Re: Trusted 150mm 29er suggestions The most modern candidates seem to have some concessions compared to mainstream-branded frames. Do these issues give anyone else reservations?

FM1002 Quirks.
  • The bottom bracket drop is 20mm if I'm reading the geo chart correctlty. This is pretty high for a 29er. Maybe appropriate for a mullet?
  • FM1002 kinematics are not progressive. Leverage curve is pretty flat (<10% progression) with a regressive section at bottom out. It seems like most mainstream brands have moved to a smoother, more progressive leverage curve.

AM831 Quirks.
Another recent frame that seemed promising, but has been plagued by design problems.
  • The fork hit the frame in some sizes, so a spacer was needed under the fork.
  • The first generation rear triangle was badly designed. If flexed badly, and bearing retention was an issue.
  • A new rear triangle was released for the AM831 that may have solved problems with the v1 design, but more feedback from actual owners is needed to verify

I, too, would consider an aluminum frame, but it seems modern geometry aluminum frames just aren't lucrative enough to offer to the public. Carbon frames are the default mountain bike frames available. I've also seen a video about a bad injury sustained when a Chinese frame snapped under a rider. I guess the reputation of a frame matters.

Re: Trusted 150mm 29er suggestions The ican p9 frame was a go-to reliable 150mm frame and many stateside "brands" slapped their name on it and sold it, but the geometry has become dated. The fm1002 is slacker and has a steeper seat tube, and it doesn't have a ridiculously long seat tube that limits dropper length like the p9. Check the FM1001/1002 threads, there have been very little issues with the frames other than bad cable grommets and low quality factory headset and bottom brackets. Its a simple frame design so you dont get the benefits of vpp or other fancy suspension designs but you also dont have to worry about a lack of stiffness, your rear triangle breaking, and a shady seller trying to sell you parts to fix your frame that they knew was poorly designed.

Re: FS-AM831 Derailleur hanger Hello!
These for Cube and Radon seem the same, although I can't be 100% sure if they perfectly fit, I'm just guided by the photos, I haven't checked:

                            https://www.bike-discount.de/en/cube-derailleur-hanger-2090-axh-short

                            https://www.bike-discount.de/en/radon-derailleur-hanger-10240-axh-short

In these Cube and Radon hangers, the piece with the thread for the thru-axle has a finer thread pitch (1mm instead of 1.5mm), so you would have to install the old one, or else you would have to install an X-12 thru-axle (which has 1mm thread pitch) with a flat seat (not tapered) at the other end of the axle, so that it rests correctly on the frame.

Beware!
There are these other that seems the same, but they are not:

                            https://www.bike-discount.de/en/cube-mtb/rr-x12-standard-derailleur-hanger

                            https://www.bike-discount.de/en/radon-derailleur-hanger-8651

This one is a little longer (it says "standard" instead of "short" version) and the derailleur may be too far away and may not work well, especially with 12-speed transmissions, for which the short version is indicated.

Re: cybrsrce AM831 build
how's your bike? do you already have the flex issue or have you fixed it with a new rear triangle / jjj bots?

I gave JJJ's bolts about 10 rides, super smooth suspension action but I didn't notice any additional lateral stiffness with a better connection.  The frame has also developed a cracking and popping noise since I changed bolts but that is probably coincidence.

Finally finished painting the new rear triangle since I ordered the wrong color.  I was all prepared to put on new brakes at the same time but I found out that Magura doesn't ship banjo bolts (line screws) with "spare part" calipers.  At least one more ride with the XTs but the new triangle went on this morning.

Re: Trusted 150mm 29er suggestions
And.... it's built! Just chain to buy and pedals to fit. My only tip from the build is: do the internal cable routing while you have the back end off to check bearings. It's much easier to feed rear brake hose and derailleur cable through that way.

Is that a red or orange crank boot?  Do you not love this child enough to match the grips and seat post clamp? :)

Re: cybrsrce AM831 build
did you get a new frame or just the rear triangle? what came with the rear triangle?

I did this also, had the old rear triangle with JJJ bolts and ordered the new triangle. It was just the rear triangle with all the hardware required for installation. Also got an extra derailleur hanger out of it.

Re: LCFS 958 build help
Not sure if I have shown my new LCFS958. Sold the old one, size L and built a new in size XL. (im 183 cm) The goal was to get even more reach. I loved my old bike and the new one is also great.

Hey bro which headset did u use?
