Cervelo R5 "tribute"- Tan Tan FM639 build I still hate how we deal with photos here....

Anyways here is my first disc build....

Current weight- 7.05kg minus computer

Frame/fork- Tantan FM/FK639 (Cervelo R5 clone- tentative name = "Vega C5") - 950g 54cm frame, fork was 380g uncut, bike shop cut it. Chameleon paint; I can find code if people want. I'm pretty sure Tantan used my frame for photos.
Shifters/calipers/RD = Shimano Ultegra R8020
Handlebar- Tavelo Avro 380 x 130 - 347g
Seat- Ryet - 120g
Seatpost- Elita One 350mm
Wheels- GOZONE 45x30mm carbon spoke- 592/695g F/R
Tires- Conti GP5K TT 30mm, I want to say they measured at 250g/piece
Tubes- Ridenow TPU 24g
Rotors- Aliexpress stuff out of a drawer, 100g/piece + 6 bolt to centerlock adapters
Crankset- Quarq DZERO 170mm
Chainrings- Extralite 50/34
Bottlecages- AE XXX ripoffs, 15g each I think
Computer mount- Tavelo OEM, didn't measure

Had some mishaps on the first ride.... didn't tighten the saddle clamp and it came off on the first ride. Crank/BB had a 4mm gap so I had to 3D print some spacers. Other than that I really like it. Feels mostly similar to my old FM208, though the wider tires/lower pressure are more comfy. Tavelo Avro stem length is ~10mm longer than conventional and I didn't account for the 0 degree stem angle so the fit is longer/lower.... I like it though.

Only remaining parts are some weight weenie stuff.... ~60g rotors and ditching the 50/34 Extralite for a single 48T narrow-wide to run 1x. So far I really like it; need to take some nice photos as it's a beautiful bike. Good mix of modern stuff with a classic frame. I am waiting for the Chinese to get on board with the aero front/WW rear, I don't see the point of ~50mm deep seat tubes. Anyways better photos coming soon

Re: BXT 135 build After cracking my quite new frame - I finally got a replacement and rebuild it. I build it as a commuter/allround bike. On rebuilding I also upgraded some parts.
In total I really like the bike, rides great and looks nice, nothing out of the ordinary but a solid choice.

I tried to mount an old Riro crankset but the spindle was to short, so when I tightened it, it seized - had to send it back. The Z-Race 4 Piston breaks are good but the rear brake needs some improvement (probably have to be rebleeded) as the bite is not where the front brake is. And I'm not convinced with the pads, they are squeeling when wet.

I also had some problems with a gap on the headset cover - which I could improve by sanding down the compression ring see picture after sanding it down).

Re: Velobuild AERO GRAV Frame I've now ridden this for 200km and here's my take so far:

Handling & Geometry:
Fairly well balanced, although the front is prone to a bit of understeer in my view. This is probably a personal preference, and would make for a more stable steering experience compared to something with a steeper steering angle. After you get used to it it's actually quite good when cornering on the loose stuff, less twitchy compared to some of the racier options out there when going down sharp descent. But I prefer a little bit more active steering closer to road bike control. No toe overlap with Sphyre shoes if anyone wants to know.

Stiffness and responsiveness:
Short chainstays make for fairly rapid response, although my comparisons with other race gravel bikes would suggest it's not as stiff in the BB area, as the power transfer feels softer compared to i.e. the Kanzo Fast and my Lightcarbon. Read a page back from someone stating the bike is very stiff which is not my impression at all. Although I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's spongy, it's for sure not as stiff as my Kanzo Fast (which is known for it's rather stiff/ harsh character). Integrated handlesbar is fairly rigid, not harsh but not overly stiff either, well balanced.

Build experience
All went smooth, including setting up the brake calipers (which can be a bit hit or miss depending on the facing). T47 BB went in smooth and sits flat against the shell. Frame is completely latex moulded and has a perfect inside finish. Seatpost, handlebars and fork however use a bladder moulding tech so the routing through the bars was a bit messy, almost lost my routing tool in there and had to use some force and arm grease to get it unstuck. Overall though it went together just fine, headset was well done without too much play in the bearings and so far not seatpost slippage despite what some people have reported about Velobuilds previous designs with d-posts. Not overly excited with the UDH hanger, in tandem with my GRX derailleur it's made removal of the rear wheel way more fidgety compared to my other bikes, partially this might be due to the clutch and design of the derailleur though. Also not too happy about the 1.5pitch on the UDH thread as it makes it more difficult to find a direct mount replacement over on aliexpress (most seem to be 1.0mm thread pitch)

Re: Velobuild AERO GRAV Frame I've had the chance to put in some longer rides over the last few weeks with my new setup – a couple of rides on 40 mm Challenge Strada Bianca tires, mostly on tarmac and some Cat-1 gravel.

First impressions: I’m really happy with how the bike performs. Both in terms of ride feel and on Strava segments, it’s noticeably faster on road and light gravel compared to my Cube NuRoad. The frame definitely seems to offer more aero potential, and the fit is spot on for me.

Honestly, for minimalists, this bike could easily be a true “one-bike-fits-all” solution – as long as you’re not doing road races, it covers just about everything. I even find myself reaching for the Velobuild with the 40s for pure road rides instead of my SL7, just because it’s so much fun. It almost rolls as well as a road bike, but can handle gravel no problem.

Last week, I took it out for some proper gravel sessions, including some seriously rocky sections and even singletrack. It’s quick and agile, and the 48 mm Thundero tires definitely contribute a lot to the ride quality. It also performs impressively well on 2.1” Thunder Burt tires, proving its versatility across different terrains. The Zipp SL80 bars are also growing on me – didn’t love them at first, but now I really appreciate the grippy, textured tops, especially in aero hoods and puppy paws position.

Only minor regret: in hindsight, I might have chosen the frame in “gloss over carbon” instead of matte black. Still debating whether to go 1x13 with the drivetrain, too.

All in all, super satisfied with the bike. It may get its first race outing this weekend.

And… the next China frame project is already in the works – more on that soon!

With these tires (Panaracer Gravelking 38mm) on tarmac it is very fast while still allowing me to ride on dirt roads and fields that I couldn't do with real road tires.
I have a second wheelset with Thunder Burts.

I just need to get a crankset/power meter and put some stickers on it.
The options are Red, Big Rock, or Leese + Xcadey spider.

The Red is the lightest, but the others have a 24mm axle, so I can easily move them from one bike to another.

Or I'll keep the Force 22 and get the Favero MX.

It's a tough choice  ;D

I’m not a weight weenie, but a quick check of weight - the frame is around 1300 g.

The paint is a bit thin in some areas and I’m missing the through axle for the back wheel. But overall it looks good.
