Ok — the X68 is 99% done and officially rideable now! Final weight: 6.49 kg I’ve got a few seat clamp mods still on the way, and I’ll be swapping the chainrings for the XMCarbon ones, but otherwise — it’s done! The frame had a few minor issues, nothing major. The last thing I had to do was sand the underside of the transition spacer at the back. When tightening the headset, it started rubbing slightly on the frame. The frame curves ever so slightly in that area just beneath the transition cap, whereas the SL8 flattens out at that point. Bikes still going well  .Out last night for 55km rolling ride, there is not much more to say to be honest rides really really well, especially on the rough UK roads!  so its an ideal testing ground.After rides I check my frames over due to the rough British Roads as I have had a cracked seat stay on a Felt bike and the reported fork failure on this thread. Anyone who wants some ride stats
Saddle modification holding up as well no movement, but I generally do sanity torques checks every so often on my bikes. So the set up is running smooth no annoying noises from anywhere currently. June 10, 2025, 04:16:42 AM |

Ironically, I think the effect of this thread has only been to increase interest in counterfeit frames. I’d actually disagree — the interest in counterfeit frames has always been there, it’s just that people are now more openly talking about it. I understand it’s a sensitive and divisive topic. Some will agree, others won’t, and yes — it’s technically illegal. I’m not denying that. Is it in the true spirit of the forum? Maybe not entirely. But the reality is that the demand is huge, whether we like it or not. And with demand comes discussion. That’s the value of threads like this — they spark conversation, debate, and hopefully, awareness. I’m not here to promote counterfeits, but if people are going to explore that route anyway, I’d rather they be informed and aware of the risks — safety being a big one. It’s a bit of a catch-22. I had a free Monday to ride, so I took the R088 out for an afternoon 50km ride and 600m of climbing. I think in every aspect this bike is just dialed-in perfectly. The only issue I had today was some high winds, so I did feel it on the hills even with semi-shallow 45mm depth wheels. If there was one nitpick, I can't attack downhill switchback corners as aggressively. It could have something to do with the SL8 style geometry and not the bike. My more upright bike frames seem better suited for that style of aggressive cornering. In overall nimbleness, acceleration and stability it's pretty good. Even at 70km plus descents, the bike just wants to go faster! Adequate braking becomes the more important factor!I could be wrong, but I see that the main triangle is practically "filled" with a bag and water bottles, and in my opinion this affects the sensitivity to the wind....they practically create a "sail effect". Update Thanks so much to everyone who’s contributed so far — I’ve already booked my flight to the Cayman Islands! 😄😄 This afternoon, I emailed Carbon Cycle Solutions in Bedford regarding a frame inspection. Once they get back to me with details on what their inspection includes, I’ll post an update here. Also, someone I know who has ordered an X68 has kindly offered their frame for inspection once it’s delivered — much appreciated!
