29er / What headset do I need for the 098 frame?
« on: February 01, 2016, 05:46:46 AM »
Hi guys
I bought a 098 frame at E-Bay. In accordance to item description, the frame was supposed to arrive with a headset included but my frame arrived without the headset.  :-\
I guess I'll have to buy a headset but I'm not sure what kind of headset do I need. The seller is currently away until February 17, so I can't contact him right now and I don't want to wait two weeks to begin building my bike, as long as I have most of parts already.
My 098 frame is a tapered 1 1/8  1 1/2 frame and I have a Pike RCT3 tapered 1 1/8  1 1/2 fork but I just need to be sure what kind of headset to buy because there are lots of options.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to all of you guys for your kind answers and suggestions. I decided to order the 51mm offset fork. Once delivered, I'll mount it and I'll tell you my feelings on the bike.

Hi guys
I have bough a 098 frame (still waiting to arrive).
I would like to go for a Pike RCT3 fork with 46 mm offset (in the frame's description and frames diagrams there is a 46mm offset in the fork) but I can't find that fork in 46mm offset. I can only find 51mm offset forks.
Does the 51mm offset fork compromises the frame's safety or does it add some risk to the frame?
I have read the differences between a 51mm fork vs 46 mm fork and I know the effect the 5mm difference over the bike's trail and bike's handling, but I don't know if it is safe to mount a 51mm offset fork in a frame apparently designed for a 46 mm offset fork.

29er / Re: Best BB for Shimano 1x11 XTR in a 098 frame

I think PF is the lightest... But I would prefer BSA, less chance to get anoying noises and easier to service.

Never had any problems with my threaded BSA BB, it's the most universal of bottom brackets in that everyone makes adapters for various cranks to work with BSA.  Bearings are external so maybe mud would cause them to wear out faster but they are very easy to service or replace.

Thank you all guys for your answers and sugestions.

I'm starting my first 'building adventure' so I will be a lot here in the forum asking for help.

29er / Best BB for Shimano 1x11 XTR in a 098 frame

Hi Guys.
I will build a 098 full suspension bike, and I will mount a 1x11 XTR groupset.
What kind of BB should I pick (BSA/BB30/PF30)?
I would like the lightest possible solution.
Thanks in advance, and please forgive my bad English.
