Goldix chainring are a pass for me moving forward

Tried a 0 offset one on my mtb, chain kept on dropping, didn’t even ride it, upgraded to passquest, 0 drops, everything the same.

Si I guess passquest is a recommendation for me and Goldix is a pass.

Which Goldix chainrings are you using? I'm using 3mm offset Goldix chainrings on my gravel bike with a GRX 812 RD. No drop chain issues whatsoever. Though on my GRX 812 RD I leave the clutch ON and tuned at a low tension setting so shifting remains smooth. I have Pass Quest chainrings as well, but the Goldix chainrings are cheap. I figure I'll run those until they wear out.

The Flyee ticks all my feature boxes and price seems reasonable compared to other mid-tier options. ICAN customer service also seems very responsive. Though the frame is still fairly new and not much user feedback yet.

I doubt they have spare parts laying around. I’d wait for the next AliEx sale and pick up a replacement eGR RD. Post some pics of your RD, you should be able to readily remove the inner cage plate and spray paint any scruffs. Also nail polish enamel can be used to cover up any scratches on the main unit.

I’d still double check your derailleur hanger with an alignment tool, no way you can eyeball if it’s straight.

Easy, you can buy both an HG and XD freehub from Elite Wheels and jump back-n-forth depending on your choice of cassette. HG goes 11t smallest and XD will get you to 9/10t smallest.

Actually I asked a somewhat similar question in the components sub-forum, but I'm wondering if the 9t cog is any good in real-world use!

I didn't think about this properly on first reading - now I see what you mean sorry. Is there something a fair bit smaller than the 31 that the GRX 820 2x comes with & that would fit the cranks? I'll have a proper search online tonight.

There are a few low cost sub 46-30t 2x chainring/cranksets. None of them are performance oriented. White Industries has a variety of chainring options you can explore, but you'll need to spend money.

https://www.whiteind.com/product/vbc-chainring-sets/

I still say wait a few months, Sunrace seems quick to release cassettes in those gap ranges that Shimano or SRAM haven't addressed. For Shimano GRX, I feel like 11-40t is the most sensible cassette you can run without too much compromise. If you really need mountain climbing gears, 1x and a small chainring upfront is the easiest way to do it.

Maybe if they added new features like wider tire sizes and possible perks such as UDH or a threaded T47 BB, even then it's not really a necessity unless something is holding you back from your current frame. Better off investing that money in either wheels or components that will help your performance.

There are days when I prefer wearing a t-shirt and use a fanny pack when going on a bike ride. Regular fanny pack straps aren't padded. So I opted to use these cheap neoprene velcro pads originally meant for use as a chain stay protector (they suck for that job). As strap cushions they work much better! You can also cut them to length depending on how much padding you need.  ;)

VG Sports does make a 12 speed XD 10-46t, but it's ridiculously expensive for what it is:
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805863506837.html

The other cheaper option would be to get a 12 speed MS 10-45t from Shimano. Though all these options would be severely compromised on a 2x setup. Perhaps you could go with a smaller chainring setup to make it happen.

I'd say give it a few months, Goldix/ZTTO/Spedao only have a handful of 12 speed cassettes available that hit either the road or big MTB ranges. 11 speed still has the majority of 40t-46t rage cassettes. I'd also keep an eye on Sunrace, they already have their 12 speed road and big MTB cassettes available, but nothing yet in the 40t-46t range.

I went from a 2x mech to 1x eGR. Because I've had no issues with mine, I would say yes, totally worth it. It meant a lot less hassle routing cables through the frame, and the shifting once dialed in is flawless. But it's worth bearing in mind that this groupset I think can still be considered 'in testing'. I'm not sure I would have the confidence to take this bike packing on a multi day adventure and feel secure in the knowledge that there will be no issues.

Both my road bikes are running Ltwoo ER9 and they've been running flawlessly. I've been tempted to go electronic with all my bikes, though I'm hesitant with my gravel setup just incase something happens while I'm on a remote trail in the mountains. The other thing is I'm not entirely convinced I'll stay 1x, I also like 2x gravel as well. I'm currently using  2x Ultegra shifters, so it'd be easy to drop a mechanical FD if I switch back.

Can anyone give feedback switching from a mechanical 1x setup to the electronic eGR? I'm curious if you found the upgrade worth it on a 1x setup?

I like this frame if I were looking for an all-arounder. Though for a climbing frame, the ICAN FL1 frameset (Aethos clone) is cheaper and weighs 100g less. It has almost the same features of T47 BB, 32c tire clearance, but no UDH. Also ICAN customer service seems pretty good. I would definitely consider buying from them in the future.

Just get these if you want a spider power meter:

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805672001074.html

You can even take off the spider power meter and put it on another 3-bolt direct crankset if don't like the ZRace crankset. These were on sale for $265 USD last week during the sale (plus coupon codes). They cost as much as the Magene power meter sold by itself. Might as well get a free crankset in the process.

I went on a buying spree during the back-to-school sale, but mostly small items and I really need bike parts for school!  ;D

First I picked up a few Pass Quest aero chainrings. I don't think they make me go faster and they're a bit noisy in the low gears, but they look cool on a 1x gravel build: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805802961930.html

I also picked up a few Goldix chainrings, because I like having options. On Pick 3: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806852034023.html

I bought a few sheets of faux CF protection decal protectors. They're relatively lightweight and since all my bikes are black, it's a good way to protect my bike frames, while being relatively weightless. Also the adhesive doesn't leave any residue and during the sale were under $1 USD on Pick 3 (used to be $1.99 USD for 3 sheets): https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806808805802.html

I picked up these cheap ABS plastic SPD pedals. I normally use lightweight road-like SPD pedals, but I'm planning to swap cranksets out for different 1x gearing options when specifically climbing the trails. I prefer these pedals because the plastic doesn't scratch/dent surfaces (I owned them before, but gave them away) and I don't really care for those fancy alloy MTB pedals: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806124459641.html

I've mentioned this base layer on the Chinese cycling clothes thread, but I'll drop them here. I'm a big fan of these inner mesh tank tops. They're cheap and effective at wicking away sweat on hot days and keeping me a bit warmer when temperatures drop. On Pick 3, they're less than $3 USD a pop: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806910751768.html?

I bought a pair of these aero socks with a silcone non-slip grip. I didn't have high expectations, but after trying them out they work extremely well. Though I'll have to see how they hold up after a few washes: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806824187391.html

I also decided to try the Spedao lightweight 11 speed 10-42t cassette. I had a so-so experience with the Spedao road cassettes, but I'll see how this cassette will handle. I mainly got it for the 10t cog, just so I can run slightly smaller chainrings on the gravel bike: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806211398285.html

Lastly I ordered (okay, not a small purchase) this Easedon wheelset for my climbing road bike. I opted for the lightest configuration of sub 1200g. I don't really care for aero, since I mostly climb anyways. I'll report back to see if they're any good: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805991276022.html

I normally don't buy Chinese cycling clothes (I prefer western brands during discount sales), but for the price I'm really liking this mesh base layer tanktop which I even wear during hot summer days. It does a good job wicking sweat away from my jersey. It also helps me stay cool in the heat and warm towards the cool evening.

I also tried these aero cycling socks with a silicone elastic. I thought these were a gimmick, but I wore them today and they were quite comfortable.
