Title: Aero clip‑on extensions on integrated bars – options?
Post by: JonnyFlyburg on November 05, 2025, 04:10:52 AM
Hi all,

We all chase the aero gains, and integrated cockpits look great, but rider position is still the biggest factor. I’m looking for aero handlebars that can accept clip‑on extensions and have found two options so far:

- Elves Orome AeroEXT – arm‑rest clip‑on
- Scott Syncros Creston IC SL – TT/tri clip‑on

My questions

1. Is adding clip‑on extensions to an integrated cockpit a sensible approach, or is the danger of damaging it too high?
2. Is there any “universal” solution, or do you need a model‑specific clip‑on for each integrated bar shape?
3. What concrete alternatives have you used? e.g., specific brands, or a non‑integrated cockpit.

Thanks for the input!

Cant really answer question 1 and 2. But I have found 2 more alternatives:

- Canyon GEAR GROOVE Aero Extension for the integrated Cockpit that comes with the Canyon Aeroad
- SPCycle HB-068 Aero Cockpit: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005008918843226.html
- BALUGOE Handlebar: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005009153890903.html

I have also thought about using such a handlebar on my next bike, since I plan on participating more triathlons. But have no decision yet

Search AliExpress for "aero bar extensions" and look for the ones that have oval clamps. I cannot post the link that will direct you to the specific bars as it says the page cannot be found. Look for the clamp to be 4 piece that allows adjustment in 2 dimensions to grip the aero integrated bars.

Try this link:

I would be worried about compatibility. You would 100% want to have model specific clip on bars incorrect clamps/clamping force would kill most carbon bars. You could look at older trek madone models that let you add on speed concept style extensions, canyon groove (super expensive and not available in the US).

If money isn't a problem, you can look at DEDA Vinci Series. https://dedaelementi.com/it/serie/vinci

It's a aero solution with separeted stem and handlebars.. but the handlebars came with 2 pieces of plastic that you can remove (that will make the center part of the handlebar that is round, a little bit longer, and then mount tradicional aerobar with rounded clips.

I would be careful with "universal" solutions. Would they fit your bars and if so, are your bars designed to take that kind of stress? I have an old set of Syntace clip ons that are designed for round bars, and even with Al handlebars I found a set with specific language that the manufacturer allowed for clip-on aero bars to be installed. Could I have gotten away with any old handlebars? Maybe, maybe not.

I'm looking to build a bike for light touring and I consider aero bars a must. I'm a bit of a weight weenie, but the extra weight is 100% worth it. I've also been debating if I should just go for round handlebars so I can use my old Syntace clip ons or if I should get something like the SP-Cycle cockpit. Right now I'm leaning towards round bars since the bike I'm using would be set up with aero bars 90% of the time. If I only had one bike and wanted to switch back and forth, I would probably lean more towards the SP-Cycle solution.

I will definitely be following this thread, though. I'm interested to see if there's something out there that I've been missing.

I want to buy a LC18 frameset and add an aero bar for long distance rides. Is the SPCycle bar the only option or are there any new options?

I am testing the https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005007431572824.html Kocevlo for now. Mounting works so far, there is no specific torque setting, one has to find a good spot between firmness and risk of bar breaking. I am also waiting on Riser elements to get it a tid higher for now.

I have the SP-cycle HB-068. It looks like the canyon aero clip-on. It is ok but expensive.

Next time, I might try the Balugoe stem or handlebar.

The SP-Cycle bar is pretty stupid. It makes little sense to have a gravel-style bar with a lot of flare for TT or triathlon. The style of aggressive aerobar extensions doesn't make sense for long gravel rides or the like either. I have no idea what they are going for with this thing.

The SP cycles makes no sense as mentioned above. The Balugoe is heavy.
I'd be careful with those oval adapters on integrated cockpits not designed för haong stuff clamped on.
German Lamba Tuning make a carbon bar they claim is safe to clamp tt bars to.

Given the increasing demand I reckon more options will follow down the line. The R8RS is neat and makes it tempting to get the Avenger frameset.

Really can't wait for some decent options - there is a severe lack of nice, integrated bars with quick and easy bolt on, integrated extensions available.
Something like the Black inc bar but at a price that is perhaps less than that of a full frameset would be perfect! :-)

Thanks for mentioning Lambda; I've just read their site and aero blog stuff about the topic. Lambda's "TWINFORCE" frame is obvious well-known in this forum :), but they have their own carbon bar(s) instead of HBR17, which are clip-on-ready (some sizes) for about EUR 300 incl. shipping & tax. But then would have to switch out full stem/cockpit.

- Elves Orome AeroEXT – arm‑rest clip‑on

I know many people on this forum think of elves as a bit overpriced but I always wondered why this bar/aerobar combination isnt more popular

The more I look, the better the Black Inc AB03 bar stem with extensions are - its perfect (from my point of view).
The price however, is frankly disgusting.

It can't be a massive job to redesign a fairly aero integrated cockpit, strengthen as needed and add a few holes for risers - there's plenty of 3rd party options that could be used for riser plates/armrests/bars, so the supplier doesn't even need to make any other bits.

There's a definite rise in the amount of ultra endurance events / riders these days, so im keeping my fingers crossed somebody produces something decent soon as aero extensions are a huge help on solo rides over 5-6 hours for me.

I tried clip-on aero bars on a flat integrated handlebar, and honestly, I didn't like them at all. If I used any kind of protective material to avoid damaging the handlebar, there was always some play. If I didn't use any protection, the clamps left marks on the handlebar. Even without any protection, there was still a bit of movement—they never felt 100% secure.

Now I've installed the Balugoe stem with the aero extensions mounted on top, in the center, and it's a completely different story. I've been able to fine-tune the angle much better since it comes with two different angle options, and I can also adjust the height. Now I can stay in the aero position over speed bumps, through corners, and while putting down maximum power with complete confidence because everything is completely solid and secure.

canyon just released their new triathlon bike, and the new cockpit design is the bee's knees, but costs 1k. There are people already looking at whether they can make that fit on other bikes.

Maybe simpler, Falco has serious options. At least 1 road cockpit w riser bars. I assume you can then customize that riser bar.

What is the maximum height ? If you remove the aerobar, is there a plastic cover available above the stem ?

Didn't see any weight figures? And no 36 cm bar. My guess is it is as heavy as the Balugoe so basically as heavy or heavier than a lightweight alloy bar.
Apparently some csrbon Pro bars as well as Bontrager are OK to use with clip on aero bars.

But the point would be really to have a nice integrated bar with tt bar modules.

I came to this site specifically to research this stem - looks like what I want for my TT bike then I saw those awful pictures of probably the same guy on Ali!

So there would be a "mark" left of failure, I've screenshotted the review - otherwise once the seller makes a new listing, the proof will be lost to time. (I blurred out the actual person though out of respect to him as the injuries do not look nice - skin torn off  from cheek and nose)

looks like the mounting interface on the stem is carbon. That's insane, should be metal, there's enormous shear force there when you're using the extensions and hit a pothole for example, which is why alu round bars with clip on bars always worked because the stuff would just rotate on impact (just like your bars turn around the steerer when you crash). The energy has to go somewhere.
And so, it looks like yet another beta product that's just released into the wild expecting people to beta test it.
For reference, most of the chinese frames we're buying are exactly that, btw. The frames we get excited about on this forum do not go through iterations with riders testing them. We're the testers.
The hubs for carbon spokes with no retention for the spokes is probably one of the stupidest examples. Although, to be fair to the infinite stupidity of American engineers from SRAM / Zipp & Enve, hookless for road wheels is just a level of stupidity that's hard to comprehend.
