Re: japjoe7 Carbonda FM1001 build thread
FSA race, Sram X01 126 link chain, Sram Dub BOOST BB. The BB feels super cheap. I think I’m going to swap it out for a Race Face Cinch BB.

I'd second SRAM BBs looking / feeling cheap... and lasting about 9 months. I've started using Z-Race off Ali just because they're cheaper. Will see if they last longer.

Love the build and the updates!

Re: TanTan - Seraph FM121 XC 120mm Full Suspension 2024 model Interesting (i.e. good!) that they are doing tests and sharing the videos before they list it / put it on pre-sale... unlike some other frames recently mentioned on this forum ;p

Re: Spcycle 2023 New Travel 120mm Super Light 29er full suspension frame I pre-ordered this frame but ended up cancelling due to delays. I would recommend anyone considering it check stock before ordering.

Re: Spcycle 2023 New Travel 120mm Super Light 29er full suspension frame
What size did you order? They told me L is coming by October but M is available, it’s also on Ali

I pre-ordered L. Was originally supposed to be ready July. Repeated delays followed by an 'expected' Sept manufacture date, which was missed so I'd be cautious about the October date too. Like I said, I would recommend ensuring they have stock before ordering.

In the end, I got frustrated with the repeated delays so cancelled. There are plenty of other options at the moment! (the 'usual suspects' plus Workswell, Miracle, Winowsports, Yishun, and even the new Lexon Flyer).

Re: mtb alloy budget wheels? So many options to consider but the Shimano hub / WTB rim deals on Bike 24 are pretty good, e.g. https://www.bike24.com/p2415009.html

I bought something similar when building my son's bike. It worked out cheaper that anything I could find locally even with shipping and duty added. I would trust the hubs on these more than some of the Chiner options.

Miracle / MIRA FS822 My Miracle FS822 arrived this week. I'm excited - it has taken me 6 months to choose, order, cancel, re-choose and re-order the frame for this next build! Interested to know if anyone is using or considering this frame - there's very little about them on the forum here.

It is size L of this frame painted gloss black: http://mira-factory.com/Product/detail/id/43.html.

Frame was chosen because Miracle have been around for a long time, good geometry, good price, good communication. It's also nice to try something a little different. I think this new breed of 120mm cross country frames is one of the most interesting MTB developments at the moment, and I can't wait to try it out.

This is my third Chinese frame build. Others are Airwolf YFM026 hardtail (2.5 years old, no problems); and a Carbonda 1001 (my son's. 18 months old. Gets hammered. Parts frequently break but no problems with frame).

There are a few reasons for this build:
1. A reward to myself for hitting 3.5w/kg when training for this season (although racing didn't happen because of life!).
2. To take over from my old Kona Hei Hei race bike that I really miss!
3. Something that I can use on less extreme trails, but that can handle them when needed. This should be great for marathon races in BC, Canada and for all day rides up in the alpine!
4. To potentially take over from the Airwolf, which I will either sell or convert to singlespeed and fully rigid.
5. I love selecting and building these bikes.

I'm not quite ready to build the FS822 yet - it arrived quicker than expected! This week I have unpacked it, designed decals and ordered wrap.

Build will use:
- Fox 34 Performance Elite 120. Removed from Airwolf and fully serviced with new decals from Slik
- Fox Float SL
- Dartmoor Tomcat rims. DT240 front hub and Shimano XTR rear with Sapim Laser spokes. Not yet built
- Bontrager Raceshop Limited carbon bar/stem combo, TransX 150mm dropper
- Magura MT5s
- Drivetrain from the Airwolf: Deore 12sp with XT shifter and X0 carbon crank / chinese power meter.

Impressions so far:
- Seller was Sally. She has been excellent at answering my detailed and sometimes stupid questions and always responded quickly on Whatsapp. Recommended.
- Frame was in stock. Paint took just over a week. Frame was shipped immediately by UPS and arrived in Canada in 5 days. Frame very well packed.
- I have not checked frame bearings etc yet but first impressions are that this is my best frame yet. Very clean inside the frame. Paint is excellent (1 small blemish that has been touched up on ICSG mount). Seatpost fitted very smoothly.

I have high hopes for this frame from on experience so far. I'll update the thread as I progress and if / when I run into any problems.

Poor pics taken so far are attached!

Re: japjoe7 Carbonda FM1001 build thread
First time lacing a wheel. Man, this is a pita! You really need to be perfect with the amount of turns you make all around. Gunna take the first one apart and do over, tension is all over the place. I gotta say though it’s really nice having the Park Tools to do it.

