Re: Let's make the slickest bike on the planet Mate, hate to break it to you, but I think "Dragon Bikes" beat you to it ...

They don't have the transparent bar tape though! 8)

Re: VeloBuild VB-R-268 frame
Looks like everybody missed this, did you find a solution?
Brake. check YT, there are a few tests to see if the surface is clean / really needs facing or not. With sandpaper or maybe a sand paper block, or a file, you can usually get it close enough, w/o needing a pro facing tool. I've never had to do any of this on any of the bikes i've built, but it's not uncommon.
Generally, aligning discs is annoying AF, as tolerances are a FRACTION of a millimeter. But you shouldn't have to ride a setup so that the wheels stop quickly (on a bike stand) because of rub.

Bars. I dont even understand how tightening a stem makes bars too stiff. It sounds like you dont understand how to compress a steerer column. There's a video on YT about that that's well made

Building modern bikes takes a lot of precision and there are lots of mechanical aspects you need to understand, it's not rocket science, but there's a learning curve.

good luck :)

I meant the steering was too tight. Realised the crown race was not in.
Was a massive struggle getting it in and putting the fork back with the cables already done. Lesson learnt.

On the brakes, took it to a workshop, they said it was about 3mm off, so had to be faced. Absolutely worth it.

Did about 80km now after finishing the build. Absolute machine. Really enjoying the bike!

Thanks for all the stories, everyone! That is what convinced me.

Re: Issue with mounting brake caliper on Seaboard GR02 fork
Well, now it's documented here at least.

Another reason this forum is unmatched. Where else could someone get this detailed help for an obscure issue like this?

Re: DT 240EXP hub clones Goldix, Venfort
What hubs do you have it in?

GDX370 without the white label. The first thing i did when got the hub was order a second spring and white washer as its actual garbage with those. Hub > white washer > spring > ratchet-ratchet < spring < white washer < freehub. The original DT design uses two springs but most chinese clones cheap out and only gives you one. With one sping you're way more likely to slip under load than without. With no sping in the hub side the freehub rachet have to get out of the splines to properly engage with the hub side ratchet.
When you compare the og DT design you see that the ratchets are solid while the clones are hollow requring both spacers for proper function.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! Added: There's a bunch of videos on Bilibili with this frameset, unfortunately I can't seem to post links on here. Also the max tire clearance is 35c which is plenty for road and light dirt.

Original: I took advantage of some of the coupon savings and ordered a budget alloy Gas Cycle road frameset. It has a 27.2mm seat post, UDH RD hanger and threaded BB68 bottom bracket. I saw a few builds on Chinese social media and thought it'd be a nice test frame for a recent Wheeltop EDS TX groupset I won for free in a contest. I already have spare wheels and other parts laying around, so this will be a total parts bin bike build.  ;)

Re: Flat mount facing The icetoolz is just good for removing excessive paint from the mount not for facing. For facing you need something mounted to the axle as your disc is mounted to the hub guided on the axle.
