Re: Chinese cycling clothes
+1 for Spexcel Rion is absolutely on par with them, and has some warehouses in the EU. Giyo makes great gloves and shoe covers. I think Santic is on the same quality level with Rion and Spexcel, but I don't own anything from them (yet). Racmmer is on the normal, lower quality level of AliExpress, but they have really nice colorful jerseys. No experience with Darevie yet, but they don't look too bad either. Soft-Tail Build
Hi there, I had started mountain biking on a hard tail with 120 mm travel up front and some wide 27.5x 2.8" tires. Eventually the full suspension envy set in and I built up a Chinese carbon with 150mm front and rear travel. While it is still a fantastic full squish I was never as fast and it always felt like over kill on the desert trails I ride here in New Mexico. The full suspension had a max rear tire of 2.35" and I also really missed the low pressures I could ride on my original hard tail. Also, every dull thunk of a pebble being thrown into the carbon frame made me cringe and fear for my life. This lead me to start pondering having a titanium hardtail built. However, I stubbled on a couple others on this Forum who had Titan weld up some custom soft tail frames similar to the Funk La Ruta+ and the Leon 88 Semita. (QuentinLL and Ottoreni, thanks for all the tips and pointers!) Having seen how well the soft tails came out I decided to have Titan weld up a frame to my specs. I had previously used Tiris for a gravel bike build. The quality of the build from Titan was soo much better (I don't want to get into the troubles and quirks I've dealt with that frame here), but the Titan build was much smoother, no weird quirks, and with so much better communication. This soft tail bike is an absolute Joy to ride! It is the perfect tool for rough, rocky trails I ride. It is definitely not a full suspension, but that is what I was going for. The one thing I would change if I did it again would be to opt for a slightly thinner flex plate. I used a 6 mm plate for the increased durability, but I think 4 mm would be fine and allow for more travel. The 6 mm is more rigid and as result I have to use less pressure in the shock. Re: BXT Gravel 135
Apparently BXT has a pretty bad rep in Brazil, especially for not honoring factory defects, etc. Their gravel frame doesn't seem so bad, if not a bit heavy (though it does have big tire clearance). This lady on YT built one up and made a video: https://youtu.be/l9TAyIebl8g?si=9kk938cvE9IbGlPy September 18, 2023, 11:14:15 AM |

No blemishes, one scratch on the seatpost but you cant see it once inserted. Overall I think this build is going well so far. Frame looks good from what i see and doesnt flex or anything like that. Looks like gonna be a great build for the price, coming in under 2.5k I estimate weight is going to be around 7-7.4kg without pedals. frame is beautiful. September 20, 2023, 12:44:17 PM |

