MZYRH 327 - original design, I run these on my Surly Krampus, no issues at all.

MZYRH 327 are probably my top recommendation.

Thanks for the for the solid recommendation! Have been running them for the past 1.5 months and have been really satisfied with them.

Hello,

I am looking to replace/upgrade the cheapo square taper 1X crank-set on my gravel bike with a sensible budget choice.

Pretty much the only criteria for the cranks were that they have to have a 24mm steel axle for durability and BB availability both online and in shops.

The three options that I have narrowed down and their pros/cons are:

  • Senicx PR3/GR3:
Pros: lots of recommendations, probably the lightest option, direct mount chainrings are sexy
Cons: reports of installation issues regarding the axle length. (IDK if I can post links to other forums/reddit, but I have found 3 posts regarding the axle length maybe not being enough.)
  • Prowheel DMA
Pros:Theoretically perfect chainline (47.5 mm), known OEM manufacturer, direct mount chainrings are sexy
Cons: not many reviews on the product, branding is a bit much
  • Shimano CUES FC-U6030-1
Pros: Very well known brand, bought form a closer shop, steel chainring (durability)
Cons: mystery weight (most likely not the lightest), spider mount does not look as clean

    Two questions:
  • Which do you think is the better choice, all of them will cost about the same (+/- 5 EUR), so it is just about the quality/features.
  • Are there any other option I should consider?

Component Deals & Selection / Flat pedal reccomendations

Are there any good Aliexpress flat pedals?

A couple of years ago people were raving about fooker knock off of the Raceface pedals, but I can't seem to find them on Ali and on amazon they are almost as expensive as the real deal.

Has anything noteworthy on Aliexpress come around since then?

PSA for most europeans: LIDL sells the same 2-24nm torque wrench you see on aliexpress for half the price under their brand crivit. Typically 22ish euros on ali, picked one up for 13 locally. Tested against my BBB torque wrench with shit bits, they measure the same. Also better customer support I suppose. I think that's insane value. Example here: https://www.lidl.fr/p/crivit-cle-dynamometrique-pour-velo/p100387459

Damn. Two weeks back it was only limited quatities and 20 euro in Latvia.

Maintenance, Mechanics, & Tools / Re: What bike lock do you use?

You can get a Soldsecure diamond rated bike lock for like 30$, that only can be defeated, in a realistic timeframe, with an angle grinder. If you are worried about weight then getting a smaller lock probably is the way to go rather than a "slimmer one". If/when you need to lock up wheels use an additional cable.

I bought a OnGuard Brute for like 30 euro.
