Finished up my 177 build a couple of weeks ago and have been making a few final aesthetic touches.

Overall, really happy with how it turned out and how it rides. Zero issues putting the build together. Moved most of the parts over from my 168 except for the Magene Exar Ultra wheels which are new, carbon saddle from AliX and tubeless version of the Goodyear Eagle F1s I was running prior (which were constantly getting flats btw).

Really happy I made the switch, the 177 is not only a bit lighter but the main highlight coming over from the 168 I would say is how much stiffer it feels. I also like that although I think it's modelled after a Scott Addict, it looks a bit more unique given how common the SL7 which the 168 is designed after is. I think it's Velobuilds best road frame.

Currently using the original HB011 bars from my 168 which I'm considering swapping as it's the only piece with noticeable flex now that I have a stiffer frame and wheels. Only issue I had was that the moulding where the rear hanger outer piece goes seems to have some excess material, which changes the angle of the thread a bit and make the TA screw in a bit tougher than it should be. Aside from that, everything was smooth.

Re: Basing your purchase off a bottom bracket IE: BB86 vs a T47 T47 allows DUB spindles, that allows for light carbon cranks. Given the reputation (delamination) and cost (high) and weight (high) of Shimano cranksets, a carbon crankset is an excellent way to drop real weight off a build, for a good price (you can find a crankset for c.150$).
I was wondering why we almost stopped seeing 24mm spindles on carbon cranks, seems to be materials science: Shimano uses steel for a reason: aluminium at that diameter is problematic (flexy). The 28.99mm on the other hand lets you use aluminium (or better).
While it is possible to find 165mm cranks w 24mm spindles, you'll find 10 cranksets w a dub spindle for every 24mm spindle.
From that, for future proofing, i'd go with T47. My own BB is BB86 and i wish it were T47 exactly to try 165mm carbon cranks.

This is with FSA no 55 and the comparible spacers from Tavelo (via Panda Podium). It is slammed.

Re: XMCS - 2026 AERYS:VRT and AERYS:… The final form of this build will be someone around 6.8kg all in. Currently its around 7kg. I really need that setback seat post from Peter so that I can run my preferred saddle which is around 100g lighter. And I'll pop in some 30c tires instead of the current 32s.

For reference, my Quick Pro ER:One currently sits at exactly 7kg all in with similar-ish components. But using Yoeleo 60mm wheels with steel spokes that weigh 1360g for the set. Not only is the AERYS frame slightly lighter over the Quick Pro, these new XMCS wheels weigh a whopping 310g LESS. 1050g for the pair. Incredible for a set of 50mm.

Of course I could just slap the XMCS wheels onto the QuickPro and immediately drop it down to 6.7kg

Re: Xiamen Carbon Speed rims/wheels We have arranged 50/50, 58/58, 65/65mm 26mm IW T1100 version built with R506 hubs 20/20H and carbon spokes combo wheels UCI approved, I believe they will be listed on the UCI official website soon. And the 58/58mm combo wheels are wind tunnel tested with very good result, compared with some other brands wheels.

Final weight is 6,280kg as pictured (but without the Fly bottles)



The build was straight forward. They only issue was the M5 bolt from the seatpost clamp, that I had to switch out with a 5mm shorter one. Fit is not final, need to get lower and a bit longer. There is some weight savings still to make.
I liked the "Mixtape" paintjob that Specialized put on some Tarmac SL6 frames, so I wrapped the frameset with vinyl stripes. Not sure if i'll keep it that way, but thats the beauty of vinyl wrap.

Did about 550km on it in the last 8 days. It basically rides like a TCR. It just gets the job done without any fuss. There is no buss, no noise at all from the bike, which is quite nice. For the ZEN wheels I'll write something down at the propper place. Not as good as the Newmens, a lot better than the XMCS I've had issues with.

Re: LTK266-D-SL, race frame, 680g, <800g w/paint & metal parts (M), fits 35mm+ tires If anyone is looking for an alternative seatpost wedge cover, I have used one from a 2024 Giant defy and think it fits pretty well and has minimal overhang at the back.  You can pick them up for a couple of pound on aliexpress etc and just need to trim the piece the would normally sit in the bolt.
