Re: Carbonda 515-D A wheel will deflect under acceleration and sharp cornering. Thats why the industry standard is 4mm. 6mm seems excessive. With stiff carbon wheels even 4mm is more than enough. 2-3 is ideal.

Re: Carbonda CFR515-D Thanks! Color is a fade from black to chameleon green/purple, all satin finish. the chameleon is really nice, painting job without any flaws. The bike itself is, as far as i can judge, very good quality, everything fits perfectly (seatpost clamp / spacers etc match a 100% the frame.

I went with the carbonda handlebar and i would do it again. Reason is: only the carbonda spacers match the frame a 100%. i used the 400x100 version. With this, the bike becomes quite long, if i would order it again, i would go one size down. with the frame comes spare screws, spare hangers and various other small parts. also the internal routing in the handlebar / frame did not hurt too much, i would again order it.

The frame for sure also takes 28 tires, even 32 could be possible, i assume.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-177
Finished up my 177 build a couple of weeks ago and have been making a few final aesthetic touches.

Overall, really happy with how it turned out and how it rides. Zero issues putting the build together. Moved most of the parts over from my 168 except for the Magene Exar Ultra wheels which are new, carbon saddle from AliX and tubeless version of the Goodyear Eagle F1s I was running prior (which were constantly getting flats btw).

VeloBuild VB-R-177 frame
Magene EXAR Ultra 50/58 wheelset
Magene P325CS Dual PM
Hammerhead Karoo 2 computer
Magene L508 radar light
ZTTO BB86 threaded ceramic BB
MIXED Ultra Light 7D MAX Carbon Saddle 140MM
Goodyear Eagle F1 tubeless tires
11sp Di2 frankenmix
L-TWOO ospw

Really happy I made the switch, the 177 is not only a bit lighter but the main highlight coming over from the 168 I would say is how much stiffer it feels. I also like that although I think it's modelled after a Scott Addict, it looks a bit more unique given how common the SL7 which the 168 is designed after is. I think it's Velobuilds best road frame.

Currently using the original HB011 bars from my 168 which I'm considering swapping as it's the only piece with noticeable flex now that I have a stiffer frame and wheels. Only issue I had was that the moulding where the rear hanger outer piece goes seems to have some excess material, which changes the angle of the thread a bit and make the TA screw in a bit tougher than it should be. Aside from that, everything was smooth.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-177
How are the Magene EXARs treating you?

Really well so far. They are pretty light and feel stiff and fast. I'm finally back to road tubeless which was much needed and was able to set it up at home with a floor pump. Highlights for me are the ceramic bearings, dt swiss style ratchet hub, carbon spokes and having a more shallow front/deeper back to help with stability.

Re: Yishun R086-D Aero Road The matte black paint, aero wheels, and my saddle to bar drop really help mask the frame design quirks. I'm going to keep the bike as shown, as I'm almost at my limits mentally this season with tinkering with bikes.

Some notable things:
-The caliper mounts were perfectly faced. First time ever in a sub-$1000 frame. Took me only 10 minutes to align the brakes.

-The supplied bolts for both the saddle clamp and seatpost are robust.
Saddle clamp uses two bolts: a 5mm and 6mm size bolt.
Seatpost clamp foregoes the standard 4mm bolt in favor of a 5mm.

-I ordered a 40cm width separate handlebar. My measurements show 38cm at the hoods (center to center) and flares to 40cm in drops. This is perfect, as I originally requested 38cm bars of which were sold out.

-Fit and finish around the frame from the bottom bracket to the headset cups were practically flawless. Yes I'm aware that paint can easily cover imperfections, however this isn't any different than ordering a painted frame from any brand on the market.

Re: LTWOO ER9 & ERX - Electronic groepsets Quick update for those who are curious about eR9. I ordered no box and no battery. The package itself is well done.

I have bad news and good news. Let me start with the bad news to get it over with. After lots of debugging, I found out that one of the cables (short one for FD) is faulty. Initially, the front derailleur (FD) intermittently stops working and I thought it was the FD that was faulty. It turned out, connecting that cable to the rear derailleur gives the same problem, and so I concluded that it was the cable. I have contacted LTWOO store from which I bought the set and now waiting for a response.

The good news is all other components are really well-built. I was really impressed. The small hood size feels amazing on the hand. Buttons are very clicky and feel solid. The shape and reach of the levers are just perfect for the size of my hand and fingers. The texture of the rubber hood feels slightly different from Shimano, feels a little less smooth, but I like it. Since rear derailleur is fine, it shifts quickly and there is barely any noticeable delay from the moment the button is pressed to the shift. I can confirm that the trim option is there, but no auto-trimming (they removed this for patent reason).

I can also confirm that LTWOO has now enabled 10 speed option on the application. The eR9 set came out to be just slightly lighter than the quoted weight by LTWOO. See the breakdown below.

I have not installed the set on the bike yet. I was bummed that a single cable prevents me testing them on the road. This will have to wait a little while.

Re: Picking frame for "race commuter" For the sake of closing off this thread, here's what I bought:

Focus Paralane 8.9 with 2x11 Ultegra, black; a nice barely used bike for just 1.500€. Gonna add my Farsports Kaze 45mm wheels, Hebie Rainline Premium mudguards, an OG Evkin 40cm bar, and boom...ready to go. Will add pictures once ready.

Re: Systemsix frame I just preemptively ordered my group set (Ltwoo ER9) and wheels (Elite wheels Pro 55mm). After wrapping up a couple of final questions for Speeder, it seems like I have a beautiful build to do within the next couple of months.

Thank you all for the help. I will surely post pictures of the parts and complete bike.

Great to hear! Feel free to start a dedicated thread on the SC-R49D! I am sure a lot of us will be interested!

Re: Yishun R086-D Aero Road Yesterday I brought the R086-D to my weekly fast group ride. The 2 hour training ride consists of a section of rolling hills and several sprint/drag points where we can easily hit 38-40mph on the flats with a proper tailwind. While it's technically not a road race (we re-group after every sprint section and traffic light) all the local race clubs do show up to make it quite competitive. For these type of rides I only trust my T1500 and Allez Sprint for obvious reasons.

Last year as an experiment I once brought my VeloBuild VB-168 with the same Elite Drive 65D wheels as a test. Big mistake. I was struggling all evening to put the power down as the 168 was noticeably sluggish/flexy (for me). Not great out of the saddle either.

I can confirm with both Bike Radar and Road.cc that the R086-D is a proper aero bike. Sprinting, climbing, handling into the corners at speed. The bike is fast on the flats and I did not detect any noticeable deficiencies compared to the T1500 and Allez Sprint. In fact this frame may just be slightly faster on the flats than the Allez Sprint, but I don't have any scientific data to prove it.

I've been showing up to this group ride for 2 years. Everyone knows each other well. But last night I was complimented on my ability for closing down gaps and make several bridges to the lead groups attacking up the road (I never do this LoL). While some of this is from experience and fitness, honestly the R086-D is such a bike to ridden fast with confidence.

Last thing note about the frameset specifically - I would invest in some microshims for underneath the headset cover and do a dry run of fitting the entire cockpit (including the expander plug and compression cap) before permanently routing the cables. Initially the headset cover was very slightly rubbing on the headtube. A 0.25mm microshim immediately solved the issue. I can't say if the problem was a anecdotal or a tolerance-related. No one else has reported it but just a heads up to be safe.
