Re: Help a Clydesdale pick a new frame?
Hi all, I started poking through older topics and saw that you were thinking about jumping on the AM831 group buy. That is a good choice. The medium has the same specs as a Santa Cruz Hightower 2 large so keep that in mind. I'm about 6'1 1/2" and 215lbs (I ordered a medium AM831) and my only real recommendation is skip carbon rims unless the only thing you will be riding is flow trails with no jumps. I'll take the combination of compliance and durability from a good old alloy wheel with a downhill casing rear tire. You can't bang carbon back into place on the trail, ask me how I know... If you're concerned with cadence due to gear jumps of a 1x then maybe a short travel 100-120mm rear travel bike that either has a direct mount or band capable option for a front derailleur. They're going to have steep head tube angles and are meant for XC or light trail. 2x for all-mountain and enduro has left the industry and long may that continue. August 23, 2021, 09:27:45 AM |

Re: cybrsrce AM831 build
Hey cybrsrce, do you feel like the 1mm spacers brought the stiffness to a solid level? One on each side of seat tube main pivot? What material are they made of and where did you get them? Interesting that Eddy is saying they are altering the carbon layup a bit to address the issue. Unfortunately mine will probably not have these changes. Have you gotten the new rear shock in there. Been following your build and reports and am very interested in hearing how the final product has turned out. Your posts have been very thorough and help to fill a bit of the information vacuum that exists when diving into this process. Thank you! It felt acceptable at the ~20mm flex in the video and now if feels like roughly half that. I haven't had it out on the trail yet but I assume it will be even more predictable. I got these M18x27mmx1mm - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NRXPYDG but I might experiment more. The bolts are M16 (I think) and then ~2mm x ~2mm unthreaded surface to sit on the bearing. I might try two of the M18 washers (cut to the size of the bolt head) and one or two M16 on the surface that touches the bearing to make sure there is good contact. I do have the new shock in, first ride with it wasn't great. Way too harsh even after I let it sag to 35% with rebound full slow and LSC open (full soft). Fork and shock recommended PSI, rebound, LSC, and fork HSC have all been way off for me. Removed two tokens from the fork, one token from the shock, and added the MegNeg with a single band. That seems to be what most of my near-clyde brethren are doing so I'll check that out. Going to borrow a ShockWiz to speed this along. I'll add some pictures of the bolt/washer combo and maybe a new flex video with it on the turbo trainer. October 29, 2021, 02:19:12 PM |

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
I got my bolts in the mail from JJJ a few days ago. I was using the 3D printer spacers before getting these. I was pretty happy with the spacers' improvements. I installed the bolts with washers, and gave the rear a shake. I can still get it to move, but it seems like even less than with the spacers. Took it for an initial ride on Sunday. I'm very happy with them. I didn't really notice any rear end flex while riding. Not saying there is none now, but it wasn't noticeable to me. I am not the greatest rider and it was only one ride, but it so far so good. And I'm not a light rider at 265lbs. I was more concerned about a creaking sound I have had since before winter. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the bottom bracket now. I'm still using the cheap provided one, but want to switch it out now. Will any BB92 bracket do? Or is there something special I need to look out for? Recommendations on a good one? March 22, 2022, 11:22:57 AM |

Some have tried the ZTTO version but it comes with terrible bearings so you have to replace them, which brings the cost almost up to the same as Wheels Mfg — particularly if you have to get a press specifically for the task.
