Cerps is correct, if the seat tube angle is steeper then the Reach will be longer to get the same ETT - if the head tube angle is slacker then even more so.  A lot of people that "size down" end up feeling cramped on the newer geo bikes if they spend a lot of time in the saddle - which a lot of us do.

Also, you will be more over the BB than behind it with the steeper STA, which is good for steep climbing, but can take some getting used to on flats/rolling for some people.

Any good deals out there for a non-boost 29er HT frame?

Really the biggest issue I see using an MTB frame as the base for a gravel bike is the limited front chainring size if you try to keep the recommended chain line.

Maybe going 2x solves this?

....

Edit: after few longer rides I gotta change my opinion on the saddle. The padding on longer rides starts to hurt and rubs te contact points which causes pain :/

That's what I found with the ryet aircode as well.

Now I'm looking for something more like the Specialized Romin Mirror in 140mm-143mm width.

I am still struggling with this. I would love to get your help in putting together a clear set of dimensions for future buyers to learn from our toils!

My rear bushing space is 14mm, my front is 20mm. The bolts are a hair under 8mm. Now to sort out which dimension of bushing and black spacers to buy.

My Fox DPS has the following dimensions for both eyelets:

The frame mfr can't give you the exact specs?  Kinda sounds like you need an 8mmx14mm Fox bushing kit and an 8mmx20mm kit.

I've had these Arundel replicas (no logo) for over four years and still holding great without marring bottles.

Ditto, been using these arundel clones for close to a decade.  They hold the bottles REALLY well and have been 100% reliable.

On the clones make sure you get the ones that have the ridge on the foot that the bottle sits on - it increase the strength tremendously.

Do you think the FM909 is better or worse in that regard ?

I'd guess about the same, I don't have an FM909, but do ride a new rev Signal Peak with similar suspension layout.  The SP is a 115mm true 4 bar though, so the 909 should actually pedal a touch better in open mode - not enough that I would notice probably.  Most of the newer FS XC oriented bikes have a lot of anti squat in their suspension design.

For me they're all about the same, except the opposing mini-link (dw-link style) bikes.  I like the mini-link suspension better for technical climbing, but they have been high maintenance - at least in my experiences.

Like I said above, people that prefer lockouts on their bikes will want one on the FM936 as well - Carbonda has not figured out how to defy the laws of physics yet.

That said, it's a very efficient pedaler for those with a smooth pedal stroke.

People that need lockouts will need a lockout on any FS bike, whether it's manual, auto (brain), or electronic.

Some people feel it helps out of the saddle or climbing, some don't

I've never had a problem with holeshots in a race or long sustained climbs in a race and I always leave my shocks in full open, YMMV.

Small chainring max was the deal breaker for me on most of the "MTB" frames I was looking at for more of a monster gravel build with 1x.

Ended up just going with a fezarri shafer when they released with updated geo.

Ok i saw.
Reach and HA are the same as the basic 100/100mm version but with 120/120 setup and bike raised by 1cm.

It's clearly a pretty different bike with the new link!

A lot of us were running 100/120 and it is a bit different bike at 120/120 now with the new link.  Should be VERY similar geo to 100/100, just more suspension and a higher BB.

Hello did you check how geometry has changed with the new link?
I would like to know what is the effect on bb height, reach and head angle.

Arno posted the geo chart from Carbonda at the end of this thread:  https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3986.0.html

No BB height, but I'd assume a few mm higher than the 100mm 936 since the new link is just pushing the rear end a bit further down.  Of course if you run more sag with the new link it will probably be very similar.

The new linkage extends the rear wheel at top-out.  So BB raises a bit and the clearance between seat stay bridge and seat tube increases compared to the typical linkage.

Raising the BB on the 936 a bit would be a good thing, it is really low IMO.

Any idea what the HTA will be with the new linkage?  I assume it will be a bit steeper, maybe 67-68ish with a 120mm fork?

Thanks

also, the shock was a super tight fit at the trunnion mount, is that normal.  I really had to push to get the shock between the trunnion bearings.

Make sure the trunnion bearing spacers are oriented correctly and fully seated.
