Thanks again MTB, I've been looking at the new XT 8000 series, does that front derailer look like it may fit better as it seems to be a direct pull? Or am I dreaming?

I'm a bit scared to run a FD on this frame as it seems to be really poorly designed for it, but I'm also a little bit anxious to run a 1x11 setup as I may get stuck on some hills.

How did you decide on that frame out of interest, did you look at the two more popular 057 and 256 frames also?

Hi MTB, thanks for all your posts, the info has been really helpful. I will be building my own 256 in the near future.

I did have a question about what the conclusion was with the front derailer. I was following your thread about the 256 Direct Mount,http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,296.15.html but it didn't really come to a conclusion. I can see in your most recent picture that you are running a single front ring now. Was this because you couldn't find a front derailer that worked, or you just thought it would be easier? Do we know if any front derailer works nicely with the 256 frame?

Out of interest, have you been happy with the 1x setup? I'm only just getting in to riding so wanted to give myself as many options as possible with a 2x setup for now.

Did you manage to get yours working as you want MTB? It seemed like you had the same FD specified by Erik, but it was not working for you? I'm looking to build a 256 and hoping to learn from your experience.

Which is the correct FD to be using on the 256 frame?

Hi guys,

Been doing LOTS of reading the past few days. I used to ride bikes a lot when I was a kid, and have just bought my mates old second hand Giant Axis to start riding again here. The idea behind that was to get back in to the sport as cheaply as possible, and then I'd have some idea when it came to dropping some cash on a nicer ride. Enter the carbon frame option. I'm loving seeing all you guys build up bikes from scratch. I'm pretty good at mechanical things, but need to learn everything about bikes. Got some really handy guys at work who have done multiple builds, and with some assistance from you guys on here, I've no doubt that I can get something beautiful built.

So at the moment, I'm just trying to work out exactly what I need to have on my order sheet from China. I'm thinking a full carbon hardtail frame, rims etc. I'm in no rush to get it all together so I'll be on the look out for the most bargain components I can (i.e. not cheap and nasty, but anything that is a cracking deal I'll have a good look at)

So far I'm thinking a 256 frame. Just gotta get some quotes from Peter (he seems like the preferred vendor on the forums, and I'd like to support his new business)

So thanks for providing such a great resource, I hope to be writing much more in the not too distant future about how my build goes.
