Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Just returned from my VB-168 maiden voyage. Hooray seatpost clamp finally arrived. Did a quick 45km jaunt and here are my initial thoughts. Naturally my opinion will probably change over time...

1. As a "complete" build, I consider the 168 an "everyday" aero bike. It doesn't punish you by being too harsh, and neither is it flexy.

2. No creeks, rattles, or headset play. This is a combination of using a quality threaded BB, cable sound insulation, and the FSA headset working as intended. I also used light thread-locker on both derailleur hanger bolts.

3. No brake rub issues. I purchased brand new Shimano Ultegra rotors and aligning the calipers to them was super easy. Shimano is known to sell rotors that still need to be slightly "trued" upon arrival, but in this case I suppose I won truing lottery. I haven't been so lucky in the past...

4. I am still an advocate that quality wheels are more important than a frame. But I will also include having a proper bike fit and really paying attention to the decision of components at the contact points (saddle and handlebars). A frameset is only one aspect of the complete ride experience, albeit a critical one. As a complete bike with my current components, and assuming everything continues to work as intended, the 168 is a solid value if budget is really tight and if you can only have "one" bike. It doesn't have the same feeling of "urgency" as my Winspace T1500 or Allez Sprint which want you to go fast all the time, and that's okay. Those frames cost 3-4x more and wheels/tire/tube selection also play a huge role. The 168 frame wont be the reason your performance suffers I can assure you...

Regarding the topic of facing the caliper mounts (and subsequently the bottom bracket and headset opening) I spoke to a professional bike mechanic earlier today, who mostly deals with high-end bikes for competitive racing of all disciplines. He says it's very common for new frames from major brands to arrive needing to be faced. Do what you want with this information LoL

Of course my personal experiences and industry conversations are purely anecdotal. I've been fortunate not have any brake rub issues on any of builds due to caliper facing issues. And this is regardless of whether or not a brand actually faced the mounts from the factory. I was concerned my 168 would have facing issues, but the brand new set of trued rotors immediately solved that issue.

I'll follow up in a couple of weeks. Probably.

I think it turned out great.

Re: High end big brand OEM road rims 38/45/50mm on sale!!!
Hi Peter,

I am SERIOUSLY interested and don't mind getting another wheelset but my experiences with many online seller selling "high-end" OEM bicycle parts is that they don't answer the more technical questions asked. If you feel uncomfortable replying here, please private message me. If you don't know the answer and cannot find out, just let me know that you don't know so that I can stop asking. :-)   I've send you a email but have not got a reply .

So is this cutomized hubs,  36T Ratchet or Pawl type ? Is it compatible and will we be able to replace the microspline with original DTSwiss ?  What is the bearing size ? 6803, 6903 or others or mixed ? You mentioned ceramic bearings but just to confirm, is it actually ceramic or hybrid ?

What are the hub and spokes options if we don't need carbon spokes ? Any lightweight aero spokes (titanium or alloy) options with hubs that are able to accept larger bearing size, hybrid bearings ?

Please double check what I replied you here on the forum.

1. I haven't mentioned any words saying our customized hubs with ceramic bearings, I said we have extralite hubs and DT 180S hubs with ceramic bearings options.

2. I said I am not familiar with hubs technical design etc. We just ordered these hubs from Taiwan hubs factory and they are with 36T rachets. If any warranty problem happens on the hubs, we would carry that. We don't sell these customized hubs at expensive price, just reasonable, many brands hubs are customized in Taiwan.

3. The most important things, we don't sell anything on Taobao or Aliexpress, I said we don't offer any cheap stuff with uncertain warranty like those vendors, we just offer quality products and good service after sale as all my clients know

4. Why I did't reply your email, since you asked same questions here and I already replied here too.

Sure, if you don't want carbon spokes option, we offer aero Sapim CX-Ray, CX-Delta spokes , Pillar 1423 spokes, and other normal alloy spokes, so that you don't have to use our customized hubs, maybe DT Swiss, extralite, TUNE, T11, King, Carbon-TI or Bitex disc hubs instead

Anyway, thanks for your questions,  I am not professional on the hubs sfuff though :)

Re: Workswell WCB-R-306 Disc Brake - Who Sells It? The full build will look like this, the first picture.
However, WCB-R-306 looks better in my opinion, second picture. R-306 looks like a modern all-rounder aero.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Having built and extensively ridden about 10 different bikes in the past 2 years from both Chinese and big name brands...I can tell you the differences among all of them are only marginally tangible when ridden at a coffee/recreational pace. However, the differences become quickly realized when pushed to the limit. Granted not everyone is sprinting at 60km/h or bombing down a descent at 70km/h.

I'm a huge advocate that wheels/tires/tube combo plus a proper bike fit are more critical to "pErFoRmAnCe" than the frame itself. Even having the wrong saddle or tire pressure can change how you feel about a bike's characteristics.

Re: Speeder SC-R52D Inside part of the fork, where the thru axel seats, unpainted.
Where the break seats is also not really perfect, I will sand a bit.
BB not really nice either.
Headseat and seatpost fine.

Re: Speeder SC-R52D I was playing a bit with the top cap and this aluminium top cap from Aliexpress looks neater than the provided one IMO (and save 11gr.), just in case it is interesting for someone.

One question for NLD or other members with integrated cabing:
I have no experience with the FSA nr55r headset. Is normal this space between last spacer and frame as in the first pic? It looks like half a mm too much. I think I mounted it right, will check later more in detail.

Re: Speeder SC-R52D BB went in good! 1st try went in straight!
I have Shimano BB71 and pushed it in dry.
Hopefully will stay creak free

Edit: Done!
Now just have to wait on good weather for the first test ride  ;D
(And need to borrow a scale to weigh it...)

Re: Elves Falath EVO 2023 https://www.carousell.com.hk/p/2023-elves-falath-evo-%E7%B2%BE%E9%9D%88%E6%B3%95%E6%8B%89%E6%96%AFevo-%E5%85%A8%E5%85%A7%E8%B5%B0%E7%A2%9F%E5%89%8E%E5%85%AC%E8%B7%AF%E8%BB%8A-%E9%9D%9Elook-cervelo%E8%A8%AD%E8%A8%88-disc-roadbike-1209408332/

While the overall reach is still probably too short (typical Elves), surprisingly this frame would actually fit me quite well. The non-aggressive stack measurement compensates for the slammed handlebar decision. Just strange how I need a 3XL in Elves when I usually ride a M/L/56 in everything else.
