Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Flyxii FE-02 Build
« on: April 11, 2024, 04:04:51 PM »
I just got my frame a couple days. Waiting for some parts to start the build. I was wondering if anyone has run full cable housing to the rear derailleur instead of using the tubing and cable stops provided? How's the shifting with the tubing the way it's provided?

I pulled the trigger on the FE-02. Should be here in 2 weeks. I'll post up some pics when it gets here. This'll be my first full carbon bike. I'm going to put a dropper and some 29x2 tires on it.

Thanks for the review guys. I'll post pictures if I order it. I'm still trying to decide between fe-02 and fe-03.

Hey guys. I saw this frame is on sale at AliExpress for pretty cheap. I was wondering if anyone could give a long-term review of it? Also, has anyone tried putting 29x2 tires on it? I read in another forum there was a lot of toe overlap with front tire. TIA

Hi all,

I wanted to share my story on the Airwolf Stumpjumper clone.

https://airwolfcarbonbike.com/product/yfm018-2022-am-carbon-mtb-frame-29-full-suspension-frames-stumpjumper-boost-148mm-enduro-rear-travel142mm-racing-mountain-bike-frameset/

I ordered my frame back in via Airwolf in May. I ordered the Specialized OEM parts: chainstay guard, shock top bolt, flip chip and the down tube protector.

When receiving the frame The down tube protector was wasted as the holes for mounting is was not drilled and the top bolt needed 4-5 mm removed to fit. Rest fitted in - flip chip needed some brute force to fit (I did not resort to removing material from chip or shock fork).

Second check was to check bearings and bolts. As already elaborated by others the tolerancesn bolts is in the bin. Bearings is fitted on axles with locktite as there is almost 0,2mm play on all bolts. Bearings is just poor quality - all bolts and bearings was binned and OEM bolt and bearing set was bought.

Further more the the seatclamp was replaced with a bolt-type as the one delivered with the frame is crap.
I put two rides on the bike - 1 XC ride and one where the frame was stressed a little - a couple of 1 m step downs at speed and railing some berms at high speeds and 5-6 small jumps 2-3 meters with ok landings.
The result was that after 3,5 hrs of riding the front Cracked. The crack started at the main pivot on the drive side extending 30mm upwards.

I reach out to Airwolf and I was promised a replacement, but I have zero confidence I the frame, so I will probably get rid of it once the replacement part arrive.

Post thoughts: The rear axel, derailleur hanger and headset should also have be replaced as the stuff is junk/ questionable quality.

If you are looking for a Chinese carbon frame I would recommend that you buy a frame from a company with in-house design-capability with actual knowledge about engineering and matrix design. These “look alike” frames is not worth the materials they are made from and will not stand to be used as the original design intended.
If you are looking for a curb-cruiser they will probably be just fine.

I am planning to cut the cracked fron and have a look at how the junker was built.

If you have questions feel free to PM me.

Send it to Hambini in the UK. He'll give it a good look over and an honest opinion everyone can see if he posts it to youtube.

The V2 of the Boost frame is out !!!!

Now compatible UDH (which mean also compatible with Shimano direct mount as the adapter from UDH to Direct mount already exist  ;) )

And they have also change the way the rear break is mounted, now it's a one piece molded block.

Regarding the geometry, they have also greatly improved and modernized.
Going from 66 to 64.5 for the HA and 74 to 76 for the seat

The old geometry is visible below:

I'm already thinking if next year I will not change my current one for the new one  ;D

For those interested by this frame, go to the official store to get the latest version  8)

Damn, this new updated geometry pretty much addresses all the complaints I had with the old frame. Looks like I'm going to order a new frame. For as much as I ride and my skill level this frame is perfect. The old frame rides really well. I can only imagine what this will be like.

What travel fork? i measured the head tube angle to be slacker than advertised

I put a 160mm travel Rockshox Zeb Select on it. I have no idea how to measure the head angle accurately.

I watched your video of the Himalo you built, BTW. Thanks for posting the video. It helped me make the decision to buy the frame.

Does your rear triangle have any creaking?

