Re: Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road) Finished the build, had my first ride today!

Great ride feel. Very soft feel, especially with those 35C tires. But the frame, maybe the special seat-post takes meaningful amount of road vibration and bumps. On the other hand, it feels also stiff when putting in a little power.
Even though I reused my 105 DI2 it has the New Bike Feel. Very agile with that short handlebar (80mm). Handlebar is a little to narrow in the end, If I could, I would probably go wider (38cm -> 40cm), as my previous HB had all flare, but this has none. Anyways, that's more Aero, right?!  8)

For building up, my key learnings:

  • Make sure that you have the right BB and the right tool for the BB, as I already wrote before I made mistake here. Also there seems to be a couple of different diameters, numbers of notches etc. for T47 BB tools.
  • Fork cutting - I would say this is the most risky situation, as you need to cut with an angle AND - according to the one page manual from LC - "make sure there is a gap of 4-5mm between the top of the stem and the expander plug". Even the usual tools on Alix are only useful for cutting 90º - I build a contraption with miter box + angle to get it into the right direction but used a jigsay in the end anyways. The cut is not particular bad, but not beautiful either - If more experienced builders can share their process here, that will probably be helpful You probably have to cut 90º - I didn't read the "manual" very carefully. Check next post.
  • Besides cabling the nasty brake hoses through handlebar + frame there were no other major obstacles.
  • No sounds from the frame, even putting in 1kW, no squeaks etc. - BUT only the rattling of the rear brake hose in the frame when moving vertically with the bike - As some of you mentioned: having a liner may help here. I tried tape, but ofc the hose will move inside the frame when you turn the handlebar and the tape will cut loose

Re: Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road) Finally i got on the bike for a short 10k test ride. The weather here in south Germany at the moment is just grey and cold.

I ride my Cube Nuroad Gravel for three years now and only had a second old Peugeot Retro Road Bike for some short rides.
Recently my GF bought a Liv EnviLiv Advanced, which is quite similar from the geometry and position for me.
So i don't have a ton of different and many riding experience with a lot of bikes.

But what i felt yesterday was, that the frame is quite flexi?
As soon i stood up for some sprinting, the brake rotor rubbed against the brake pads. Sure the wheels have also some flex in it, but since the rotor is mounted on the axle the rubbing would come from the brake caliper moving?
Even during the seat post adjustment at home, i saw quite a flex at the BB when standing on one pedal.
But the brake calipers have a bit more room to move them a bit on the mounting position.

On the other hand, it just feels fast for me  ;D
Compared to the Liv, it's a bit less "aggressive" riding, i mean the feeling when turning and the overall handling when you try to ride hands free. It's a bit more stable.
Compared to my Gravel, it's very unstable and aggressive/responsive  ;D

I'm pretty happy with the bike  :)


Components working fine for now.
Only the front chainrings are quite "loud" compared to the 2x12 105 from the Liv.

Weight was around 7.6kg

What groupset are you guys pairing with the LCR018-D? I'm new to building up a bike from scratch and past bikes are have all been mechanical.

Considering L-Twoo ER9 Version 3.
Yes/No/Maybe so?

I went Shimano Ultegra as i fit the budget but did some shopping around for a deal. Merlin in the UK had a great price and was substantially cheaper than anything local (Canada). Although I was originally considering Wheeltop.  When comparing quality/longevity of some parts and having to buy other items to complete the wheeltop groupset, there was not much difference between shimano 105 and wheeeltop. Then when I compared the price difference for Ultegra, I went for that. Had I stayed at 105, I think there was a $50 difference between wheeltop and 105, with how I planned to build it up. Can be done cheaper but then shifting quality and longevity will be sacrificed.

Made some quick shots at daylight. The color is incredibly hard to capture, but there are tiny little lightpurple sparkles on the offwhite base - looks super good in sunlight. Hopefully I can start building the bike on sunday.

Re: Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road) Also if anyone is interested and have access to 3dprinter, here is my design for Garmin Varia rigid holder specific to LCR018-D seatpost profile.

Big thanks to Jim from LightCarbon, he was able to sent me seatpost profile drawing in high res and thanks to that he saved me a lot of time in CAD and measuring. I think that was pretty awesome from LightCarbon.

Only thing you will need is M3 hexagon nut (there is a little cut out in holder where do you slot or push in m3 nut) and M3x20mm bolt, puck and puck bolts you can use the ones from original Varia mount.

I also recommend to use at least 3 wall loop and 25% infill (just to be sure just print it with 100% infill, it increases weight for just 2g :) ) in slicer, and PETG material for increased temperature and UV resistance.
