Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: DFS Carbon Wheels
« on: January 06, 2026, 04:07:06 PM »
Ideally, I’d prefer a wider internal width (24–25mm). DFS rims are 25mm, and they’ve now introduced a SUXL rim using the same profile as their other models. When I asked how they managed to achieve a lighter rim with the same profile, they explained these rims use T1100 carbon vs T1000. The rims are rated for 90kg rider weight (not system load limit) and have passed 95J impact testing.
238g hubs (20/20H) carbon spokes 3.2mm, This setup comes in at 982g total weight , which is impressive.
And they do hidden carbon spoke nipples I like!  ;D

In total agreement with you. Any price quote on this build yet? I wonder if we'll see a Lunar New Year discount next month.

FWIW I have done a 52/34 before and shifting was fine, thought slightly slow in shifting between the rings.

You can't ask for more details on the wheels? But given the rapid pace around wheel development, I would zero the value of the wheels and consider the frame at that price only.

Yes! Thanks for all your work for the community to explore these options.

Agreed. That second photo looks a lot better. The first photo doesn't have the streamlined look of internal nipples, and I'd rather use tape in that case.

Sander2177, no internal nipple option for this new 52mm wheelset correct? (Needs rim tape)

Why do you like the 16/18 spokes versus 20 or 24? Weight, crosswinds?

I would love to try a set of 40/45 wheels.

Unfortunately the closest place to get decent climbing is a 2 hour drive from Chicago. Lots of rolling hills. 1600m of climbing for every 100km of riding. Nothing sustained longer than 3-4 minutes however. Maybe I'll fly out to California this winter.

Patrick, try out a 50/40 or 45/50 instead! I'll see you in NorCal!

You should ask them about that. I don't know how obvious those are under normal usage/light, but I think it would be annoying as a new frame. If that is not to be expected, they could at least give a small amount in refund.

Pretty sure I'm the only person in this entire thread that has specifically asked for the ZEN decals and no I didn't know I had to apply the rim tape myself (I totally forgot about this and if it was an option I would have gone for no holes in the rim bed).

They look great! Subtle.

@JustinFox

If you know:

1) Did they have to come with Zen decals?
2) Did you ask them to install the tubeless tape for you?

"However, for new orders, Zara mentioned that it might be possible to obtain the HX hub — which is more expensive — if enough demand is generated to meet the MOQ of 50 units. "

I'd be up for this. Waiting for your impressions on the build!
