Re: LTWOO RX hydro sets
Update to my previous post. I built up the bike and have gotten a bit of time in on it - not enough for any real judgements but enough for first impressions. Build notes:
Some impressions from the brief amount of time I've put on this groupset:
I probably won't update again until I've put a lot of miles on this setup, or until an issue arises. I got this groupset hoping it would be a fairly cheap, moderately high-performance, reliable groupset for my commuter/all-around bike, and it seems like it'll fulfill that role admirably. Re: 3D Printed Saddles
I got the Power Mirror clone mounted and did a few rides. It’s not great. It looks exactly like the Power Mirror and shares the same dimensions, but they got the firmness completely wrong. The actual Power Mirror is firm in the back where the sit bones are and softer up front near “the goods.” This one is switched. The back area has the density of a used sponge and is basically useless. Meanwhile the front 3D material is rock hard and doesn’t cushion at all. So you sink in at the rear and it almost angles up to the front. Not to mention the rails are oddly placed and the entire saddle angles up towards the front pretty aggressively. It was difficult to even get a flat saddle angle. All in all it’s a for sure loser in my book. I’d avoid for sure. September 08, 2023, 11:49:37 AM |

Re: Groupset News
Just spotted Sensah Empire HRD 11 speed for sale on Aliexpress. Price is $249 for shifters, disc brake calipers, and derailleurs. Looks promising! Thanks for that - I've done a little groupset comparison for anyone interested in the current state of the market for hydraulic groupsets. I have used official store prices for Ltwoo and Sensah. All items are shifters, brakes and derailleurs unless indicated otherwise. All prices include postage where relevant (to Australia - not sure how it differs for other markets). Re: 3D Printed Saddles
It seems like there are 3 new Ryet saddles in total: T50 that is seen in the photos above, X6 and X7p. Not a fan of how X7p looks like, starts out nice and narrow, but then goes full triangle mode and gets real wide real fast. T50 looks nice and solid all around, although the pressure relief channel is bit narrow. X6 has similar shape to T50, but has wider relief channel and different looking mesh (not sure how it affects comfort). I kinda want to buy X6, but gotta see how comfortable is that different looking mesh. One interesting point across all three saddles is that they are advertising 1cm extra rail length. I just received the X6 saddle and WOW. That's the best saddle I've ever used. It is super comfortable, it is almost flat and the length is great sitting in between short 24cm and long 28cm saddles. Just perfect for me. I don't know what is the exact difference between the T50 but from what I assume the X6 has to be more comfortable with thicker padding. Because it weight 20g more and the only thing that is different is the 3d mesh. The base is the same. Also when You look to the description it say road/mtb in the usage section, opposed to only road in the T50. Based on this I think X6 is more comfortable. Tbh when I ordered I did not even notice that those 2 differ. I am using X6 for my road bike, but I think I will order one for my gravel bike asweel. I am a little tempted to try the T50, but on the other hand why choose other one if this one is so good. Especially that I have a collection of saddles I don't use in my closet and don't need more. And those aliexpress saddles are rather hard to sell, like ie the ryet premium superlight saddle which was just to hard for me. Edit: after few longer rides I gotta change my opinion on the saddle. The padding on longer rides starts to hurt and rubs te contact points which causes pain :/ September 15, 2023, 03:34:55 AM |

Re: LTWOO ER9 & ERX - Electronic groepsets
My take is that some of the criticism of Lwoo is unfair. Luke (trace Vello) admits that there was an issue with the trifox frame where the FD hangar was moving. How sure is he that the FD did not sustain damage due to this? The other issue is some persons are clearly purchasing a beta version. At the time of their purchase Ltwoo had not released hence it was not sold on their official page . Can Ltwoo be blamed for persons who were part of its beta testing, turning around and selling the product they were to test? There are simply too many variables, not being properly considered. I have 11 speed DI2 and I know there is an issue sometimes when you use the app, even after properly disconnecting, the gears won't shift. You cannot re-enter the app, because its now unable to see the device.. Took me awhile to figure out it still thinks its connected and I need to disconnect Bluetooth (Even Shimano released product has bugs) September 15, 2023, 05:43:26 AM |

