Re: Velobuild AERO GRAV Frame So I had a chance to put some tires into the frame and see whatll fit. Sadly to say, my 2.2s cleared the chain stays and sesttube just fine, but it rubbed on both chain stays. That may be from the fact the rim isn't fully true but even without the minor variation in it, I wouldn't recommend to anyone. The 50 cleared the front with around 6mm on either side so 2.2 would be fine up front.

I will say that 2.2 race King looked damn good in the frame, if you shave the side knobs off it may work but kinda seems like a waste when you could get a proper 2.1, just watch the side knob height.

Here's an album of photos I've taken so far. No calipers still so no solid numbers but the Allen key in the photos are all 6mm wide. Rear tire is a 45 terra trail and a 50mm

Re: Velobuild AERO GRAV Frame I've now ridden this for 200km and here's my take so far:

Handling & Geometry:
Fairly well balanced, although the front is prone to a bit of understeer in my view. This is probably a personal preference, and would make for a more stable steering experience compared to something with a steeper steering angle. After you get used to it it's actually quite good when cornering on the loose stuff, less twitchy compared to some of the racier options out there when going down sharp descent. But I prefer a little bit more active steering closer to road bike control. No toe overlap with Sphyre shoes if anyone wants to know.

Stiffness and responsiveness:
Short chainstays make for fairly rapid response, although my comparisons with other race gravel bikes would suggest it's not as stiff in the BB area, as the power transfer feels softer compared to i.e. the Kanzo Fast and my Lightcarbon. Read a page back from someone stating the bike is very stiff which is not my impression at all. Although I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's spongy, it's for sure not as stiff as my Kanzo Fast (which is known for it's rather stiff/ harsh character). Integrated handlesbar is fairly rigid, not harsh but not overly stiff either, well balanced.

Build experience
All went smooth, including setting up the brake calipers (which can be a bit hit or miss depending on the facing). T47 BB went in smooth and sits flat against the shell. Frame is completely latex moulded and has a perfect inside finish. Seatpost, handlebars and fork however use a bladder moulding tech so the routing through the bars was a bit messy, almost lost my routing tool in there and had to use some force and arm grease to get it unstuck. Overall though it went together just fine, headset was well done without too much play in the bearings and so far not seatpost slippage despite what some people have reported about Velobuilds previous designs with d-posts. Not overly excited with the UDH hanger, in tandem with my GRX derailleur it's made removal of the rear wheel way more fidgety compared to my other bikes, partially this might be due to the clutch and design of the derailleur though. Also not too happy about the 1.5pitch on the UDH thread as it makes it more difficult to find a direct mount replacement over on aliexpress (most seem to be 1.0mm thread pitch)

Re: Velobuild AERO GRAV Frame Temporary build... I took the wheels and crankset from my old gravel bike to get an idea.
The bike looks fantastic in terms of geometry and design. There's plenty of tire clearance and the weight is good. I think the final weight will be around 8,0/8,1 kg with these wheels and around 7,2/7,3 kg with the road wheelset.

Re: Velobuild AERO GRAV Frame Asked for a burnt terracotta with a satin (50/50 ish matte/gloss) clear, I got metallic copper, also the same decal printed for both L + R sides - although that was really my fault, I should have sent them the R (drive side :( ) decal too. I asked them to not place a decal but mask the paint, so it's in negative space. Then, the fork is raw + satin (looks nice in the sun) and insides are also burnt orange/copper. I'm really happy with how it turned out considering the price. I got some wax and some brown dye, mixed the two of them, and applied to the frame just to knock the color down ever so slightly in terms of brightness. Either way, I'm happy and I'd do their custom painting again.

Weighs about 8.8kg with pedals etc. - 8.3 with the road wheelset and tires on. The crank is pretty heavy, I used Ti bolts on the frame to drop a handful of grams. Derailleur/crank/cassette could easily drop 500-600g if I spent more, but all in, the cost was about £2200. Can't argue with that

I'm 197cm and all torso and the stem works great for me, but it's long.

Re: Velobuild AERO GRAV Frame Almost finished with my build, just need to bleed the brakes and put on some bartape. I have ordered the Elitewheels Aero+ Gravel so I hope they arrive soon they are supposed to be lighter than the SLR gravel I have on now.

Re: Velobuild AERO GRAV Frame A little update on my build after I received my Elite Wheels Gravel Aero+ wheels. I am happy with the build for now, I am thinking about integrated bars for the weight savings and the looks but I do like the ease of maintenance with the bars I have now.

I really like the frame it feels fast and comfortable for me. Even with the aero seatpost. However I think I am going to try MyVeloFit to dial in my fit a little bit more.

I didn't have any particular difficulties with the assembly, except for a few minor issues with the headset (resolved with a shim higher than the one supplied).

Perhaps I went a little overboard with the tire section (even though I have about 4mm of clearance per side at the narrowest point at the rear), but I've seen that someone else has already fitted them without any problems. The 46t is also quite close to the limit (I have about 4mm at the point closest to the frame).

I haven't done a test yet, but I'll definitely do one in the next few days.
