29er / Chiner Videos
« on: July 05, 2014, 10:34:51 PM »
Well, It's a pretty long standing tradition in the MTB world that we all love to post and look at bike pics, but you don't really see too many videos. Now that we all have video recorders in our pockets.. it'd be cool to see that change.

You don't even have to really talk in the video, it's just cooler to see the a sweet bike in a vid than a pic imo. Maybe it's just me, who knows.

Anyways, I thought I'd start the thread. I gathered two already posted on this forum (hope you guys don't mind) and found a couple more on YT and will post a vid of mine when it's built and worthy. So take a quick clip of your chiner and post it up!

29er / Re: "BM-01" Frame info?

Why take the risk of buying from a vendor you know nothing about?  You could end up getting a frame that is not first quality and you will have wasted your money.

I'd recommend talking with Peter at XMIplay.com and seeing what he will sell an IP-033 for including shipping and paypal fees.  I'm sure the cost will be higher but you will get a good quality frame from a seller who supports this board and has proven in the past that if there is a problem with the product, they will make the effort to correct the issue.

At the same time, you can also order other components you need like carbon wheels, seat post, bars, bottle cage, etc.

Agree for the most part, ordering from unknown chiner sellers isn't exactly confidence inspiring, and if the difference was only $100 then I say go with Iplay. On the other hand, $296 is probably one of the better prices I've seen for a chiner frame and may be worth a gamble for that price.

Hey rob1035, let me know if you find out how much shipping is. If I can get the frame for the $350 shipped. SOLD! But if I end up getting a frame that is not up to par, I will accept the loss. I do think it is a bit of a gamble. Just one I'd probably be willing to take.

Carbon_Dude has a good point about if you plan on ordering other components then it makes sense to buy from a different supplier. If not - I say go for this frame. Absolutely can't beat the price.

What bottom brackets are y'all using with your respective cranks?

Just get the BB30 frame and use the beer components EBB http://beercomponents.com/?page_id=588

That's what I was going to before deciding to go witha 1x10 set-up. I've read lots of good things about the beer components and have seen a few guys use it successfully on a chiner frame.

As far as the hubs I was going to go with good old Hope Pro 2 Evo SS.

Where are you at in the build? Planning stage? Wishing stage? Almost finished stage?

Wait until someone else confirms it, Peter, but I'm pretty sure these will work fine on the Fat Chiner:

We will still have IP-057 frame available all the time in future

Well, there you have it folks. The 057 will  be around for quite a while it sounds like.

Man, that is an absolute top of the line, pretty much perfect build there. Well worth the asking price, imo.

Pics? Mind if I ask why you're selling it? When the build was finished? Approximately how many miles?

Hello again,
My angle on the phone thing is a must see:

Lol. Every forum needs at least one wild card member, I suppose. Never know what you're going to post, Inertia.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: XT brakes and XTR

merlincycles is def a good place to get a set of XTs.

Have you ever had XTR brakes before, brmeyer? Just curious what makes them worth the extra cash? Is it just the saved weight or do you get a different feel/modulation from them. Would LOVE to have some for the bling factor alone but unfortunately I have to be a bit more utilitarian in my choices.

Hi everyone! Here is my 106:

Very nice set-up? If I may ask what you did with the carbon rigid fork?

What? We can't ride over molten steel with the 256!
That is a clear advantage for the 057.

Agreed. Zombie apocalypse is just around the corner. 057 with Chinese carbon pistol mount for my Glock 9mm for me please! (that actually would be pretty cool lol)

May be we can give Honsen the benefit of the doubt.
Until we see what kind of frame I get.
So far, everything looks to go well.
Ok, the moment of truth will come after my first big jump, ending on a sharp corner.

T1000 and T800 is just the stiffness of the carbon fiber.
The fiber/resin fraction, and how the sheets are layered in the various parts of the frames are more important.

My choice may look odd today. But end of May, I was turned off by Peter when he told me there was nobody building wheels with Lefty's hubs in... China.
This didn't give me a trusty image as I just saw a couple of hours later that light-bicycle was building them.

Then from the posts on mtbr at that time, the leading time for the IP-256 was quite worrying.
They did not even reply to the people who ordered them anymore.
So I tried Honsen as Leo was responsive and very competent too.

Your choice doesn't look odd at all. Especially concerning the wheels. The fact that Light-Bicycle can provide the hubs you want without having to ship them to them is a huge bonus.

As for the frame, I too remember when lead times were either too long or really just unknown. I suspect Iplay was encountering some serious growing pains at the time, and I'm sure they learned a thing or two bc of it. If I was them I would just post in the vendor section of chinertown and keep everyone updated all at once. Make a thread called IP-256 status and updates or something like that.

Doesn't really matter who produces the frames, that's the whole point of buying direct. All we care about is price, quality, and customer service. Quality is the same. Price is the same. All that was left was customer service.. and all things considered. Your choice makes sense to me. It is a bit of a turn off for me if Honsen is advertising T1000 and it's only T800, just as it was a turn off to you when you felt mislead.

And yeah, those wheels are bad ass.

So true about the obsolete mp3 players. I literally probably have about 7 or 8 random ipods and other mp3 players just sitting around doing nada.

I vote Android. Hardware (screen size) is just so much better. Apple OS is very sleek and refined though, and there total biosphere is just as refined. Simple and beautiful to use.. But come on.. thos big screens just make the Iphone look like a toy.

Interesting post, Inertia. Not sure how much I can add to the conversation but I looked it up and 28 DT Swiss Champion spokes (which are commonly used) would weigh 192.5 grams, or 0.42 pounds.

As for carbon failure rates.. Pretty difficult to say really. I will say that most of the carbon failures seem to be smaller pieces like the bars attached to many carbon saddles. Not sure it works well for the smaller bits like that. That said, I am no expert and have seen no definitive proof either way.
