Component Deals & Selection / Narrow saddles
« on: August 22, 2024, 03:51:19 AM »
Can anyone recommend a good narrow width (130-135mm) saddle from AliExpress?

I'm currently running a Selle Italia SLR Boost (size S1), but am looking for something with a bit more padding. Weight and material are not important, only shape and comfort :)

This frame has Cannondale-style "kingpin" rear suspension. However, from what I understand, that suspension only works because because it's paired with thin flexy chainstays.

However, the G1055-D seems to have beefy chainstays, that don't seem flexy at all. What are your thoughts on this type of suspension? Is it going to work, or is it just a gimmick?

Sweet! But...Tried to buy one yesterday. 48cm and 50cm both out of stock. MOQ is 30 sets, so they couldn't give me a timeline. They were also out of the handlebar I wanted for the build (380x90 but have 380x100 and 400x90). And now, because of your post, I'm even more depressed :'(

Maybe consider their other frames? I wouldn't order this frame unless you're absolutely sure the long reach is what you need (meaning: get a bike fit first). I built one up for a friend, and while it's a great frame, there is no way it can fit my body. There is no such thing as a geometry that fits all riders, so measure twice, or you'll have to buy twice :D

Regarding the MOQ: I don't think there's a MOQ for this frame (I bought a single frameset), but they probably mean they can't spin up a production run just for a single frame, so you're waiting for one of their OEM clients to order a new batch of frames first.

Regarding the press-fit BB: Park Tool makes a really expensive and hard-to-get reaming tool for BB86. It's one of the few tools I can't justify buying myself, but if I ever buy a frame with BB86 (which unfortunately is most Light Bicycle and Yishun frames), I'd definitely take it to a bike shop that has that tool. Same goes for facing the disc brake mounts.

Ridley has sold open mould frames before (see Ridley Kanzo Adventure, the previous version) but their main models are own designs.

Component Deals & Selection / Tubeless road/gravel tyres
« on: September 09, 2023, 02:55:05 AM »
Any recommendations on road/gravel tubeless tyres around 36mm, without too much profile, that aren't leaky af?

I'm currently running Challenge Strada Biancha tyres. I was happy with them at first (very comfortable) but the sidewalls are so leaky that they pretty much lose all air within 48h. I was hoping this would improve over time (with sealant), but even after several months of use, I can still see sealant coming out of the sidewalls. I've had similar issues with other tubeless tyres, so I'm considering ditching tubeless unless I can find a tyre that actually holds its pressure for more than a few days.

Maintenance, Mechanics, & Tools / Re: Painting over UD matte finish

I've taken UD matte framesets into a professional paint shop, and asked about the work required to get it ready-to-paint. They said a light sanding is enough.

So... Has anyone ordered the LCR017-D frame yet? I was taking a second look at their geometry chart and it seems like a mess. I am no bike expert, but size 49 frame should not have longer wheelbase than size 54, right?

Small sizes have a slacker head tube angle, to avoid toe overlap. By lowering the head tube angle, the front wheel moves forward a bit more, which also results in a slightly longer wheel base.

In my opinion, small sizes should be designed around 650B wheels, not 700C. I believe Canyon does this for some of their women's sizes, but I don't know of many others.

https://www.yishunbike.com/product/hb058/

Thanks, but I was hoping you could double-check that  :D I suspect this HB058 is identical to what some other brands are selling, but the reach numbers vary. On the drawing, Carbonda specifies 75mm reach, but that seems to be measured center-to-edge, not center-to-center.

Also, the 50mm clamping area is barely enough for a stem, so that wouldn't leave any clamping room for bike computers, lights, etc... Something that really annoys me on aero handlebars.

Yeah, I've also ordered from OG EVKIN before, and they always come over as quite arrogant on the chat.

They try to market themselves as a "high quality brand", but in the end, it's just another store selling open mould components, and slapping a brand on them. I avoid them if I can find another store selling the same products unbranded.

Is that the HB058 handlebar? If so, could you check the reach, and the width of the clamping area?

If they don't sell it to consumers, that means all their production capacity is currently taken up by OEM customers. If you wait a few months, the initial demands will die down, and it should open to regular customers.

I would be curious which companies Yishun produces for.

Here's one: https://prorace.be/bikes/aero/randa/

This is a common problem, and the solution is often to just put 1-2 more layers of rim tape to make the fit a bit tighter.

Maintenance, Mechanics, & Tools / Removing decals
« on: July 06, 2023, 10:07:21 AM »
Any tips on removing decals from carbon handlebars? I've bought an EC90 MTB handlebar that fits me well, but the decals look cheap, and I'd prefer an all-matte-black look.
