Title: Modern gravel bike frames without in-frame storage
Post by: Alpaka on October 26, 2026, 12:55:17 AM
Are there any gravel bikes with the latest geometry and tire clearance WITHOUT frame storage available? To me it looks like every bike now has it and to be honest it also feels like I constantly read something about rattling, breaking or falling off.

I personally do not have a problem with carrying my spares either on me, in a saddle bag or frame bag. Also, I see lots of advantages for not having frame storage: weight and frame stiffness, nothing extra with a chance of rattling or breaking, no water ingress,... Especially mid to long term I would be afraid of not being able to source spares.

Are there frames without storage still available? I really don't want to have the Crux 5 as only option.

I am not sure about that but I think that the new gravel from Light Carbon (072) can be ordered without the storage box.

They offer the choice w / wo for their LCR018.

The lightcarbon is a bit too short in reach, would need a 120/130 stem.

The velobuild aero gravel frame has no downtube storage, but i would like wider tire clearance.

If you shave the side nubs on 2.2 dubs you can get it in the back with about 2mm of clearance on the chainstays, just pray for no mud lol. Running them on my elite aero+ (32mm internal)

Another squirrel to chase.  Has anyone measured the weight of an "equivalent volume" seat tool-bag, and compared this to the added frame weight that an "in frame" storage area, and cover adds to the frame?

Knowing this could justify one approach versus the other.

Based on frame weights I've seen with "in-frame" storage, this is adding 100 to 200 grams to a frame's weight.

They're often using carbon saddle with carbon rails on a carbon seatpost. Might be nice to avoid abrasion from typical 3-strap saddle bags.

Sp cycles G029 ?

Same geo as the G028 but no internal storage nor rack mounting screws.