Niu Ju Computer Mounts
Hey all, I wanted to share a product I recently purchased. I have heard of these mounts and that they had potentially been whitelabeled under a different brand. It took a lot of searching to find these, and I ended up at the TorqueNiuJu Bike store on Taobao, a place i had heard mentioned on other forum. I dont know if thats true that others resell these mounts. I cant yet vouch for the durability of the mount, but i don’t foresee any issues. What I can say is that these mounts are very, very impressive in terms of the machining. Not quite K Edge quality, as looking really carefully I found a spot where the CNC was either stopped to cool down of was repositioned before the pass was complete, but its a minor thing. They are not cheap (~$25 or 188 RMB + International shipping if you arent in China) and can only be found on Taobao. However, for the quality of the machining these are a very good value. I went through the trouble of purchasing it directly and using Taobao’s international shipping service, but using a forwarder like Superbuy is probably the way to go for most people, though I have never used that specific service. Keep in mind these are stem specific. The one I bought is 24mm spacing to fit the Kalloy Uno. Its the Giant Type A option. Gallery is here: https://imgur.com/a/5CcmhiS Taobao link: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09.2.0.0.317b2e8dWThZ1S&id=610261725473&_u=d20gcba5cefa0e Hope this is useful for someone! Re: Bona Ti
They say 45mm tire clearance, not 54mm. Having designed mine with Waltly (see this thread: https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,4490.0.html) I realized it is not that straightforward to make a really big clearance gravel frame. Several items get into the fight to limit it: - internal routing - short chainstays - standard seat tube - cranks with small Q-factor / large chainrings all of these complicate having a very large clearance. So either you sacrifize the internal routing on the right chainstay, or you make the chainstays longer (>440mm), and/or you make the seat tube curved or joining the bottom bracket rather on the front side, or you put some cranks with larger Q-factor and maybe a wider bottom bracket. In my case, my compromise was a standard 50mm clearance, with chainstays at 435mm, shift cable going below the right chainstay instead of inside (although going AXS in the end, so this does not bother me ). Titan Hardtail 2024
Hey guys. I've done my research into getting a custom Ti hardtail frame made. Lots of choices in China and many more elsewhere but my budget doesn't allow for that. In the end I have gone for a frame to be made by Titan. I intended to order a frame a few years back and didn't get round to it but paid my deposit yesterday and looking forward to updating you guys on how the frame comes out when I get it. I have opted for an integrated seatpost this time. No real reason other than I like the look of it and never tried it before and thats a good enough reason for me. The total price will end up being about $1200 which includes shipping to the UK which is about $260 - so in terms of cost, if the frame lives up to what I expect, then it will be great value. My rides are mostly tarmac and paths because the majority of my mileage is commuting 40 miles per day and I don't ride so frequently on my days off. Spec wise: Frame geometry is outdated but it is based off the Cannondale Flash from 2013. I have this bike right now and the fit is perfect for me, so i thought I'd better not mess with that. I intend fitting the majority of the stuff onto the Ti frame. This includes a lefty fork and I also have a titanium lefty fork on order from Van Nicholas. Again, no purpose other than aesthetic. I've opted for BB30 bottom bracket shell and external cable routing. I just doing like internal routing personally and I have lots of frames so changing stuff between bikes is a lot easier like this. The lefty fork has a spacing of 135mm between clamps, so I asked for headtube to be 134mm and I have shims to remove any gaps. I just wanted that extra mm to account for any tolerance stacks. I didn't want a 1.5" heatube (upper and lower) like my Cannondale so opted for tapered instead and gonna use standard IS42 and IS52 bearings and then I will use a lefty adapter to fit that on. Rear of the bike will have exchangeable dropouts for 135mm QR and 142mm TA. Experience with Titan so far: I have always heard back from Anita when emailing and she had been at Titan for over a decade, perhaps even from the start. I like that the replies are helpful and fast. There is a time-zone difference of course but sometimes we have exchanged emails minutes which is great when finalizing details. So that's it for now. I expect to get the frame probably in late-March but I am not in a rush. February 05, 2024, 09:49:19 AM |

Winspace T1550 Build (NEW 1550 2.0 thoughts)
Not many people post photos of their completed bikes on here, but I always enjoy the posts. So I wanted to post my recently completed build on here, and share how much I spent. A lot of builds on here are really balling on a budget but I really purchased from mainstream vendors for less sketchiness, build came out to $3,288 assembled by my LBS Mechanics first "Chinese" build at the bike shop, he was very impressed with the quality and noted that the internal cable routing gave him no problems. All of the workers at the bike shop where really interested in the build and none had ever heard of Winspace. This really shows how obscure this forum is, we are so far away from mainstream. He did ride it and was super impressed with it, I told them how my goal was to create an entry level roadbike, but have carbon wheels at the same price point. 8.1 kgs with everything, 17.85 lbs Frame: Winspace T1550 ($1230 Black Friday) Wheels: Winspace 2023 Hypers D45 ($1049 Black Friday) Bar: Winspace Zero SL 380 W 105 L ($171 Black Friday) Groupset: Shimano 105 R7120 Disc ($688 Merlincycles) Tires: Conti GP 5000 ($130) Tubes: Ride Now TPU 36g ($25) Seat: Specialized Power Comp (Free: Old Bike) Pedals: Shimano 105 SPD-SL (Free: Old Bikes) Shop Assembly- $240 February 07, 2024, 02:33:25 PM |
