Re: ZTTO BB92 BB86 threaded bottom brackets.
Trying out the ZTTO Thread Together Press Fit bottom bracket. Proactively replaced the bearings with some Japanese ones - we’ll see how long it lasts. Aluminum shell machining looks great, the bearing has an ID of 25mm (instead of 24mm) so a plastic shim / spacer is used (similar to what Shimano does with their press-fit BB's). Looks like it's made out of ABS plastic, probably gonna disintegrate over time. Would have been nice if they made it out of Delrin instead (as that would have been tough, and will pretty much last a lifetime). Bearings used are 6805-2RS (25mm bore, 37mm OD, 7mm width). The others i've tried (Wheels Mfg BB86-OUT, and the Origin 8 Revolvr ) uses a bearing with a 24mm ID so no shim required (crank spindle contacts the Id of the bearing). Bearing used are MR2437 ( 24mm bore, 37mm OD, 7mm width). That direct contact though, causes the spindle to wear (as you can see from my crank, the shiny part). Pretty easy to replace the bearings on these things as long as you got the proper tools. If one wanted to get rid of the plastic shim/spacer and make it direct contact, just replace the bearings on the ZTTO with MR2437 bearings, then buy the Wheels MFG Shim Spacer Pack (SHIM-SPACER-PK) May 14, 2021, 08:35:07 PM |

Juin Tech GT-F brake calipers (dual piston)
The thing I love about binge shipping on AliX is that feeling of Christmas every day as packages show up at the door. These are the flat mount dual piston, cable-actuated hydraulic calipers from Juin Tech. As far as I know, these are rebranded and sold as Yokozuna Ultimas (Ultimo?) as well. Comes with two sets of what appears to be organic brake pads. Not strictly a Chiner part, as they are not from Mainland China. 332 for both calipers, pads, and hardware. I just received my VB (separate) stem and bars. These will replace the integrated bars that are currently on the bike. First impressions are that they are stiffer than the integrated bars. I will update with pics/thoughts once I get this combo installed (which requires re-routing cables through small bar spaces )

See attached pictures (sorry for the bad pictures. it is connected to my trainer currently). I decided to externally route the cables on this combo because of how difficult it is to internally route them. The holes are very small and difficult to work with (even more difficult than the previous integrated bars). This may have had something to do with the fact that all cables were already cut to length so everything was more difficult. I think this option will be good for future maintenance though. I cut the top headset spacer to allow the cables to be internal until the stem. I was also able to connect my quadlock mount to the bars which is a big plus (the fully integrated bars are not round so this can't be done). After getting the stem/bar combo mounted, I don't think there is any difference in stiffness between the old and the new bars. However, I am on the heavy side at 220lbs so some flex is expected. Titanium Gravel bike: PYTitans build thread
I felt tempted to build a Titanium gravel bike after checking the offers of on Aliexpress, I decided to pull the trigger on following PYTitans frame in October: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001085459477.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.7cfc1333bqHRlA It took until beginning of January to arrive, but the seller was communicating clearly it would take more than two months for the frame to be ready to ship. In my experience, you can put in as much or as little effort as you want and the results are marginally different but still better than traditional oils. I started out using the Oz + teflon, and still have teflon that I add to the batches, but the studies I've seen don't show it being necessary. MSW with their brushed powder might make a difference for professional riders wanting marginal gains but I don't think this forum has many of those. I think it is less maintenance overall, especially for dry climate. I run two chains on both mountain and road. You turn on the crockpot and go about your business, come back when the wax is liquid and drop in two chains at a time. I opt to boil the chains before so I wait for any water to bubble out but this can be skipped if you're lazy. Pull the chains and wipe down. Swap them out on the bike when they get squeaky or noticeably slack. After that its a couple of hours every few weeks or less depending on your riding habits. Compare that to dealing with oil every few rides and the mess that comes with that and I'll stick with wax. And the investment really isn't much, just an old or used crockpot, cheap paraffin, something to strip the grease/oil and an old jar to clean in. My mountain bike is going on 4,000 miles across two GX Eagle chains. The drivetrain shows no signs of wear with just a bit of wax build up and both chains have minimal stretch. My road back has one Rival 11 speed chain and one SROAD 11 speed chain. The drivetrain overall looks fine but the SROAD shows considerable stretch compared to the Rival chain, like .5cm. I stopped keeping up with the commercial products after seeing no real benefit for my riding when considering the price. At that time none of the liquid based products were as clean as melted wax and the brand with all of the colors (forget the name) is just wasting the product on the outside without penetrating the rollers.
