Re: 3 years warranty Carbon Speed Gravel frameset
Love to have a Pina inspired gravel frame but I am addicted to the t47 bb now. The BB is t47 on this one May 02, 2024, 09:24:44 AM |

Re: Are any of the bottom brackets on aliexpress of decent quality?
I ran a ZTTO BB86 on my Velobuild for a bit with no issues. My cousin now has that bike and the BB is still going strong. For cheap brand name BBs I like Token. No issues with them ever, the $30 Token BSA30 on my gravel bike spins longer and smoother in the stand than the Ceramicspeed BB86 on my road bike, lol. I've also never paid retail for a SRAM or Shimano BB. With enough searching and patience I've always found a good deal on them. August 25, 2024, 02:15:48 PM |

Re: Lightcarbon: New LCR017-D (or Yishun R1058-D)
I don't know what happens psychologically but a lot of people feel shamed in voicing their complaint. Interesting perspective, i hadn't thought of that. we literally learn "esprit critique" in school, so our tests virtually never are multiple choice questions, but much more mental masturbation to lay down on 8 pages of blank paper. We're supposed to critique, think, postulate and stuff. I see in this mindset a parallel with engineering, where you ask yourself is the process good, is the material right, what can fail, why, how often, how to minimize failure and at what cost, where's the break even point beyond which you're losing more money trying to avoid a problem than letting some problems happen and only then remedy them, and so on. I do know that women often dont feel comfortable speaking up because boys are socialized to be a lot less civilised than girls, and much more conflict happy, but i didnt think about the fact that men could also feel uncomfortable telling some to eat a (metaphorical) dick. People (and therefore factories) respond to incentives. If there's no backlash from doing crap, the logical thing to do is crap, unless you happen to find a factory / workers who take intrinsic pride in their work. We have this in France for example, you'll still find craftsmen who are proud of what they make. They're never the richest dudes, but they are the best dudes. But they're a dying breed, it's an aethos (see what i did there?) that's dying as the culture rots. Who said we couldn't talk philosophy on a bike forum? September 17, 2024, 10:22:55 AM |

Re: Frame for mix road/gravel use possible - SPcycle g056 build
Of the two sets of spacers I tried with my bar neither looked right on mine either. I think the only real solution is custom printing some for the 50mm head tube. The Creston bar is made for a Scott. I went back to the Roval bar on my bike which (IMO) looks perfect. my plan right now: machine the compression ring put set screws between comression ring and top cover to move cover back as far as possible (around 1mm to be gained I think) and get a better alignement between the front opf the head tube and the headset cover file as needed headeset spacers to have a good alignement betwee various spacer in the stack (probablu the headset cover and the 2 thisckiest spacers will be used) once this is done I think the visual result will be good or at least good enough September 26, 2024, 09:54:48 AM |

Re: Please start using Mywhoosh?
The GTA V mod looks really interesting-not sure if it's still being supported. I ride through the real life version of GTA Los Santos. Sometimes the game version isn't so far off from reality! September 27, 2024, 12:53:41 PM |

Re: New frame: Longteng RD301-D
I would be super curious as well. I have a spcycle g056 that is great but I want a more road oriented bike. I messaged through the website 2 weeks ago but no response. Maybe inundated from the holiday. So I got in touch with them and after some back and forth:s they claim the clearance is 6mm on each side (rear) and 7mm (fork) when using a 38mm tire. So that should mean a total clearance of 50mm rear, 52mm fork tire clearance. So squeezing in a 40mm gravel oriented tire might just work which would result in a very capable allrounder! Re: Gravel frameset recommendations, anything I've missed?
I'm curious why most these builds with the G056 frameset are coming 8kg plus? My goal is to keep my next gravel build 7.5kg or less. I would love to hit 7kg or less, but I'd have to invest in a new wheelset or go source a Crux frameset. Does the T47 thread inserts plus BB add unnecessary weight? It's a gravel bike, not that easy to get it to 7.5kg which is a weight of most TdF bikes. My road bike Scott addict rc with dura ace and many light components including carbon spoked wheels, light tires, TPU tubes, light cassette etc is 7kg without pedals, cages etc. so 7.35kg ready to ride. And that's really good weight. I can only go down more with lightweight carbon crankset (around 200g saving), superlight thru axles and maybe some crazy 100g bare carbon saddle (no way I'm doing that). My gravel has all the light components also. Light carbon wheels 1420g, sram xx1 cassette and Rd, sram force crankset+ power meter. Only way I could save weight here is go to some crazy light wheels, red crankset, smaller lighter tires and light integrated cockpit. But I still don't think that would get me to 7.5kg from 8.5kg now (without pedals). Don't get me wrong I'm a weight weenie myself but we all overestimate how much it matters (especially on gravel). I treat weight weeniesm more like a hobby then performance gains nowadays. Even Dylan Johnson who is a marginal gains freak said that out of 4 most important marginal gains weight is at last place. People put so much "weight on weight" because it's the easiest to measure and see for yourself. While things like aero and rolling resistance are a little harder to see and understand for most people. All that said I still love a feeling of a light snappy road bike October 21, 2024, 06:57:04 AM |
