29+ & 27+ / Re: Through Axle Nut for a cs496
« on: October 10, 2018, 06:49:01 PM »
Peter sent me a couple of of the through axle nuts for the cs496, and I found out that this skewer works for the application:

DT Swiss RWS Rear Skewer: Boost 12 x 148mm, Flat Washer, 12 x 1.5mm Thread, 177mm Length.

I'm back in business :).

Best,
Chris

Hey folks-

Has anyone heard from Peter at XMCarbon Speed lately? Been trying to get in touch with him to source a couple of spare parts, and haven't been able to get him...

Best,
c

Anyone know where I can find one of these? Sent Peter a note a moment ago, but would like to see if they can be sourced in the US.

BTW, keep your eye on these; I had one fall off while riding within 3-4 miles of having tightened it. Pic here:

Thanks.

« on: May 13, 2018, 05:31:11 PM »

The bushing kits I used on the M06 I just built for my wife were these:

Fox 5-Piece Aluminum Mounting Hardware Kit for IGUS Bushing Shocks 8mm x 0.874" / 22.1mm (803-03-166)

I used a slightly larger one for the rear mount, but had to cut it down; two of the 8mm x 0.874/22.1mm would have worked.

Bike looks great, wife will go for first ride in the next day or so.

Another reader here needing this measurement. Looks like it might be 22.2 based on a M06 build thread earlier on the forum, but would like to know before ordering.

Thanks!

Shimano XTR BB94, which inexplicibly a BB92 BB. FWIW, after a few hundred miles on the bike, I like it. Simple, light, and so far, quiet.

It is to align with the boost spacing in the rear. I can't remember the dimension differences between boost and non boost crank, but I wouldn't count on a mismatched drivetrain working well without it unless someone markets a specific solution for adapting a non boost crank to a boost application. I'm not tuned in well enough to know off hand.

I don't think you'd run into interference with a big chainring. I run the 30t because I'm a wimp, not because of fitment.

By way of update, I PR'd most segments on Porcupine Rim in Moab this weekend and it did great. I'm ~230# with a pack, wheels are true, couldn't be happier.

Sorry for the delay, I'm not getting email updates. I ended up with Shimano chainring, misordered the raceface piece (doesn't fit.)

Don't know on the Mattoc; if it works on a Stache it'll work on this frame.

Bike is together and fully shaken out. CS496 frame, Peter's 40mm rims with DTS350 hubs. Went with Renthal Fatbar Lite, Fox 34 140mm 27plus fork, Fox transfer dropper, XT brakes and drivetrain. Bike weighs 24 lbs on the nose sans pedals. That's with 29x3" (VeeTrax Fatties) tires, each weighing ~1.7 lbs. Been through the local trails, and flogged it at the Deer Valley lift-served trails on Sunday. That wasn't just big flowy stuff, it was also some of the burliest, technical, rocky, rooty descents I've ever done.

Bike is performing *flawlessly* so far. I would absolutely do this again, and would go straight back to Peter. Can't recommend it enough.

Wheels just arrived, they look great. Very well packed, beautifully finished, can't believe these arrive in a week from mainland China.
