few passes with 0000  gave a nice uniform matte finish.
