Welcome to Chinertown - Introduce Yourself! Hi all...

In my quest to build myself the ultimate carbon hardtail mountain bike on a budget, I found myself drowning in information overload! Mainly due to the fact that pretty much all of the information about these direct from China carbon frames is all buried in one huge thread over at mtbr.com. If you're here, I assume you're probably familiar with the threads I'm referring to, but I'll link 'em anyways for reference:

Here's the 4 year old, over 200 hundred page long hardtail thread: http://forums.mtbr.com/29er-bikes/chinese-carbon-29er-640919.html
And here's the quickly growing dual-suspension Chinese carbon thread: http://forums.mtbr.com/29er-bikes/dual-suspension-chinese-carbon-29er-737952.html

It seems pretty apparent that there's enough demand for these products that discussion shouldn't be relegated to a handful of threads. So.. The birth of Chinertown.com came about. Hopefully, it can grow into an organized and plentiful information resource for anyone that may be interested in building a top of the line carbon bike... without the big name brand price tag.

So, welcome to Chinertown!

Thanks for reading,
Sitar_Ned

Re: FM1001 / FM1156 - 135mm frame What do you think about this design for my Fm1156?

The Shock Link will be black not white...

Re: FM1001 / FM1156 - 135mm frame Thank you for your feedback. The bike looks really nice!

Do you mean the geometry Chart is not correct?? The top tube is very short because of the steep Seat angle. If you sit on the bike it feels very compact...

Re: FM1001 / FM1156 - 135mm frame The head tube angle seems very steep and bike very compact.
Can tell us how tall you are and what is your inseam ?

Nice components, very promising on the trails :-)

Re: FM1001 / FM1156 - 135mm frame Probably steepening the seat tube angle is where the top tube length went. It has to go somewhere when you steepen the seat angle. He can probably get 15-20 mm back by moving the seat back on it's rails a little.

recommendations for my first mtb frame Hi! Im very new to mountain bikes and id like to build myself a full suspension bike.  Ive been doing a bit of research and i think a trail mountain bike is what im looking for. ive read they're a good bike for all type of mountain biking. hopefully thats correct, otherwise if anyone has a suggestion for a better type of frame im all ears. i know the trails my friends ride have it all. hills, descents , jumps and they were saying some have slower technical sections so this is what lead me to look for more of all arounder. ive seen some companies list the type of mtb frame they are but others just have the name. Im assuming you can tell the type of frame based on the geo but im still not sure how to tell one type over another.

then there also different types of suspension. is one better than the next for different types of trails? or are they just different design based on manufacturer? ive read that vpp frames have good anti squat so ive been looking into those .although my buddy said i can get a lockout on the forks and shock so i dont need to worry about anti squat in the suspension. are lockouts commonly used? i see more people talk about dialing in suspension rather than relying on a lockout .

if anyone has any suggestions on a frame that would be great. i know they say buy nice or buy twice but if there is a cheaper frame that i can build up to try out the sport that would be preferred. Thanks!

Re: Tideace NEW Gravel Frame: GR201 I think its closest to the Trek Checkpoint SL / SLR in terms of geometry comparison.

I pretty much disagree with every comment above regarding geometry. Its more progressive and forward leaning than a lot of other open molds, but the latest Checkpoint geo was pretty well received. This one will be a little sharper due to the higher offset fork and the BB drop is more consistent across sizes so it might feel a little more dart-y in the larger sizes. However a Checkpoint geometry without the isospeed + udh feels like a win too. Stack and reach should be pretty close to the same because Trek includes their headset cover in their geometry and this bike appears not to.

Since we are all critics, i think working the design a bit to squeeze out a couple mm of clearance in the rear would have been nice as it would have allowed for 650bx2.2 / larger 2.1s to fit more comfortably in the frame.

Overall, this would be a top candidate if i was in the market for a gravel bike.
