After finishing my Seka Spear "weight weenie" build and managed to get the non RDC version under 14lbs it was time for something new. The Spear will be my perma bike for italy. So for Flat florida I am going to build up the Exaero with Xplr.
Picked up a size 52 Exaero today from the Miami dealer.
I went with the 52 because a Retül sizing showed my Seka Spear (M, 100mm THM stem at -6°) has me a bit stretched out. I could have just dropped to a 90mm stem, but I also wanted to try a slightly smaller frame.
First impressions: the frame is very well built and finished. I picked the Seka over something like the Tavelo Arden because I could get it right now, and because I wanted two bikes from the same brand. That said, I fully agree that at this price it's getting harder and harder to recommend Seka. The Arden SL is going to be a pretty interesting frame as well, but alas here we are.
On bars, I think the Gladius Alta looks better than the Tavelo Rise. I'm going to run the THM 100mm no-rise bar first and then decide whether I want the Gladius Alta (also no stock anywhere).
Real-world weights for a size 52 attached
For the build, Im going to switch from trying the XX / 10-52 as i fear chainline issues, and just do XPLR.
Crank: Magene TEO 165mm, 1x with 50T PASS QUEST chainring
Rear derailleur: SRAM Force XPLR 12
Cassette: 10-56 RED XPLR
Chain: AXS Force
Levers / brakes: SRAM Red E1
Wheels: DFS Aero Max 50mm
Tires: ENVE SES 29
Bars: THM Frontale Aero 100x380
Saddle: Berk monocoque, 144 width (coming from a Berk Lupina short in 150)
Pedals: Xpedo Ti
It won't be as light as my Spear, but it should 1) fit me a bit better and 2) be a bit more aero for flat Florida.
