From what I can see, Lexon are expensive for what they are. Something like a Seraph is cheaper and an equal lottery?

If you want great quality, Carbonda is a great option.

I know Eddie from Haideli has posted about the FM-XC029 (https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3770.msg37810.html#msg37810) but I can find very little else about it.

- Has anyone built one? Experiences?
- Is it the same frame as from other suppliers? My list of potential XC builds suggests not but I am likely wrong!

I ask because it looks like a good value option for my 2023 cross country marathon build, which I am currently obsessing over.

I'm looking at spider mounted power meters and I'm interested in hearing other people's experiences and advice with xcadey, sigeyi or others. It will go with:

- Z Race blade 30mm spindle crank with sram direct mount pattern (i know ill need to replace chainring
- Wahoo Element Bolt computer
- Samsung S9 phone on Android 10

Considering one of these for the next project. Would love to hear opinions from anyone that has received and built one... and of course any pics. Most of the numbers seem pretty close to a Cannondale Scalpel SE.

+1 for the Carbonda. Built one for my son a few months ago and he loves it. Rode it myself last week and was really impressed. I am 178cm and the med felt too small on the climbs, but awesome going down. For 179cm I would definitely recommend a large. We put a 170 fork on the front and it’s not too slack.

One thought on finish: rather than pay for paint and then wrap, we went for raw and put a matte wrap on it. Looks good and is holding up well.

The build was fun to do together and we got some killer deals on takeoff and discounted parts. Nothing else new comes close for $3k CAD.

29er / Re: Thömus / Thoemus Lightrider - is this a catalog frame?
« on: July 11, 2022, 02:29:07 PM »
Very similar to the Carbonda FM936 (also used by NS Bikes and several other brands), but the shape of the flex stays and a couple of front frame details are different.

The FM936 looks like a great frame, which is why I was kind of interested in the Thoemus and finding out if it is available elsewhere. To me, the new-breed of xc bikes is the most exciting part of mtb development at the moment. I have half an eye on one of these bikes eventually replacing my Airwolf.

I know that all manufacturers put something special together for their pro riders (Trinx being a great example), but I just don't buy the idea that small western brands like Quest, Evolve and NS Bikes have someone sat at the end of the production line checking every frame. They trust their suppliers - thanks for the Carbonda link!

I am intrigued by this bike after seeing it in XC World Cups: https://thoemus.ch/bikes/lightrider-wc-2020/

It looks like it could so easily be a catalog frame. Does anyone know? Who makes it?

I found (shipping to Canada) that the UPS communication was horrible. BUT the frame did show up in 7 days from ordering (no paint). Hopefully yours is not far away.

My son has been riding his fm1002 for about a month. He absolutely loves it with a 170mm 36 on the front.

I ended up ordering the headset from Carbonda just to have something - if nothing else it's a template for a replacement!

Based on comments here i expected it to be terrible. It doesn't look great but works so far and very similar to the one that came with my Airwolf which is absolutely fine after a year of hard riding.

Your easiest option may be to contact Carbonda again and get them to send out a headset.

And.... it's built! Just chain to buy and pedals to fit. My only tip from the build is: do the internal cable routing while you have the back end off to check bearings. It's much easier to feed rear brake hose and derailleur cable through that way.

Update: Frame has arrived and looks amazing.

We have a shock, forks, bars and stem. Other parts are on the way. I'll start a build thread when they arrive.

That helps. Thank you!

We picked up a trunnion RS deluxe suspect + yesterday and UPS shows the frame is clearing customs so won't be long before we can look at this with real parts!
