Honestly that range+number of gears is basically what I have with 11 speed right now. I'm running 52-36 with an 11-32 cassette. I could definitely see some wider ranges being more popular, but it's basically on par with 11 speed in terms of useable gears.
The weird thing to me is that they went with 11t and putting more cogs inboard of the freehub. It makes me think you would need to shift the chainring inwards to have a more consistent chainline.
Also on the website it says to use 14 speed you need to use a udh dropout. I would think that would only be true if they were doing the 10t overhang method.
It seems like they maybe changed plans and haven't updated the website to reflect that.