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc!
I have a 11-34 12 speed on the way in blue. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805628739141.html? Cassete arrived and installed. The blue is INTENSE and not as dull or muted as the pictures. Getting a rasp in 8th gear that throws off shifting for everything else if I tune it out via microadjust. Replacing my rear derailleur hanger and I will retune to see if that eliminates the noise. Replacing my rear derailleur hanger and I will retune to see if that eliminates the noise. Rasp is gone with replacement hanger and b-gap adjustment. Set to 5mm for 11-34 and SRAM Force D2 36t Max RD. My only remaining concern with this cassette is the keyed portion tolerance being too loose for freehub mounting. The keys located on the 11t portion of the cassette are not large enough for a tight fit against the freehub allowing play when installing. Its visible when the wheel and cassette are spinning. Would you say the Spedao/SRoad cassette is still the better version for a lightweight all-steel cassette? I was hoping the Ztto cassette would be an improvement. As far as fit, yeah I prefer SROAD/SPEDAO. I cant speak to longevity as I only have 35 miles on the ZTTO so far vs 800 on the SROAD. September 18, 2023, 09:46:37 AM |

Re: LTWOO RX hydro sets
I've recently built a V-BR099 with LTWOO RX12. I was most impressed by the shifters and brakes. The quality is really impressive for the money. The brakes work fine. Everything is super straightforward. Bleeding was easy (once you realize that you need to back off the little reach adjust grub screw in the lever completely in order for the master cylinder to go into the zero position and not block the oil flow). I like that the FD has its own cable stop and cable tension adjustment mechanism. That makes a lot of sense particularly for fully internally routed frames. You can just run the housing all the way to the FD and adjust the cable tension there. No need for stupid cable stop designs in the frame. I was least impressed by the RD. The whole thing looks just a bit cheap. The derailleur cage is made of carbon on the outside (which honestly seems to be more for looks than for stiffness) while the inside is made of some sort of polymer (which arrived slightly bent and I had to bend it back into shape - the seller promised to send a spare derailleur cage). The cable routing is just borderline stupid. Like other people have said already, the cable has to make a super tight turn from the barrel adjuster to where it is clamped down on the RD parallelogram. Therefore, it severely rubs agains the RD housing. I used some liner between barrel adjuster and the clamping screw to alleviate the problem. But still, it's just a very bad design. It shifts fine. Not stellar but fine. I wasn't able to get it noise free in the stand. Paired with a ZTTO 11-34 12sp cassette, there was always a clicky gear on either end of the cassette. Curiously though, on the road when shifting under load it is not an issue. So that's fine, I guess. Lastly, the brifters are obviously Campagnolo copies internally. I'm running the original 12sp Campagnolo Record on my rim brake Velobuild VB-R218 which uses the same kind of mechanism (Campagnolo Ultra Shift). I can say that the LTWOO thumb paddle requires significantly more force and is harder to shift accurately and not overshift compared to Campag. Time will tell if with further use the action gets easier. Campag are more or less producing this tech ever since their first ergopower 8sp shifters came out so I guess they had 30+ years to perfect it. For the money, I think it's a great groupset but IMO especially the RD can be improved. If the cable pull ratio is identical, I'd probably put a 12sp 105 derailleur on there and be done with it. Re: Velo Build R-099 Build
Here is my VBR-099, build completed just in time for the weather becoming crap in the UK. I bought the frame 2nd hand from ebay (£350) and lifted the parts from my bowman palace. Interestingly the brand "Fire" up-sells the frameset for £2800 here https://ridefire.cc/collections/ignite The frame itself was easy to work with. I had more problems with odd little things breaking with my old parts. Im now just sitting staring at my bike in the garage waiting for a weather window September 20, 2023, 10:15:18 AM |
