Title: Which Chinese frame is the Storm Makai?
Post by: CycOps on January 12, 2026, 04:23:57 AM
Hello everybody,
in another thread sb posted a link to NL trade mark STORM Cycles.
They have a beach race / gravel racing bike called the STORM MAKAI.
It has tire clearance up to 60mm. Nice looking bike (although I always prefere 2x on gavel an CX bikes).
From the looks of the fork hight, it is not a 29" Hardtail.
IMHO it seems very unlikely such a small company was able to develope their own frame moulds.

Does anyone knows this frame?

It looks like a small modification from the Airwolf YFM026.   Geometry-wise it's very close the Airwolf frame.  But Storm cycle made a rounded shape seattube. So not exactly the same mold.

Private mold.
Can't be bought. I have asked.

Geo for the Storm Makai is available on the site https://stormsports.nl/products/storm-makai-beachbike-gravelbike

Compared to the Airwolf:

- It isn't boost, AFAIK
- Takes a 48T chainring
- The seat angle is steeper but the head angle is slacker, which is not possible to achieve with a shorter fork (shorter fork increases both HTA and STA)
- If you put a 395 A2C fork on a hardtail frame, the geo goes absolutely crazy, like +50 reach and a 75 degree head angle.

The Storm Makai is not an open mold frame, unfortunately.

Thanks for your answers.
I do not knwo how popular Storm is in NL and how many bikes the sell, but I'm pretty impressed they developed their own frame and molds!
And I'm pretty impressed by the frame, the only gravel like frame with 60mm tire clearance that I know.

Pressfit BB... Not too good for long term.

They also won't send bikes to many countries..
I believe only neighbors.
And that is shame