I pulled the trigger on the Himalo frame a couple months ago out of necessity. I was planning on getting a full suspension carbon frame this summer when I had more cash but my aluminum hardtail developed a crack and I needed a new frame fast. Overall for the price of the Himalo frame and the performance after getting all the suspension settings dialed in (or almost dialed in), I'm happy with it. I was able to transfer most of my parts over except for the shock, which I didn't have. This was my first full suspension build and also my first Chinese frame. A lot of firsts with this build but I'll stick to the stuff that's relevant to the frame.

The frame came half assembled and folded into a small box. When I took out the frame I checked the bearings and first thing I noticed was more than a few bearings felt notchy and not smooth at all. I took a part the frame and greased and torqued the bolts. When I tightened the lower shock bolt it snapped off way before I was even close to a torque setting. I got some steel bolts from the hardware store. See photos below.

The shock I used was a DVO Jade coil shock. Based on several coil spring calculators I should be using a coil that is 600lbs plus. Yeah, I'm a big dude and the leverage ratio of this frame is very linear, because a 600lb spring rode terribly. I did some research, and everything I read or watched gave me the idea that I should try a progressive rate spring. I found a used one because I really didn't want to put much more money into this build. I installed the spring and that really changed the entire character of the bike. The bike sits higher in the travel, climbs, and descends much better now. So if anyone is thinking about a coil shock with this frame, I highly recommend a progressive rate spring.

Another issue I had was lining up the rear triangle when I bolted everything together. There seems to be a something a few millimeters off back there but when it's all bolted up and riding it you don't noticed it. I'm sure it will probably wear out the bearing faster but at this price you can't complain too much. My frame is already creaking but it could be my shock bushings not sure yet. I'm going to order new ones and then I'll be able to know for sure where the creaking is from.

Those are the only issues I had with the frame. The bolt issue was known and I was expecting one or two to brake. Other than that my experience with the frame is positive and I'm happy with how it turned out. The bike is really fun to ride and I have already set lots of new PRs on my local trails.

The last thing I would comment on is the geometry of the bike. The reach is kind of short for the current trend in bikes. Also, the head angle is not as slack as other frames that are coming out with the same travel. My last frame was longer/slacker and I definitely notice it. It's taking a little getting used to but I knew the specs when I bought it, so something to be aware of. At this price you can't really complain. The bike is super fun to ride and that's all that counts.

Yeah I get the risk involved but I like to take calculated risks.  8) I did some more digging and found this seller on Alibaba.

https://szzsbike.en.alibaba.com/?spm=a2700.shop_plgr.88.14

They have a link for the CMF36 in a drop down menu under the frames they offer but nothing comes up when you click on it. They also have these 2 frames which are on the Tantan website but of course with different model numbers.

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/High-Quality-Disc-brake-Full-Suspension_1600511401707.html?spm=a2700.shop_plgr.41413.14.1b114f17cKzvvF

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2022-OEM-carbon-fiber-frame-Carbon_1600511423652.html?spm=a2700.shop_plgr.41413.17.39f34f17oQYiIg

I'm sure there are other frames on there that are on Tantan's page as well, but I only glanced through the suspension frames. I'm waiting to here back from Carbonda about the cost of the frame with shipping. I'll decide after that.

Hey guys, I've been lurking on here for a while and appreciate all the info people share about their builds. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my first Chinese carbon bike with help from the info gathered on here. I'm close to ordering an FM1001 but I found this on Aliexpress.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004666068312.html?gatewayAdapt=4itemAdapt

CMF36 from the Ridelove store and a Google search doesn't bring any answers for me. I was wondering if anyone who has better knowledge of the Chinese carbon bike world would have better luck at digging up some info about who makes it, and if it would be a good purchase? Thanks in advance!

Hey guys how's it going? I just found a crack in my current frame and need a cheap replacement for the time being. What do people think of how the frame rides so far? What are the differences in the seat stays that has been discussed? Can you post some photos please? Post the link of which vendor you guys are using? I'm thinking of doing a mullet setup with this frame. Thanks in advance
