Hi all, does someone has build or is running a wheel set with Goldix R180 ultra hubs? They come at about 218 grams a pair with HG freehub body and CL disc mount. I know they're limited to 75kg total weight but that's good for me. Are there any flaws?

I built up a pair of climbing wheels with them and the Lightbicycle AR25+ rims and some skinny lightweight carbon spokes. I’ve only have ridden about 200 miles on them so far, so early days. I’m pushing the weight limit on these at 77 KG plus the weight of my bike at 5.8 KG. Despite that they have worked well. I’ve done some high speed descents without developing wobbles of vibrations. The thin carbon spokes handle the cross winds much better aw well.

The 75kg is somehow new.. when I bought them this was definitely not in the spec.
Unfortunately I can't tell you about their reliability...i didn't build them until now.
I am far below 75kg but that tells that this hubs are less strong as Goldix engineers thought they would be.

I used spokes from AliExpress Carbon Spoke Hub store, their thinnest which weigh 1.8 grams. The complete wheel set came in at 805 grams

Roughly one year ago, if I remember correctly. Maybe they had issues with hub damages for heavy riders. I wouldn't be too surprised. I have seen this also for some rims. In the beginning no limit and then a limit magically appeared.
I didn't build a wheelset so far with these hubs. Shame on me. I had other hubs in the queue and just buying carbon rims for fun of building is a bit too pricey. :o

I'd be very wary of a hub claiming 75kg max, even if I was 20kg below that. That's not normal. Avoid.

So for rims this is also sometimes set, e.g. 90kg

That's rubbish.
What does the limit tell? It tells that the 100kg rider shall not buy the lightest stuff and expect it to work perfectly fine. Weirdly, that's what they do so often. "I must buy the lightest stuff,because I am so heavy already". I don't get that logic. These riders must buy the stuff that can survive their power output , which probably is much higher than for a flyweight rider.
Why should a 50kg rider need to have material that was designed for 120kg?

What does the limit tell? It tells that the 100kg rider shall not buy the lightest stuff and expect it to work perfectly fine. Weirdly, that's what they do so often. "I must buy the lightest stuff,because I am so heavy already". I don't get that logic. These riders must buy the stuff that can survive their power output , which probably is much higher than for a flyweight rider.

If just based on failure reports, it can be QA problems (or the next possibility) and you won't know if you're lucky enough to hit a bad batch.
Weight limit will reduce the chance, but you're still unsafe even under the limit.
And in that case there should be a recall, but everyone knows there will be no such thing for some random Chinese components that are only mostly targeted for domestic market.
If it's proper stress analysis, then it should be there from the beginning. Adding a limit later means there is very thin design margin.
In that case a weight limit will definitely help, and a lighter rider has nothing to worry.

Adam you seem to be much smarter than bike companies...
How would you do it?
Rims are limited by weight , no matter how strong the rider is.. no matter how the riding style is in detail.. also in road biking you can be a smooth rider or a pothole collector..
Complete bikes are limited by just pure weight value. Although it gets even more complicated then. The allowed spacer stack above the headset is just limited by height... no word about the weight on the handlebars nor the stem length, which would create the real torques on the steering area...
Light titanium pedals are limited just by.. guess? Weight. There's no such thing like "maximum allowed torque of xxx Nm"
.... what you demand to be served from Goldix is something no bike company does.
So.. how would you overcome this ? Creating a personal load collective for each and every cyclist? How would you do that? Based on what?

So you would deem the R180 ultra reliable hubs?
If you search the internet, there are a lot of allegedly cons to be found: a lack of stiffness of the hub body, very small bearings with a short life span, and the risk of ratchet teeth shearing off.

Since I build my own wheels, I like to and can take risks... Bearings in modern hubs are easy to replace, so I don't really care about lifespan of those. Ratchets can be replaced for cheap these days and since I rarely go over 800W peak, lack of stiffness is of no concern to me :)

Sad to report failure of my Goldix 180 ultra rear hub. The racket teeth failed, unfortunately while doing the Triple Bypass. I’m 72 kg and my bike is 5.8 kg. I’m 67 and not exactly a watt monster. For example my 1 hour power PR was set that day at 181. I’ve reached out to the Goldix official store however I haven’t heard back (it was a Saturday night so not surprising) I hope they can send me some new rackets preferably an updated design that is more robust

I contacted the Goldix store about my R180 Ultra ratchet failure and am pleased to report they are going to send me a new hub. Curious to see if the hub has evolved since I bought it late August 2025

Good to hear Goldix has a good customer service.
If you seach for information about the Goldix R180 ultra hub, the AI tells you that it is prone to rachted failure. This was why I stared this thread.
With my sub 1000 grams wheel set build on hold ATM, I would tend to buy the Goldix R180 SL which are just slightly more heavy, but seem to be much more reliable with a different rachtet system and bigger bearings.
