Looking forward to seeing the build up and hearing your thoughts on the ride. Need more 29 plus around here, I think it's a great compromise between 29er and fat bikes and I look for it to become a much more popular platform. We'll see, I guess.
Also, Muffin Top is a great name, we should include more nicknames in titles around here would make it easier to navigate and remember various threads/builds. All the numbers get confusing.

« on: January 17, 2016, 08:33:47 AM »Now you start talking about a 3000 dollar S Works frame and okay, I'm sure there are serious improvements to be had with the S Works. We all know that, It's just not worth the extra thousand or two bucks!
I would say marginal improvements. I bet if if you rode the SW Stumpy and then rode the 062 copy frame you wouldn't be able to tell the difference and the 062 is just as dependable and reliable. The differences will be apparent on the finish, the precision of the openings on the frame, etc. Oh and the SW Stumpy frame will run you about $3000. So about $2500 more than the 062.

Sweet ass build! This will be good that we get a direct comparison between the 256 and 041.. seems initial impressions favor the 041. Interested to hear your thoughts comparing the two as you get more trail time with the new beast

That's awesome you found such a solid solution to the fork clearance issue. Something like that probably would've scared me from doing the build, but it was no big deal, really. Looking forward to hearing if it's functioning well, and other ride impressions, and also total bike weight.

Most threads around here require patience! Lol. Someone starts a build thread and we sometimes don't see it finished for months. I actually like that dynamic of this forum, I tend to get invested in everyone's builds this way, it seems.
Another positive of this is we'll have a direct comparison between the 256 and 041. Now we just have to wait for you to break the 041 frame, and then we'll also have cross sectioned frames to compare

ok, thanks for the reply. I've long considered the R1s and didn't realize thru axles improved the spacing issue. Seriously good job on the build - 8.4 kg is awesome

Yeah, if they have your size in stock I'd probably pull the trigger with them rather than waiting the extra month. Although, I do feel a bit more reassured ordering from Peter, I wouldn't want to wait a month and most likely there will be no issues with TanTan Sports.

Definitely not. Probably one of the most asked questions, and kinda tough to answer sometimes, but in your case since you said you might want to get into some light downhill riding I think I'd go with the 27.5.
The question is if there;s a chiner frame with as much travel as your looking for? If I'm not mistaken, I think most of the chiner frames have about 100mm of travel. I'm not the most well versed in that so I could be wrong, but thought it was worth pointing out.

Hey Zipper, can I ask how much the frame cost you? I've been around the Chiner scene for a few years and looked at lots of pics, and C_D is right.. that frame looks rough. I'd probably try to get a replacement sent out by Flyxii. If they don't agree, then we need to make a sticky thread or a banner ad (Sitar_Ned?) warning people to not purchase from Flyxii. That's unacceptable. Unless, of course you got it for a couple hundred bucks.. then it would MAYBE be acceptable.
That said.. You can probably ride the hell out of it and those cosmetic blemishes will never matter. I guess it's all about the price you paid and what's important to you.
