Re: Elves Falath EVO 2023 I think of all the cycling channels I actually prefer Trace Velo. He isn't a crit bro racer or some cycling snob, he's just a dude who likes tinkering with cheap bike parts and enjoys the fitness benefits of cycling. His bike mechanic skills are probably representative of the average DIY bike mechanic as well. All these wannabe YT influencers rub me the wrong way.

Re: Magene QED 12spd groupset showcased in Shanghai
My source sent me this photo that Magene told him about the shifter disc + rim compatibility. But I honestly have no idea how it works.

According to the Chinese conversation in the cyclisthub video, the hole on top is for mechanical brake cable. The hydraulic brake hose goes to the traditional location below.

It's one single design that accepts both mechanical and hydraulic braking. Neat.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-218 Since this thread is back from the dead, I thought I might as well give an update. More than 8000k done. No issues. Still the first headset with no signs of wear which is a pleasant surprise.  I wasn’t too confident in those bearings. This is the bike with the race wheels on: 60mm deep/1300g with 28mm tubulars. These feel soo nice when accelerating and the cornering feel is insane. I’m still in love with the handling of this frame and the super quick steering response.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-218 Are we doing update posts? 3000k update from me! Still working like a charm. I have put some "skateboard" grip tape on the seatpost wedge, as it wanted to reduce the torque on these bolts after what I've seen in this thread. Seatpost now holds with 2nm on the bolts.

And I can confirm you can actually ride TT on this, if you are brave enough and have a 3d printer, lol. A bit sketchy, but I wanted to try out the TT position for a bit before I pull the trigger on a new frame

Why I bought from China - these two things cost the same! Finalised my part purchases for a build. Only needed to buy a seat and tyres locally. The savings are immense. There's something very wrong and out of control when for the price of a new bicycle, you could have got a 890cc Yamaha. It ain't our problem retailers, importers etc cannot get their suppliers to manage their costs.

Re: And the Winner is... Wow!  first time I've ever won something on an Internet forum in 20 or so years of surfing and it's a major item. 8)

This would be my first gravel bike (have ridden a lot of road and MTB bikes since the early '80s, never got into cyclocross or hybrids), so I have a lot of research ahead of me for sizing, groupset, and tire size.

Re: LTwoo rim brake / mechanical 2024 refresh
Maybe there is just a mechanical blockage inside the new style brake levers. Similar to what campy did in Ekar.
I almost doubt they could mount old mechanism inside the new style levers, because the position of the downshift lever is completely different in new vs old.

It is possible, but I doubt it. I looked at the internals of the R9 Hydro vs R9 Mechanical and the shifting mechanism/gears are completely different. The R9 Hydro has something more akin to Campy Ultrashift mechanism while the R9 Mechanical has something more akin to Campy Powershift internals (think 2015 Veloce). The Campy Powershift levers only did 3 up and 1 down.

Re: Lightcarbon: New LCR017-D (or Yishun R1058-D) Public shaming works. The visible livelihood of a lot of these brands rests in the hands of positive reviews. Watch them sing a different tune (or just ghost you) once you've taken your critiques public.

Example 1
Couple years ago Elite Wheels told me my channel wasn't large enough to be sent wheels for review. Very fair assessment and I respected their descision. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. A month later, one of their auth dealer sent me a set of wheels on the shop's own dime to promote their local shop. In that video I mentioned how Elite Wheels didn't want to work with me for being too small. Three weeks later I had Elite sending me messages to send products. Even at the expense of cannibalizing sales/promos from their own dealer network.

Example 2
I've made videos in the past speaking on Yoeleo's poor customer service and fulfillment times during the pandemic. Basically saying stay away from them. Some of my local buddies ended up canceling their orders after waiting 9 months for wheels/frames. I pretty much wrote them off. But this year they came back swinging for the fences. And according to several recent customers they have been doing a good job with service.

Example 3
While Craft Racing Works 50/60 are among my favorite set of wheels, I've mentioned how they aren't great in crosswinds. When I say this publicly usually one of CRWs paid handlers enter my comment section (or privately) to defend them with "Well I don't have problems with crosswinds." Okay cool, but I do...

Example 4
Giant refused to honor my warranty for a cracked steer tube. In my initial email to them I specified that I'm aware of any financial implications incurred on my side. I just wanted my fork replaced. They told me kick rocks. So I made a video highlighting my dilemma. Didn't even bash Giant as a brand. Literally 2 days later they sent another email magically stating they'll cover everything at no cost to me. While I was a full price paying customer, are we to assume they would have done the same had I not had a social media presence? Who knows...

Candid conversations with good faith intentions of holding brands accountable is one thing. Bad faith greivences are another. While some of the comments in here could be a bit scary for new customers/members, I can't say they've been rooted in bad faith. And if these brands do in fact lurk the comment section, nothing is stopping them from chiming in like like Peter does/did with wheels. Or Eddie with Tideace. Because doing right by your grassroot supporters is a good business model.

With my chinese bike, I'm treated by other cyclist as a criminal...
