Tybiker, I'm looking for info on running the rear derailleur and rear brake lines.  Are there sleeves?  Any difficulties?  Do they rattle?

Sleeves? Do you mean internal guide sleeves? There aren't any of those, but there are plastic removable caps where the routing goes, which makes it easier to find the loose end when pushing through the frame. Mine have never rattled.

Yes, guide sleeves.
My 197 is in transit.

How did you get the brake and cable lines through the holes in the frame?
Is there access on the underside of the BB?

There isn't access, but there is a lot of room on the inside of the frame near the bottom bracket. I just used a small metal hook and helped it through with the bottom bracket uninstalled. Takes a minute, but it's really not that bad. I started from the bottom of the chainstay and worked up towards the head tube.

Cool.
How long did shipping take once it got to the shipper?

Once it shipped it took about 5-7 business days to arrive.

Thanks for the information !
Think I'll give the gravel bike frame from CS a try. Is it also worth getting them painted by CS ?

I've gotten two frames painted by CS. I like how they look with the paint. They can do a simple, single color paint or more complicated. But the complexity and the masking required can raise the cost more. I think of the paint as an extra layer of scratch/ding protection. If it's just in the paint, it's not affecting the structure carbon composite layers.

29+ & 27+ / Re: CS-496 Build / 27.5+
« on: January 24, 2017, 12:46:33 PM »
Hello
I have been following this forum for a while, and I am ready to order my own 496, so I can share and swap wheels back and forth with my full suspension 29/27.5+ depending on the kind of riding.
Now, i am confused, the Peter everybody says is so good, is he at carbonspeedbikes or at xmcarbonspeed?  Or both?
And the other question is about the bottom bracket, many say that they had to go with the press fit, but I see carbonspeedbikes and somebody in aliexpress offer the option for different ones (but not xmcarbonspeed) .  I would try to go with the threaded BSA 73
Thanks,
Ale

Peter is the same for both websites. Carbonspeedbikes.com is the new website where you can order directly. xmcarbonspeed.com doesn't have that capability.

Looks like the BB option is the BB92 press fit option.

Peter is on Holiday until February 10, but will still probably reply to emails. Just nothing will ship until after the Chinese New Year.

Does the fat bike ride on snow compare to something like mild mud, or sand, or... ?

I tried to ride on the snow with 2.25 tires recently and it is much harder to fight the snow than anything else.
It is like if I was braking while pedalling.

Never ridden on sand with it, nor mild mud. But I can see mud being hard since there is a ton of tire surface to stick to and make your bike weight twice as much as normal.

Riding through a bunch of unpacked snow is hard. There is enough snow and people with fatbikes, that we have a group that maintains the trail and packs it when fresh snow comes. Once packed down, it freezes and sets up awesome. Once the base of the trail is good, even if it snows a couple of inches of fresh, you can still ride it due to the solid base.

With as much trail maintenance that we do on our trail we require minimum of 3.5" tires, otherwise there is a large risk of putting a deep rut in the groomed trail and takes a lot of work to fix. My 4.8" tires I can run at about 4psi. The first ride it felt a little weird because you can feel the tire flex/move on the corners, but I had ton of grip uphill and down.

The groomed snowmobile roads are great too. Gives me a ton of trails to go ride base hours for 2-3 hours.

What about the wheels. Says it comes with carbon wheels, anyone ever run carbon fat wheels?

I'm riding with Peter's Carbon Speed, Fatclub 80mm wheels. I love em! http://www.carbonspeedbikes.com/shop/fatbike/fatclub80/

Carbon Speed fat bike. I've been enjoying the snow trails all winter! So much better than an indoor trainer!

I've got a 19.5" built and have ridden it many times. I love this frame and geometry. I also have a matching pair of the Fatclub 80mm wheelset that Peter offers. Let me know if you have any specific questions regarding the build and/or frame.

I built mine with a Race Face Aeffect cinch fat bike crank, spec'd for 190mm rear axle spacing. I'd recommend getting something that is meant for the 190mm rear axle so that the chain line is correct for the rear cassette. I'm running a 1x11 setup, Shimano Deore shifters with a 28T up front on the Raceface crank. Maybe there is a crankset that allows the chainring to come closer to the crankarms and have a narrower Q factor??? Not sure on that...

The pictures I snapped aren't the greatest from a photography point of view, but I hope they help depict the build clearances. I'm running a Surly Bud/Lou combo 4.8" with the rear wheel in the front dropout. As you can see there is a lot of clearance between the chain and the tire still, when the chain is in the largest ring in the cassette. I tried to take a picture of the chainline. With the chain in the middle of the cassette in the rear.

As a side note, I originally had the rear wheel in the rear dropout position and had a ton of clearance with the 4.8 Bud/Lou tires. So it should fit the Snowshoe XXL 5" tires great.

And the picture that Peter sent a link to is my bike!  :)
