29er / Re: New Dangerholm inspired Scott Scale GR RC - Chinertown build?
« on: August 23, 2024, 06:49:03 AM »
We are both 184cm (6ft), so pretty tall. My road bike is a 56cm, but has a long 120mm stem. MTB is a Large Cannondale Scalpel.
The Airwolf is a Large, but I considered a medium for a long time because of the added reach of the drop bars. Eventually, I did decide to go for a Large, mainly because of the seat tube length. The medium would have A LOT of seatpost sticking out.

I then used https://bike-stats.de/en/ to determine stem length, mainly checking against my road bike fit. Settled on a 70mm stem, and looked out for the shortest reach handlebars I could find. In the end, the position is a bit longer, but higher than my road bike. Took about 5 rides to get used to.

Thanks for the advice. I’m 185cm. Probably best stick with a large. I’m uncertain about going for a drop bar or not. I might stick with narrow flat and TT bars.

Those are lovely wheels. What rim is it?

My brother and I did something similar. Mine is the pinkish one with drop bars, his is the white one with flat bars.
Not the greatest picture, but it's the only one I have of my brother's flat bar one. It was taken at the end of a 200km MTB/gravel race that turned out to be a mudfest.

We used the Airwolf YFM026 with the Airwolf fork. The Airwolf fork actually has a 480mm A-C length, which steepens the HTA a bit more, and also steepens the STA a small amount. The steep HTA is fine for gravel riding/racing (and beachracing), and we both run the saddle all the way forward on the rails with a zero setback seatpost.

Regarding the chainring size. The white bike has a 42-tooth ring on a standard boost crankset. It's the biggest you can fit without altering the chainline.

These look great. Can I ask about sizing please, What size is frame vs what youd normally run on a MTB?

I run a L Carbon FM936, and a 58cm Cervelo Aspero. I want to build a gravel Scott scale, but don’t know if I should go XL or l. The Scale XL has the same reach as the FM936. The L is 3cm shorter.

I'm also curious if the gravel derailure with the clutch works with the 2x at the front.

I’m 185 with 185 wingspan on a large with 60mm almost slammed is perfect. 170mm cranks too.

...and constant pedal strikes on every tech climb  ;)
I honestly don't think the FM936 is functional with a 100mm, I get pedal strike with 120mm and 2.4" tires. I don't understand how anyone can ride it on rocks and that kind of terrain, without damaging cranks.

If you search in this forum 'Fox DPS' '42.5' , '45' you'll see the answers. I run a giant anthem fox 42.5 dps and the tune is perfect.

General question, would someone be able to make a short video of the left right frame flex when standing/moving on one pedal? just trying to see if mine if normal. Thanks!

29er / Re: Remote lockout needed?
« on: March 25, 2022, 07:21:52 AM »
Do I need a remote lockout?

Having read the Vitus Rapide Fs review, a stickered up FM936, on Off.Road.CC and the reviewer who I know to be a good MTB racer did comment on how active the suspension was when pedalling even with higher pressure, which I guess is why I'm deliberating so much!
I have the giant anthem fox float dps with 3 pos lockout, not remote.

I'm 70kg and I don't feel all that much bobbing out of the saddle. Even less in the trail mode. different shocks will of course react differently. I don't feel the need to reach for the trail or lockout mode except for fire road climbs or road sections.

Hi there. What color code is this? I'm thinking of something like this color, maybe RAL5000 "violet blue" with glitter. I like this look and couldn't find what code this or zilcho's color codes are. May be ordering a FM 909 or 936. Thanks for any help
I just sent them a picture of Zilcho's frame and they did it exactly the same! :) still love the colour and the pain quality is great.

Whew!!! All 131 pages thoroughly read! The 936 has been high on my list of potential frames, but the hardware quality has been a bit of a booger, IMO. I did some digging into the other brands using the frame and came across this on the Vitus page: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0365/1272/7173/files/RapideFS_Metric_Spare_Parts_Kit_External.pdf?v=1630512037 It's a superb breakdown of all the pivots, hardware, bearings, everything in the 936 frames! Hopefully, it will be of use to those of us in need of replacement hardware.

Thanks for this, has anyone found where to buy replacements though?  Do I have to contact Vitus?

I've never ridden a bike so comfortable and efficient in downhills, it's really amazing.  It also climbs very well, the position is super natural when I thought I was a bit lost with the huge reach coupled with a 60mm stem.

For the photos I think I have found a good compromise between size and quality, I'll keep the same settings  ;)
What bars are you running? :)

I won't buy a frame that doesn't have BSA / T47.  Threaded is the only way to go.

From an engineering POV, a properly toleranced bb92/bb86 is better because it allows for a wider BB area. The issue is most manufacturers have POS QA and that causes excessive bb wear/creaking. My Carbonda fm936 has 0 bb creaks and a well-toleranced bb bore.