I would HIGHLY recommend this book on wheel building. For the tiny investment it is worth it: https://www.wheelpro.co.uk/wheelbuilding/book.php

I printed the lacing / build procedure chapter years ago and use it was a step-by-step guide so I get everything right whenever I build a wheel. I have built dozens of wheels, and still find this really helpful. Last used a week ago when building new wheels for my Miracle FS822 build (240 front / XTR rear on Dartmoor Tomcat with Sapim Lasers and alloy nipples) - and I'm very happy with my work!

Re: Miracle / MIRA FS822 Mini update. I picked up the final part (dropper) last night. I was hoping to use the dropper from my Airwolf hardtail but it is stuck - my first time as a victim of alloy post corroding in a carbon frame!

Order of little bits (BB; centerlock / 6 bolt adapters) from ZTTO arrived in less than a week.

Decals and wrap added to frame and cables/ hoses are routed.

Shock is fitted. The hardware was a bit of work. The shock reducers are listed as 8*22mm but the front one did not fit - I filed it down to ~21.7mm and it's in. The BB is fitted - no issues at all with the threads. As I get to know the frame, I am impressed with the quality.

I'm aiming to build the bike this week, and hope to have a 'shakedown' and first proper pics and report this weekend. I'm excited to finally ride it and do the 'big reveal'!

Re: Welcome to Chinertown - Introduce Yourself!
Hello!
I joined after lurking for a few days reading about all the different companies making open mold frames.

Im interested in something fairly specific.  Currently have a Trek Top Fuel 7 (aluminum) and its fairly heavy (by my standards).  I started riding in my youth around 30 years ago, and by the late 90s was really into XC racing on a hardtail that weighed around 21 lbs.  I pretty much stopped riding for 20 years and picked up again in 2022 and wasnt in very good shape.  I got the Trek and got back to work training and getting faster.  It of course feels pretty heavy but ive put carbon rims on it and dropped some weight off it in a few places.  As I train for races I want to reward myself for the work im doing and so im looking for a frame with similar geometry - 120mm travel but with the right shock size to get a remote lockout on it (the Trek uses 185x50 shock which isnt available from fox or RS with a lockout).  Ive compared all the major brands, I do like transition spur and fezzari signal peak, with the fezzari frame being the cheaper option.  Then I started looking at open mold frames.

Heres what im looking for:
120mm travel (might consider 110-115) because outside of racing i do ride some good trails
shock size that allows for remote lockout (cable routing for remote lockout a plus)
BSA bottom bracket (preferred over press fit - Ive never had a pressfit but it sounds like a nightmare on cheap frames with creaking etc.)
66-67 deg head angle - again outside of racing I do some aggressive trail riding

Bonus points for being made of better materials (blend of T800 and T1000 better than T700?)
Bonus points for having ISCG-05 mounts (although not a dealbreaker because I dont currently use them)
160mm disc size is fine

Here is a list of some that seem to meet my needs:
Miracle FS822 - seems new, Head angle a little steep but seems to be due to short fork length - my current favorite no idea of price or color options yet
Lexon Flyer (ebay) seems like the same as the miracle (they use a more realistic fork length and get 66.4 head angle) but ebay only has 2 color schemes and I dont want the decals.
SP cycle SPM861 - not sure about the cable routing in the headset or if it has routing for the remote lockout (doesnt look like it)
Workswell WCB-M-364 - not much info on it - looks like you can spec a BSA bb but its also a vertical shock 185x55
BXT-MTB-147 (ebay) - looks nice except 69 deg head angle - I guess I could use an offset headset and slacken it a little but thats more work.
Carbonda FM1001 - more travel than I need unless I use 185x50 which put me back to no remote lockout, I suppose its possible to go longer travel with a lockout (185x55)

Am I missing any companies?  Winowsports and DIYcarbonbikes are pressfit BB.  Airwolf YFM059 doesnt have enough travel for my taste.

Congratulations on getting back into riding. It's the best way to keep physically and mentally fit!

You are looking for exactly the same things as me. I went for a Miracle FS822 and am building it at the moment. There's a thread on the 29er page. It ticks all of your boxes except shock stroke (which you may be able to change, depening on your shock. Fox DPS easy. Rockshox not so much). The short fork on the fs822 geo chart is an error - I think it says 505 axle-to-crown but should say 530. Keep an eye on my thread and learn from whatever I bump into!

Re: Miracle / MIRA FS822 Took a break today to put last parts on. All done!

Now to set everything up and do a shakedown ride. Then call some friends and plan a big day out!

What do you all think? Is anyone else using this frame?
